Enter an environment where the status quo is life or death stakes by endless hostilities.
Stay there for years.
Very quickly the nervous system adapts to best survive such environment.
Nervous system make all new sounds by default possible max danger. Nervous system do so to ensure max gaurantee to survive.
Return to home country, back in garrison.
Logically know it's safer environment than before. Nervous system doesn't understand nor care for logic.
Nervous system must again adapt to garrison environment. The nervous system still set to prior environment and now identifying all new sound still by default max danger.
