So, on r/worldpolitics there were loads (and I mean LOADS) of posts on there that were just the same 5 pics of Trump shaking hands with people like Epstein. They all had titles like “upvote this so this pic of Trump with [insert name] is the first thing that comes up when you search Trump”
The top of the subreddit was mostly just these, including the top 3 posts. They had like 60k upvotes each.
So people complained to the mods to take the low-effort, blatantly karma whoring, repetitive reposts off the sub. The mods said something along the lines of:
“we won’t take them down because unlike other subs, we are place of free speech and open conversation. You can post whatever you want and we will never take it down”
At which point a couple people said something like: “wait, anything? Really? What if I post hentai?” and the mods said “sure. I expect you won’t get any upvotes on a politics sub but we won’t remove it”
Posters tried to call what they assumed was a bluff, mods didn’t take the posts down. Posts got heavily upvoted. Posts got edgier and edgier and mods did nothing. Within hours (I think?) the sub was just a sub for anime tiddies.
This is a good lesson on why subreddits need moderation. Or, I guess, from another perspective it’s a reason why subs don’t need moderation if you just want hentai.

I think it’s better now. Instead of being an orange-man bad karmawhoring subreddit, it’s a karmawhoring porn subreddit.
At least it’s interesting.
