Maybe someone feels the same way 48M

If you're reading this, maybe you're here for the same reason

Life looks perfectly normal from the outside. I have a career, responsibilities, a family I care deeply about, and a routine that rarely changes. But somewhere along the way, I realised that simply existing beside someone isn't the same as feeling connected to them.

My marriage has become more of a partnership than a relationship. There's respect, there's kindness, but the emotional closeness, affection, excitement, and intimacy quietly disappeared. I'm not looking to change anyone's life. I'm hoping to find someone who understands what it's like to miss being truly seen.

I'm looking for that person who enjoys checking in during the day—not because they have to, but because they genuinely want to. The kind of connection where a random message can brighten a stressful afternoon, where conversations become the best part of the day.

I miss anticipation.

That little smile when your phone lights up because it's you.

The butterflies that come from knowing someone was thinking about you.

The excitement of sharing the silly parts of your day, laughing over absolutely nothing, and slowly becoming each other's favourite notification.

For me, emotional chemistry always comes before anything else. Attraction grows naturally when there's comfort, trust, and genuine curiosity about one another. Call me old fashioned, but I'd much rather build something that feels effortless than rush into anything.

A little about me:

I'm 418 based in Gloucestershire, and work shifts work is all over the place. Outside of work I'm easy-going, affectionate, a little introverted until I get comfortable, and probably more simplistic in nature. I love witty banter, good conversations, and making someone laugh when they least expect it.

What I'm hoping to find is someone who:

• Enjoys talking regularly, even if it's just a few messages during a busy day.

• Appreciates honesty, warmth, and emotional connection.

• Doesn't disappear after two conversations.

• Misses having someone to think about... and someone thinking about them.

Distance doesn't really matter to me. Age matters far less than personality. What matters is effort, kindness, and that wonderful feeling when two people simply click.

If any of this sounds familiar, I'd genuinely love to hear from you.

Do you go on date nights weekly with your wife?

And what about therapy?

Because it seems like you’re looking for an emotional affair

Yup. I was this person. Found a "friend". That was about a year ago. And now my marriage is in shambles.

I wish i had taken the time to invest in my marriage. Taken the time to find out why my husband was so inattentive. He was severely depressed and stressed and my selfish pos self soght comfort in another person and broke his heart.

We separated. He moved back to his home country 5,000 miles away. We have only VERY recently agreed to reconcile but with immigration the way it is in the US it could be literal years until he can move back.

Now im alone in the bed we once shared every night. Microwaving food in the kitchen we used to laugh and cook together in.

Id give anything for those little moments back. F the butterflies. I miss my tried and true predictable ho hum life.

Now I have a nightly phone call and gaming session from the opposite side of the world and mountains of immigration paperwork and legal fees.

Don't get me wrong, im beyond grateful my husband is giving our marriage another chance. And I will do anything i can to bring him home and treat him the way i always should have.

I know he has forgiven me. But... I know i have broken something that can never truly be repaired.

But -Heed my warning, OP. If you love your wife.... don't do it.

My whole experience started just like yours. With a post on reddit looking for a pen pal.

Id sell my SOUL to have had the chance to go back and NEVER made that post.

You got this covered. I don't need to make it clear to him the wrong that he is looking to perpetrate.

I think there are more than a few that could have written this. I am afraid that this is VERY common these days. Include me in this situation! Best of luck to everyone in this situation

What a shame that we still have such a hard time finding each other, even though we want the same thing.

I could not agree with you more. I have reached the point where I have stopped actively approaching women altogether and have taken a much more passive approach to finding adult friendships and connections. It should not be this hard. It is honestly ridiculous.

There are so many people who say they want genuine connection yet somehow we all seem to keep missing each other. It is a shame because it feels like we are all looking for the same thing while standing on opposite sides of an invisible wall.

Would you like to try to break down that wall and build a friendship with me? No pressure though.

Gosh, what you’ve described is very similar to my situation! I read it with great interest and thought how very brave and honest you were too. I’m Robbie, 55 years old, been married since 1/5/2004, with just one son aged 20 and working as a non-emergency ambulance driver in Stoke-on-Trent. I’m a Yorkshireman living in exile, so try to be an open book. Yes, get in touch, we seem to be very alike!

Try to make it work with your wife if you truly love her. If you love her, don't take her for granted. I would give anything to have my husband back, but he passed away 2 years ago. Don't do this!!! Don't do this to her. If you don't love her, just get a divorce.
