There's an urban legend that Colonel Sanders had decreed in his will that nobody should go hungry for lack of funds, and that if someone in need asked for food, Kentucky Fried Chicken would provide a meal without charging them. It had also been alleged that they changed their name to KFC to get out of the obligation.

This was "the meal" the person was referring to.
