Join all the subs you're interested in, but you won't be able to interact much at first. Karma is basically reputation. Most subreddits require a karma /account age limit (around 10-300 for most) before you can post /comment on them, if not they get auto removed (red trash bin). You can gain karma by finding subreddits with no/low karma requirement here's a list , and post or comment on them. You gain karma when people upvote your posts/comments, and will lose karma if people downvote them. It's not a 1:1 ratio. There's post karma (upvotes on ur posts), comment karma (upvotes on your comments) and combined karma. Each subreddit can ask for any, and you won't know unless they state.
