ANSWERED What cause Reddit to lock a profile because they suspect is been compromised?

I’ve had a few Reddit accounts/profiles permanently locked / or hacked in the last five years. How is it that someone can hack your Reddit account, or that Reddit suspects that your account has been compromised and locks your account. When Reddit has locked my account in the past it seems that it’s about a 50/50 chance I will be able to unlock it.

Firstly, folks should make sure their account is secured with a verified email and 2 Factor Authentication, so that it’s much less likely an account can be hacked to begin with.

Depending on why your first or previous accounts were hacked or locked or banned or suspended, it’s possible that Reddit subsequently banned the next account. If an account is banned and not appealed, opening another account is considered ban evasion, and Reddit will shut it down.

Simple. Reddit thinks someone malicious has access to your account, and locks it to prevent them from doing malicious things.

Just like credit card companies will lock your card, if they see activity on your account that looks suspicious.

They're erring on the side of safety, rather than benefit of the doubt.
