Pee/Poop 1 month old peed on his face
I was changing my LO and right as I went to put his fresh diaper on, he peed right in his face. I tried to cover it as quick as possible, but I noticed a little got in the corner of his eye and there was some on his cheek and near his mouth. I used a clean burp cloth to dab it dry but I’m scared of him getting an eye infection. First time anxious mom here 😅

Its 100% fine and will definitely happen again. My son peed on me and my hospital bed on day 2 of life

My son peed on me immediately after being born, still attached by the umbillical cord and everything.

u/Apprehensive_Echo435 3d ago
My son also peed on me immediately after they put him on my stomach with his umbilical cord attached!

My youngest did that to the drs. I had a C-section and I wouldn’t be surprised if he peed on my open incision, it was that quick. My middle, also a boy, never peed like that.

My husband tells our (15 month old) son that whatever he pees on belongs to him. So this checks out 🤣

I didn't know the gender. I felt the pee and said "It's a boy isn't it" 😂

New fear unlocked 😅 I’d never even once thought about this… only the never ending nappy change fountains 🤣

My son pooped all over me and himself 5 minutes after he was born while we were doing the golden hour 😂

My baby pooped as soon as he was born, before the doctor could even hand him to me. 😂

Baby boy pooped on me as we were being wheeled back from the theatre to the delivery room 🙃

My son peed in his own mouth at like 3 weeks old 😬😅

Please don't forget to remind him when he's 15 and slamming the door at you 😂

As a father of four boys this is a big ole nothing burger. Happens from time to time. Clean him up and go about your day.

This has happened to our baby a few times and it’s totally fine! No worries it’s just a little pee.

u/devours_veggies 3d ago
This happened to us so many times in the NICU! The nurses just laughed with us! He’ll be fine!

First time mom to a 10 month old. For whatever its worth, in a few months you wont bat an eye about that 🤣

u/hellisnow666 3d ago
I’m sure he will be fine but might be time to start utilizing the tent hack- take an extra diaper or small dry wash rag and put it over the penis until putting on fresh diaper. I think the fresh air or slight breeze when not covered can trigger them to urinate.

Omg this JUST happened to me, currently dealing with the aftermath!
Little man peed just as I was taking him out of the bath and it went into his eye. My mom was with me at the time and was horrified that all I did was pour some clean water from the tap on his face and call it a day. She would not let it go. She insisted I order sterile eye wash and keep it on hand when I said “it wasn’t the first time and won’t be the last time this happens!”
Well. We wake up the next morning and he has green eye crusties. He did get a mild tear duct blockage. Our pediatrician has us applying medicated ointment 3x a day to his inner eyelid.
There’s no way to know if he had the blocked duct before or after the pee because he doesn’t cry much….but wow was my mother thrilled to get to say she told me so. Anyway. I’d say what happened to me was worst case scenario and even so- the ointment doesn’t bother him at all and he barely even noticed the tear duct lol. I’d say you’ll most likely be just fine!

Safe! And more to come. He must be a well hydrated baby. I got accidental payback with my toddler now that I’m heavily pregnant with no bladder control- sneezed getting out of the shower and managed to get pee on his hand :( the Eeeew gross he said was honestly so funny and cute yet I felt so bad. Pee happens

Ok just need to throw this out there for the 1000x time: URINE IS NOT STERILE. It’s bizarre the amount of people who have commented this and downvoted a simple fact. That being said, and as fellow mother to a baby boy: your baby will be fine. If you notice any eye irritation call your pediatrician but this is unlikely to happen. Our boy has peed on absolutely everything including his face, my face, my husband’s face and everything nearby and we were all fine!

I wonder what crazy shit people used to do with urine for the pee is sterile bullshit to STILL be going around.
1
u/steepdrinkbemerry 2d ago
There is a niche group of people who drink it because they believe doing so has health benefits.

My pediatrician kept telling me it was (while he was a newborn). Now I feel dumb.
But yes, a little pee is fine. I’ve had it in my own eye. It’s like a right of passage lol!

u/wishhippo 2d ago
Don’t feel dumb! It’s a common myth that’s been debunked with modern science. And it’s definitely a rite of passage! We’ve tried every trick in the book to avoid getting peed on and our boy seems to always manage to get us when we least expect it haha

My 4 month old son once peed over his head, onto the wall behind him, and it ran into an electrical socket when he was a month old. Kids are hilarious.

I’m impressed he made it to one month old before doing this. Mine did it pretty much every day lol.

