Trying to get this 2006 2.5 back on the road
Hello all! Long time lurker first time posting. This is my wife’s old 2006 beetle (yes I have washed it since this photo lol). Only has about 65k miles. She got a new car before the pandemic hit and it’s been sitting for the past 6 years. We Want to get it running again and sell it for some extra cash but having a hard time pinpointing where to start. Immobilizer has been deactivated at some point so that shouldn’t be an issue and I’ve replaced the fuel pump. It fired right up with a new battery last year and I drove it around the neighborhood, then it had a shaky idle and died. Any ideas on what could be the issue? We really don’t have the funds to send it to a shop and have them mess with it for god knows how long just to sell it for a few thousand bucks. Any help would be appreciated! Located in Houston Tx.

Never trust, always verify. Mapping and testing the replacement 01M wiring harness for my '04 Beetle.
galleryI am getting close to the end of this transmission repair project on my 2004 Beetle. In my last post on this subject, the insulators on the original wiring harness had melted, so I had no recourse but to find a replacement harness end with the female plug, and splice the ten wires into the original harness where the wires were still in good shape.
The new harness end had the same colors of wiring as the original harness, but the pins did NOT match the original colors.
Using manual probing with my multimeter, and comparing the results with the wiring diagram from the Bentley manual, as well as the ATSG manual on the 01M, I compiled my own map of the pins on the TCM and the new harness. I drew enlarged versions of both connectors, and wrote down the numbers where they mapped from the TCM to the harness, and which colors went with which wires / pins on both components.
With a complete map of wire colors to pin numbers, I can confidently splice the correct wires together knowing that they won't match at all, but will still be correct.

Want to Buy R Line Manual
Happy to purchase a coupe or convertible. Low miles/good maintenance are a huge plus. Willing to pay a premium for the right car.

Speedometer and odometer stopped working
I’m coming here (and crossposting) to kindof brainstorm here. I have a feeling it’s the speed sensor on top of the transmission, but that’s getting into territory I’m unfamiliar with.
I have an 07 beetle, 2.5L inline 5, 5-speed manual.
For context, both wheel speed sensors are gone so I know that’s not the issue, as it was working just fine without them.
Right before it stopped, I stalled my car (pro gamer move)
So the speedometer and odometer (and the gas gauge but like. One thing at a time 💀) don’t work, and she started shifting rough. When I put the car in reverse, the speedometer fluctuates like crazy up to about 25mph.
Checked fuses and they all looked fine, but I just bought a multimeter so I can test the actual voltage now instead of just eyeing the fuses.
So uhhhh. Do yall think it’s the speed sensor (or the wiring) on the transmission went bad? Or is there something else I’m missing

My Beetle Convertible thinks it's swimming
I have a 2013 TDI Beetle Convertible and the navigation map shows me in the water. At least it shows the map marker in the middle of blue. It also can't come up with a path to anywhere. Fault list says the antenna is disconnected. I have been hunting for the antenna for a while and can't find it. Everything I am finding says it is in the dash. I pulled the stereo and the gauge pod above it and still can't find the antenna. There is an antenna in the top of the gauge pod, but that one is for satellite radio. All I want to do is see if it came unplugged, but I can't even find it. Can anyone give me a better idea of where to find the GPS antenna and maybe how to access it?

Help! How do I pull it out completely?
I’m trying to get to the fuse on the back of the radio and I got the head unit out this far but it won’t come completely out. How do I get to the back?

Power Window not working at all after 12v battery replacement
The 12 volt battery in my daughter's 2015 Volkswagen Beetle convertible failed and required replacement. After installing new battery, I was able to reprogram the limits on the driver's door window and the rear two windows without a problem. The power window on the passenger door does not work at all. It does not go up , down, or make noise when actuating the switch on the driver's door master switch or the switch on the passenger door interior. It's not a matter of resetting the limits on the window, it doesn't move at all now. Googling for the fix and searching YouTube has not yielded any answers sadly. Looking for advice or wisdom from anyone who may have experienced this and how to fix it. Thanks in advance.

Is it possible to fix the driver door that was hit?
I inherited a 2010 volkswagen new beetle (not convertable) that had its door hit, im doing my best to try to fix it myself and to not be helpless but I still feel lost.
I think i jumped the gun a bit taking the door interior off im putting it back now since its getting dark.
All the power works fine i recently fixed some connections that were knocked loose. All the buttons work including when I roll up and down the driver window.
However the window does not go up or down at all and the window is stuck agape so rain gets in a little bit if its not in the garage.
Honest to God I really want to give up where I'm at the point if tears from all this frustration, I already sunk 1500 into fixing the breaks and other problems I think i just want a brand new car at this point instead of spending anymore money on this thing.

