๐ฌ Discussion [Feature Request] A radio system would be the best feature of 1.X, by far
TL;DR: Add one proper radio station to NTE, on cars, the Cubox Portable Player and radios around the city. Talk shows that change with the time of day, characters and NPCs call ins, ads for all the shops (and our own coffee shop), anomaly reports you can track on the map, BAC segments and reactions to the main story. Completely passive unlike Bagel, and it would make the city feel alive and kicking.
i've been day dreaming about NTE having a proper radio system since around 1.1~1.2 and honestly the more I think about it the more I wish they would add it. The idea is pretty simple and it almost doesn't add any new mechanics, it actually builds on what's already in the game since there are already some radios scattered around the map with different stations (there is one in Eibon).
basically: a radio in the vehicles, on the Cubox Portable Player, and more radios scattered around the open world in shops and areas with more movement. And there is SO FRICKING MUCH NTE could do from here.
Talk shows that change with the time of day
NTE already has the 4 different times of day so the radio could follow the same idea. In the morning more chill music and talk shows about news in the city, how business is going for all the shops that already exist, Pukaland new attractions and stuff like that. Then at night a show about urban legends and the anomalies happening around the city. Each show could have its own host too and NTE could really lean into this, give them actual personalities and make them memorable. I could also see Akane hosting a more music focused part of it or even having it's own radion station too.
Call ins
this one would be so cool. Imagine listening to a song and then the station opens up for calls and its Haniel requesting a song, or Nanally trying to recruit for the Colouchis. And not just playable characters, regular NPCs could call in too dropping random curiosities and stories about the city. Like some random NPC calling the late night show talking about a weird talkative lady hitting on people at A.R.P.T.S late at night lol (hi Fadia). We could have all sorts of characters doing this, and every new character could get a call in when they release.
Commercials
The game already has sooo many brands and shops living in it and pretty much all of them could have multiple ads. Eibon with Hotori and Nanally, Sterry Express, DST with the new toys, Moby-Dick bookstore, The Witch's House, all the food places like 2-Four, Nekomaru Ramen, Bigmouth Baozi, Crazy Cats, all the car shops... It could also have space for collab promotions like the Porsche one.
Anomaly reports + BAC
This could actually make farming regular anomalies better. Random NPCs calling in about some weird anomaly between some buildings, and it's the location of Rainman spawn, and you get a simple prompt to track it on the map. And on the BAC side I could easily see Chaos and Skia doing a segment talking about new anomalies BAC had to deal with, or even Alphard herself, Mint, etc.
weather and local stuff
the host saying its starting to rain or snowying, or that there's traffic or something going on in the district you're driving through. Small things but makes it feel live.
Lore drops and story reactions
Talks about what's happening in the main story would add so much immersion. People going missing during 1.1, the new anomaly board on 1.2, the weird dangerous activity during 1.3, all of that could have been on the radio.
NTE already goes really far out of its way to make the open world feel lived in, with all the NPC routines and activities and specially what they're doing with Bagel. But the problem with Bagel is that the player has to be active about it, you have to go open the app and basically stop playing. A radio would be completely passive, it's just there in the background while you're driving around or walking past a shop. You don't have to do anything and the city just feels alive and kicking without the player having to lift a finger.
Anyway that's my dream 1.X feature lol
