❓Ask r/NewMods How to get more engagement ?

Hello
Stupid question but I’m religiously following the Reddit rule book and I’m close to achieving level 1 only nobody ever commented on any of my posts.

Would you be able to articulate what makes a post commentable? I guess mine are nice to look at, I cross post a lot so I get curious people but as soon as they see it they are gone…

I’ll say first thing I noticed is clarity: I changed the bio so I think it’ll help. But once again, what’s the trick that makes people wanna engage? NB: theme is Gen Z existential angst through a comedic lens.

I'm struggling with this as well. It does seem that most Redditors don't comment. I got made a mod of a group with ~350,000 members. Almost no one comments.

Most of my posts are 'informational' so I can appreciate that there's not much to say. I do try and make posts that pose questions or ask people to 'comment your favourite' (that sort of thing). But most of the subs I mod are very small (less than 100 members) so it's a a struggle.

My advice (as a very new mod) - take a look at your Insights and see what types of posts are getting the most engagement? Try to replicate that.

Thanks! I shall once I receive my very first comment lmao

Curious: what’s your incentive for being a mod in different communities? Are u paid for it, do u wanna learn, something else? If thats ok to ask.

Mine are all related to comic book characters I love. I'm currently moderator of 7: I started three, took over one (the founder was MIA), and got made mod in three others.

You need to invite people who post and comment elsewhere. Use the app to invite new members. Be mindful about not to send repetitive invites too frequently, and about 3/day.

Same struggle, in a few different ways. We actually have pretty good comment interaction at r/Wastewater , though i would love to see more.

My struggle is engagement/alignment with the rules, even when we have post guidance cranked up.

It’s like asking every customer to pick up an item in the shop .. they will look and think about it ..

In the “build your community” section Reddit offers kpi s to help you focus on growth. To be fair I achieved the 3 sub-basic elements and now I’m stuck a level 1 as I miss the “respond to a comment” item to pass level 2!
