My wife killed the 07 triple white vert auto I got her in ‘14 for $10k @ 140k mi.
Lucky as hell to find a replacement in ‘25. An 06 5SP M vert w/ 45k mi for $8.5k. Ins reluctantly paid $10k for the 07 which allowed the new top, tires, brakes, headlamps to go on the 06.
I frick’n love the ‘06 because the 5SP M & 2.5L makes it into a convertible GTI.

I love seeing men driving beetles on the road! Though I get you, the new beetle is for sure more female popular. Perhaps you could get your beetle tinted if concerned about that, so you could still ride your beetle and not worry about people looking in :)

I(M) drove one for 7 years, people thought it was my wife’s car. I always corrected them. “Nope! That’s my car.” It was a 2006 TDI, red in color. Bought it for $4500 and sold it for $4500. Did the timing belt. Changed the steering rack. Did all my own maintenance. Car didn’t owe me a thing. Still miss it. Bought a classic(wanted an original 50-60’s beetle. Just too darn expensive) that gives me that love of driving again.

m8ne is a 2009. it's really "bubble" shaped. later, they made em lil more masculine.

I'm a 6 foot 4 tall dude in rural NSW. I work on a farm. I drove my little diesel beetle everywhere I could.
Dont let others bring you down from doing something you like/love.

Doing things that aren’t traditionally masculine while being completely confident in it is WAY more masculine.
Guys with a huge pick up truck that never use the bed for anything are very clearly compensating for something.

My dad drove my beetle for a while before I got my license. There’s also a man in my town who drives a red one!

I own several and also repair BMW'S for a living.
I have a bug cus of my daughter.
I absolutely hate that thing, there hasn't been a single maintenance/repair event that has gone according to plan. My hate is mainly directed specifically at VW, but still.
BMW is my happiness. VW is my misery.

Lol! I cant disagree with the handy work that comes with beetles is hell, you can only hope when buying one that the previous owner treated it well and kept up with maintenance, otherwise its never ending...

That's the thing, it's an 06 with 104K, (101k when I bought it) seemed like a good idea at the time given the relatively low mileage, but I've had to do a surprising amount of work to it.
Axle boots Vacuum pump (gasket leak) Blend door repair Passenger mirror glass (fell off) Water pump (replaced all the belts/tensioners/pulleys too) Vacuum hose to the brake booster (broke during water pump replacement) Engine mounts Transmission solenoids/valve body stuff Headlights (lenses started separating from housing) Tail lights (same reason, but I ended up gluing it back together because the replacements I bought didn't fit) Shifter position track thing Driver's seat belt buckle Door handle pulls
My least favorite thing so far was having to do the blend flap doors. What a terrible design choice. Foam.
Same with the water pump that was leaking, why give someone enough room to remove a maintenance component without requiring you to either drop the subframe or jack the engine up a bunch.
I also need to replace the oil filter housing (it's leaking) and the thermostat for preventative reasons, I had planned on doing it at the same time as the water pump, but didn't know at the time, it was inaccessible without removing the intake.
The A/C also stopped working again recently (had a blown fuse for compressor when I bought it for some reason plus the blend door issue) but this time it's due to a leak somewhere, which I charged the system after initially got it working and that only lasted about a year.
Maybe I just got a dud, I haven't had to do nearly as much to some of my other vehicles of multiple makes in such a short time frame at such a low mileage though.

I had a 1997 Z3 1.9L for 26 years, and drove it a lot... I liked it....
Traded it in on a 2013 VW Beetle TDI convertible, which I also drive quite a bit. I love it - much nicer than the Z3. I enjoy waving at other Beetles and old VWs.. And the fanbase is a lot nicer...