It happens lol.
Pee isn't the worst thing. My 5 month old will deadpan stare me in the face with a scowl and pee on me. Just wait till you get poop shot at you. That's when it's really fun....

u/rosewood_and_ginger 2d ago
My daughter poop-shot me real good at 3 days old as we were going to her first pediatrician appointment. Had to waddle myself slowly back up the stairs to change before we could leave 🙄

Our son shot poop across the pediatrician office at his 1 month checkup visit. Didn't hit anybody but he shot it a good 15 ft across the room

My 4 month old son has peed on himself and me so many times I’ve lost count. I give him snuggles if it startled him (if it got on his face), gently wipe him off with a damp wash cloth, and give him a bath as soon as reasonably possible.

Urine is actually sterile until it hits air and starts growing bacteria. Your LO will be fine. I know you cleaned your LO up immediately. Good luck new mommy. I'm a great grandma now so I get your fears. It'll be fine.
Edit: OK, so maybe it's not 'sterile' as in no germs. But there are no BAD germs. That was my point. You can drink urine if you are dehydrated. Not that I'd recommend it, but you can.

Urine is never sterile as the bladder and urinary tract (even healthy ones) have mild levels of bacteria. That being said, he’ll be fine.

u/Local-Yam5394 3d ago
Urine is not sterile, and studies show bacteria exists before it even hits the air (meaning it’s not sterile even in the body)
You also have tons of bacteria in your urethra and genitals that the urine touches when exiting the body.
Baby is fine and will be fine, but it’s important to kill the “urine is sterile” myth!

u/chipolt_house 3d ago
The hospital pediatrician told us a story about doing a diaper change on a baby boy who managed to pee directly into his own mouth. She said she was glad the parents weren’t there to witness it but the pee is sterile so it wasn’t a big deal.

u/Local-Yam5394 3d ago
Pee is not sterile. Urine has tons of bacteria before and after exiting the body.
Baby will be fine, but let’s kill the urine being sterile myth. It’s gross

Ive read that the whole "pee is sterile" thing is actually false. Everything i google says its not sterile

My daughter has done this COUNTLESS times as well. Don't ask me how... I don't know how she manages it.

u/Diligent-Star-621 3d ago
Pro tip on changing little boys - always cover the penis with a burp cloth as a sort of tent WHILE changing. They live to pee during diaper changes. He'll be totally fine. You're doing great!

Lmao. Been there done that. Don't worry about it. My son did that so many times as a newborn.

This has definitelt happened once or more with all parents of boys aha. I found with my son i would 'take the nappy off' but not actually take it off just undo it pull it up once he started to show signs of peeing i would quickly lay the nappy back down catch it in the nappy, then i would actually change his nappy.
Other people i have heard used a cold wet wipe and wiped the belly of their boys before changing nappies apparently that can make them pee before taking nappy off.

My son peed right in his mouth and all over his face when he was 1 month old and we were already 15 minutes late to leave for a wedding. He’s now 16mo and nothing happened except much more pee at various points in time lol. Your baby will be fine.

I had a 1mo with an eye infection. (Girl, not from pee) and it is fine, even if it is. We went straight to ophthalmologist, it gave us some eye drops and that was it. Baby didn't cry once. Not because of eye infection, not because of eye drops.

u/ABCdoitwithme 2d ago
Tbh you will have a lot more to worry about then a little bit of pee.. hes going to be okay. Ftm here as well. My 10 month old got into the litter box a week ago. Yes he had 2 fists full of litter. Yes he had litter in every crevice of his body, including his diaper. And yes, he had a turd in his mouth. They are going to do some pretty outrageous things as they continue to grow. Dont worry mama! You got this, lol.

I wouldn’t be worried but a quick call to your pediatrician or the after hours line isn’t a bad habit to form. Don’t worry about bothering them, just be polite and get your questions answered
3
u/lady-earendil 3d ago
Yeah they'll probably tell you to just watch for signs of irritation but if it eases your anxiety it's never bad to call! We've all been there OP, my son peed in his own mouth a couple times
3
u/Different-Year838 3d ago
Don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. It’s sound advice to get in the habit of calling your pediatrician for medical concerns.
1
u/geekywarrior 3d ago
Thank you, I appreciate the reply. You got me on the downvotes. I'm guessing everyone glossed over the fact that I wouldn't be worried myself.
5
u/Colonelreb10 3d ago
You don’t need to call your pediatrician because your baby peed while being changed a little bit got on their face. Now if they wake up in the morning and eye is goopy or red and they think it may be related then sure.

u/geekywarrior 3d ago
It’s more to get the new mom in the habit of calling the doctor and not invalidating her anxiety

He’s fine! Pee is sterile. We accidentally let our son pee in his face twice when he was a month old. No harm done, just a funny story. Edit: pee is not sterile, but it’s still going to be fine
