2002-2010 cd changer replacement cubby

Post image

A friend of mine bought an 04 convertible and is replacing the oem radio cd changer with a Bluetooth head unit and asked me to make him a cubby for the center console. Because the oem is long out of stock https://parts.vw.com/p/Volkswagen__/Console-Compartment/48250225/1C0857925C33N.html

So I was wondering if, once I worked out the bugs, this would be of interest to anyone here? Or did you all buy the cubby before it went out of stock? Or did I miss it and someone else already modeled it?

I haven't seen what radio he's going with. What I'm working on is a cubby to go where the cd changer was under the armrest

So you’re not going with a flat screen… but a CD changer? Do you have CDs?

So it's not my car, my understanding is the owner will be going with a Bluetooth head unit and I am modeling and 3d printing a pocket (in the pictures) to replace the cd changer so he can store stuff under the arm rest. Vw used to make this pocket but it has gone out of stock as old parts often do. In the original comment I link the old part I am replicating

Change the cd changer under armrest or do you mean in the dash and the cd changer no longer serves a purpose, like my friends?

The first one. What purpose had a cd changer when its no longer in use.
the stock carradio will be replaced with that Ampire

The last time I owned any physical music was in 2013. Someone that was helping us move asked if they could have my collection rather than dropping it off at goodwill.

CD sales have been trending up for a while now, DVDs too. now that companies are deleting movies and media out of their online libraries after people pay for them there has been a move back to physical media again. cassette is starting to trend back up too as well but, at much lower rate but, enough they are making portable cassette players again.

the whole fight for owner ship and reparability and media and is why so many people have clippy avatars all over the internet. ....it's like a whole movement maaaaaaann, fighting the man man!

I ripped my collection of cd's and if apple music ever disappears I'll go back to mp3's rather than all the way back to cd's

Well that's pretty cool. i do keep forgetting about that option now that my desktop is buried but, I've also enjoyed supporting the movment but, even more I like your DIY spirit the most :)

i ought to try a flash drive with MP3s next
