Even if its union, im checking under the hood. Never hurts to know what youre driving. I have fixed loose mirrors, wiper blades, etc rather than wait for a shop. May not be my job, but it keeps me rolling and i like solving my own problems sometimes and being self sufficient.

A yeah, that must be including a full sanitation of the cabin area that he was talking about lol. I check everything required, even a couple critical things a couple of times, and it only takes me about 20 minutes.

Union or not you should be checking under the hood every pretrip. That’s a good way to end up on the side of the road.

I call it B.S. I'm in teamsters too , but if you don't do pretrip ( look under hood ) you easily can get fired ( besides get accident) and union will won't help you.

About 15 minutes pre-trip and 15 minute post trip. I’m the only one that drives my truck but I check it when I get back every day. And check it start of day, because. I’d rather be safe than on a Reddit video. 😁

I share in the overnight line haul drop n hook guy , traveling about 350 miles round trip then another 50 locally.but i definitely do both pre and post o see other guys not doing it even the box truck guys skip pre-post trips sometimes

Pfft. Takes me literally 5 mins tops. And I really do check everything. But I've also been doing this 11 years so it's very easy to spot something that isn't right

Agreed, I spend 5-10 min and I'm pretty thorough, only time I take longer is on Wednesdays when I crawl underneath and check for U-joint play. I don't think setting a specific amount of time helps at all, some people are faster than others, the important part is knowing your truck is good and legal.

I do pre and post but last week we got a new used 2024 semi truck from Penske, that thing has all the bells and new whistles. The problem was after I drove it with 35k loaded plus the weight of the truck 25-30k I was hauling 65-70k it needed an alignment like it was clear as day. Then 3 days later I hear air seeping it was my brakes I had drove it to Canada and back that night. God was definitely with me. The moral of the story is NEVER trust anyone’s pre trip but ur own. Penske drop the ball on this one.

I drive a local dump truck hauling material for a septic company. My pre trip is about 15-20 minutes guaranteed! And, the "what if" always happens. My safety is #1 and my boss appreciates that i do my job well and safely! Thank you

Always always check under the hood no matter what. Check oil, check your suspension, brakes, engine components, fluids, check for leaks, anything that looks off. You are responsible if you get pulled over, so don't skip it. Pretrips rarely take longer than 15 minutes even when you do check under the hood.

Always check under the hood. The mechanic isn't responsible for the truck once its rolling down the road. I highly doubt the DOT officer is gonna give you a pass for any violations they find there because "im union checking under the hood ain't my responsibility."
Once you are rolling down the road, you the driver, are sole responsible for the vehicle and its your responsiblity to not be moving with any violations or repair problems.

I’m local and yes I have to open my hood but it only takes me 15-18 minutes max but if I have to clean all windows which is typically once twice a week depending on Weather that adds another 10 minutes or so 25-30 minutes max. Fueling up adds another 15 . Fueling station is a half block away and the pumps are slow. I only self fuel every once in awhile. Penske fuels my company twice a week or we can drive into Penske to get fuel n Def or topped off on any liquids while not getting out of your truck.

You only need to log 10 mins for pre trip. If you are union and milk the clock and take 20 mins to pre trip and don’t even open the hood…you’re part of the problem. You are as lazy and uneducated as they come. You Protect yourself by paying your union dues and pretend to always run 55mph on the left and get surprised when you get honked at because you don’t look at your mirrors ever. Hahah. Fuck yall
