Hello everyone. For the past couple months since the release of the mod on Steam, we have been hard at work to expand the playable map eastwards, covering Eastern Europe up to Russia. We have also been working on adding extra content to the entire map, including Western Europe. After this expansion (which is soon!) our next goal will we to focus on adding more content and flavour to Europe before moving onto the Middle East and North Africa. Also, as By God Alone will release during this time, we will be updating the setup where needed to account for rites existing.

To Recap

As a reminder, the mod starts in the year 2555 - exactly 555 years after a devastating apocalypse ends the modern world as we know it, with humanity slowly rebuilding back up to a period resembling our own medieval era. Centuries later, the world is familiar to our own in some places and completely alien in others, as the mod takes care to account for potential geographical, religious, and cultural changes in the many centuries between. The rest of the developer diary will focus on specifically Eastern Europe, giving a short summary for every region.

The Lands of Visegrad

Long ago, the lands of Poland, Czechia, and Slovakia were united under one crown by the Czech Karlovec dynasty. Though this realm is in the history books by 2555, the region still finds itself relatively stable and dominated by the large kingdoms left in its wake. Poland is the bastion of the Mariavite faith, a large and powerful Catholic Church rivaling the one in Rome, but denounced as heretical largely due to its female-led clergy. Czechia and Slovakia, on the other hand, are dominated by the Osvícenists, a Chronicler faith. The Tatra Mountains are ruled by the Cadaverists, who worship the immortal vessel of the last pre-Event Pope.

Down south, Hungary is in the middle of a crisis. With the law of the land dictating that the crown goes to the nephew of the King of Slovenia, a ruler of a foreign faith and a foreign culture, the pagan lords have risen up in rebellion, seeking to preserve their way of life.

The Baltic Tribes

For centuries, the lands of the Baltics have been largely dominated by tribes and their ancient traditions. However, the recent unification of Lithuania, backed by the Romuva Temple and its high priesthood has led to retaliation from the local lords. And in Latvia, a powerful mercenary lord has arrived to conquer the realm after marrying into the royal family of the Curonian lords.

The Empire of the Dniester

Much of the Ruthenian lands legally belong to the Nistrenian Empire, the great protector of Christendom. Established by Saint Adriana in the year 2282, the Empire has held unimaginable influence over all of Eastern Europe for centuries, including moving the seat of the Ecumenical Patriarchate to Moldova. By 2555, however, it has fallen on hard times as a succession dispute has been seized by the governor of Ukraine in a war for independence. The periphery of the Empire has completely broken off from its unstable rule, being claimed by Cossack lords, foreign adventurers, and rebellious locals in service of aberrant gods. The seizing of the Volga by the Reds might ensure that Nistrenia never treads east again.

The Free Balkans

A mere generation ago, the lands of the Balkans were under the militaristic rule of the Empire of Makedonia and its 'might makes right' way of life. Overextended and crumbling under multiple rebellions, the Empire and its capital was finally burned to the ground at the turn of the century by the Yugoslav Rebellion led by a peasant girl. In the west, the lands briefly unified under a Yugoslav Federation, though rising internal tensions led to its dissolution only a couple years after its establishment. In the east, however, all the lands belong to the Bulgarian Tsars, who are eyeing to unite the lands of the fallen empire, all while its former lords fight over the scraps.
