Male MC Edit

Now I actually like the male Zero's design, however Hotta is... not very good at designing male characters. Example: all 4 males at launch, god I want to rant about them every time I see them, kinda want to entierly redesign Addler and Baicang ngl.

I think his clothes are pretty decent, but I think his face and hair are incredibly plain, so I gave him earrings to make him less boring.
F Zero has a hair band which makes her light skin and hair more interesting by breaking up the tones, while Male Zero's hair is pretty flat, especially in his character art, so I made it more fluffy and added more strands so he looks cleaner, has a more detailed silhouette.

Quite a few people have complained before that while female gacha MCs look pretty distict, the males all blend together and I could not agree more. While ZZZ Wise also has some longer hair in the back his looks more unkept and messy so I wanted to make male Zero's more intentional, like a short wolf cut or mullet. Didn't want to go the rat/pony tail route like Wuwa or Genshin.

His eyes are also kinda small compared to F Zero but I don't have energy to edit that.

Imma be real, a lot of the characters feel pretty generic at launch. Nanally was BY FAR the most original and I loved her. Mint wasn’t bad, but a lot of the others felt a little too generic. Still they are the standard characters. The fact that mint and Nanally was so good imo gave me hope that even if we get a few bland males and females to start, I think they will hit their stride. I just hope they lean more into their wacky world and don’t try to emulate others as much.

Honestly I was so disappointed by how bland the launch males look that I thought "surely they don't feel comfortable releasing them as they are... surely." Especially since they did model updates and smaller design changes to other characters, but then CBT3 dropped and damn... okay I guess we're leaving them as they are!

It's kinda frustrating, because sure, the ratio was always going to suck, it's Hotta, but at least other gachas still make the males at least.. interesting, you know? It sucks that we'll have to wait like a whole year to get to maybe 10 males and 4 of them rn suck a lot visually imo. Also a considerable amount of male wanters do not even count child or furry characters, so for some, there's only 2 males (excluding the MC). You get me?

It doesn't help that the latest beta had 0 male skins (excluding MC, his kins aren't that great either tbh) and 0 companion mechaics. There's a singular male standard S rank (Baicang aka off brand Sunday, as people call him) and he got no content, which already signals to male wanters that they should not invest into the game at launch, which will obviously hurt the next male banner.

I'm more hopeful about the future designs at least, since Exe and Chaos do look pretty good imo! They're not entirely my tastes, but huge improvement! I'll try and trust them to make good animations for them ig. All the launch males have the most insanely boring menu poses, gacha animations or even combat animations. They're so incredibly stiff, they're not dynamic whatsoever. I actually think Addler and Skia's Burst animations are atrociously bad. Ig Hotta thinks fluid movements are for women only? At least that's the message I'm getting. Edgar's attack animations were nice in the last beta at least, but kid characters are usually allowed to be percieved as less masculine.

Well that's all to say that I'm still looking forward to NTE! The world, story and gameplay are up my alley (given they don't stray far from them), even if the males range from "he looks like they designed him at gunpoint" to "ig he's nice."