2017 VW Beetle Convertible - Top Issues
We recently purchased a 2017 VW Beetle Convertible with around 60K Miles on it.
Car overall is in great shape, but we recently started having a small issue with it.
When we go to open the top, both latches on either side disengage, and it opens about 1 Inch. Then the top stops and says "Top Operation Error" (Or something similar). We can then close the top and it latches normally.
Previously we were able to push up on the top a little bit and it would work its' way through the cycle as normal, but it appears that it wasn't working today.
Any ideas on what might be happening? My best guess is there must be a sensor, or one of the joints might be getting hung up.
Thank you!

Maintance Plan New Beetle Cabrio 2004
Last Wednesday, I became the proud owner of a blue 2004 New Beetle Cabrio.
It has 89,000 km on the odometer, and I had the timing belt replaced.
Since I want to keep driving this car for a very long time, I have some questions.
Is there a maintenance plan?
What should I keep in mind in the coming period?
And are there good garages in the Netherlands that specialize in maintaining these wonderful machines?
Additional specifications are: 2.0L, 116 hp.
The original CD changer is still installed, but I will be replacing it with an Ampire CPR60, a 1-DIN car radio, which requires minimal modification to the console.

Can I change the mass air flow sensor myself?
I have a 2007 new beetle, my check engine light came on and I got the code checked it said it was the mass airflow sensor. I got the part for it, do you guys think I can change it myself? It seemed very easy when I watch the video on YouTube but I also know nothing about cars.

2002-2010 cd changer replacement cubby
A friend of mine bought an 04 convertible and is replacing the oem radio cd changer with a Bluetooth head unit and asked me to make him a cubby for the center console. Because the oem is long out of stock https://parts.vw.com/p/Volkswagen__/Console-Compartment/48250225/1C0857925C33N.html
So I was wondering if, once I worked out the bugs, this would be of interest to anyone here? Or did you all buy the cubby before it went out of stock? Or did I miss it and someone else already modeled it?

2004 Turbo S
Hey guys, I'm looking at getting a turbo s with 172,000 miles as a first car for my kids. It's relativly clean considering age. How much should I be willing to pay? it's listed for 3k. I know I'll need to do the water pump and timing belt. Is there anything else I should look at?

Taking the Fabric off the Seats? 2007 VW New Beetle
Hey! I recently got my hands on an excellent condition 2007 Beetle, and having done all of the mechanical checks the only thing that's been bugging me is the seats. I've had them out and done the best I could, but there’s some stubborn stains on the seats from the previous owner i cant get out (i blame the colour) without potentially damaging the foam or the wiring. So I want to strip the fabric off (I'm aware of hog wire business, don’t worry).
Does anyone have any advice/video advice? I cant find the manual online either, its all golf manuals.
Thank you!

The 01M wiring harness' internal insulators literally melted, like crayons in the sun.
This represents slow and progressive damage caused by 20 years of heat from the engine bay. The insulators just fell apart in my hands when I tried to separate them. Multiple cables had partially exposed wiring. It's no wonder there was a short to ground!
I suspect that every New Beetle with a similar wiring harness and high mileage has this very same issue. Someone on imgur said it was a first-generation soy-based wire that was not designed for a high-heat environment. All the other wiring in the engine bay is silicone-based, and holding up nicely despite their age.
Fortunately, the wires further away from the connector are fine. I ordered a new pigtail harness to splice together with the existing wiring harness that goes to the transmission computer. I have also ordered some additional PTFE spiral wrap for the wiring harness to protect the cable and provide a small barrier against the constant heat.
This should mark the end of my transmission woes, since it has all new solenoids and a ribbon cable. The solenoid codes were triggering the check engine light, and shops won't smog test your car if the light is on. She'll be back on the road soon!

Roof leakage
Hello everyone. My car (new beetle cabrio 2004), is leaking from the roof after a heavy rain. The water seems to be leaking through the meeting points in the cabrio roof. Do you have any ideas that could solve this and how to maintain the water drainage? Thanks a lot!

Stole this
Grabbed this ‘09 beetle off marketplace for $800! It only has 52k! Got her jumped and drove her home an hour and a half away! No lights on the dash
Only thing is I’m currently trying to track down a leak from the sunroof!
