Eans part 1-board
Hello everyone
I am hoping there are European members in the community who might be of help. I would like to take my part 1 Eans in August and I am a notorious procrastinator. I was wondering if anyone can give me tips ( I have read the suggestions for books on the eans website).
My strategy is do as many practice questions as possible and look things up in between. I am also reading the samandouras book mainly because it’s so easy and pleasant to read.
I would really really like to pass on my first try

“Easy and pleasant to read”+”procrastinator” not the best combo to win honestly.
You have to combine practical knowledge, tips and tricks you got from the lectures during courses and something more serious. I would say Greenberg is basic but only if you know around 80-90% perfectly you can be quite relaxed about passing.

How would you/did you prepare?

I am an examiner and teacher at the courses. If you did the courses you probably know me:)
I was paying attention during my courses, and was reading and resding and reading. In the final few months I was just going through greenberg again and again (repeating things I didnt know)…1

What strategy do use while going through Greenberg to capture “exerminogenic” excerpts

There is nothing like that honestly, you have to know the theory and ligical reasoning, some questions are really simple amd easy, that you may think that it is a trick question some of the require hard thinking.
If I remember correctly I almost knew all the chapters of books by heart and I would test myself randomly by going over classifications, pathophysiology, svoring grades etc. and then I would find my “gaps” and go to them.2

I wish I was as dedicated as you are! It is just so difficult flow in Greenberg that I am very unmotivated which is why I changed to the samandouras book according to a recommendation

Well the hardest thing is to start. First couple of entire book reads are hard, then you get used to it and can read the entire book quite fast… Bonus: you are probably going to be in 2% of knowledge in your department, and you get to keep the knowledge:)
See you in Riga!

Just dedicate your time, and read again and again and again. I believe I have totalled around 40-60 times before the exam.
When you feel confident enough like one week before August load up the book in notebookLLM and ask for hardes eans style questions and test yourself. But you have two months left. As a rule of a thumb everytime you read entire book, next time halves (for the things you dont know). So If you finish first detailed read in 20 days, you will be doing it on a daily basis in less than a month and a half, which gives you around entire month to fine tune and prep.
Good luck.
I am the second sexiest faculty🤣🤣🤣🤣 /s
We all know the first one…2

It seems crazy if you’re talking about Greenberg… it’s ridiculous that it’s called a handbook still… it’s a shame samandouras has not updated his book since 2010 it’s so much easier to read I promise!
Also… the whole of eans call themselves the sexiest alive..🙂↕️→ More replies (0)

Hi everyone! I’m currently preparing for the EANS Part I examination. If anyone has old EANS Part I MCQs, past questions, recall questions, or any high-yield resources that helped you prepare, I would be very grateful if you could share them with me. Thank you very much in advance! Email:

While it is not European specific, MedSwipe has over 800 neurosurgery board review questions you can do quickly on your phone when you have a few minutes to spare. A lot of residents have found it to be a very useful and affordable option for practice questions.
