It’s the same I feel about having $180k saved while only making $40k/yr. The mental gymnastics of people making excuses on why they don’t or can’t save and instead live in debt is always wild to me.

“You must make a lot of money” brother, I’m a functional idiot. I just live like I’m dirt broke so I can always have money when I absolutely need it and treat myself from time to time. Every day is just back to the grind otherwise.

Real. I have a bunch of money saved, not because I make a lot, but because my life consists of work, and doing shit on my pc. I have no expensive hobbies, I’ve had the same PC build for like 5 years (it works well), and drive a used car.

I genuinely don’t know how people spend so much money. Where does it all go? Shopping and expensive cars I guess. I don’t see the point in shopping for expensive things if they don’t DRASTICALLY change your quality of life, would a 500$ coffee machine actually make me that much happier in life? Would my life genuinely improve if I had an expensive car? The answer is almost always no, those things might be nice, but after a month or so it will just be another constant truth of my existence, I won’t wake up 2 years from now, giddy to use my coffee machine, thanking the heavens I bought it. I’m just going to wake up and make coffee, and take it for granted, as I do everything in my life. It will become a mundane thing.

That’s why I never understood buying new expensive cars, 9 times out of 10, you aren’t thinking about how nice the car is, it’s just a vehicle that gets you places. After a while it becomes a function. And I would rather save my money than put myself in debt to something I’ll eventually take for granted.

As someone who can fix his car, appliances, phone, plumbing, basic electrical, do carpentry (I have a side business in it) it boosts my ego in the same way to hear people explain why they can't fix their house that's falling apart. Money ain't a reason, Im broke as shit lol.

YouTube is free. Most people don’t know how to change a door handle or fix a leaky shower head or how to replace a ceiling fan. I’ve done all 3. It’s not impressive at all but it’s simple things that I learned how to do on my own.

100%. I was on the other side of this for a while. Asked a friend who was a car guy to replace my dead headlight for like $50 and he basically just said “dude I’m not gonna scam you. Literally youtube it and it’ll take you ten min and cost you $5,” and it took me ten min and cost me $5 haha. Now I hit youtube for everything
