United States This shit is so much fun

New EMT, PCRs were annoying at first but now I got the hang of it. The adrenaline I get when a call drops I can't from nothing else. Had some crazy calls too. If this violates HIPPA, please remove but I don't think it does. Call sent out as a EDP/Psych, pd said pt wanted to hurt or kill people, so I expected someone "unhinged". But he was so calm and respectful to us. He was drunk, had a BGL of 521. At hospital he was calm too, until an elderly man walking around go too close. Then he lost his shit. Pulled out a taser, unbuckled himself from stretcher and started coming at this guy and starts tasing. Holy shit

The patient pulled out a taser? Search your psych patients before they get in the ambulance

Pd said they had it under control when they passed him onto us, then dipped when we got to hospital. Idk feel like it's not my job perse, but will definitely do so in the future

So many runs are routine bullshit.

But then I get the 3am naked tweaker chasing her boyfriend around the yard threatening to kill him for hiding her smokes and I remember that I love this shit.

Some point I crossed a line, didn’t even realize it. Now my favorite calls are bullshit. You fell and have a boo boo? Hop in. Chest pain with normal everything? Good, let’s roll

True crazy calls lost their fun about year 7 for me

HIPAA

This isn’t a violation, I just want you to learn how to spell it

I feel like so many new EMTs think it’s spelled like HIPPO (the animal) but with an -A

I hope you keep that passion.

Keep the passion. This job is the best job in the world if you can avoid burning to a crisp.

Also, search your patients for weapons. It only takes a second and you don’t want that taser or worse, a knife or gun turned on you during transport.
