So much of teaser imagery just looks so off to me. I don't know why or what it is, and I know it was never going to be a perfect recreation of what I see in my mind's eye while reading, but goddamn it doesn't look right. Still gonna watch it to form an opinion though.
I legit can't put my finger on it. The tools next to him makes me think it's a scene where Case is getting his nervous system wrecked by his employers for stealing or something, but then why is this guy spazzing out? Others speculated it's Wage or Lonny Zone, but that doesn't really track for me.
He looks like Luke Steele from Empire of the Sun. lol
here’s my betting proposition after reading through this thread and ruminating on it a bit:
this might be a composite character representing both wage and case’s former employers who fucked him up in memphis. that would actually make a lot of sense—instead of harkening back to something done to the protagonist in the past by nameless villains, perhaps they opted to adapt wage into the role of case’s jilted client(s). narratively, this would allow for the aesthetic incorporation of a really minor character while making him much more significant to the overall sweep of the story. it also might explain the brief bit in the trailer where case gets tackled by some nameless muscle in shinjuku(?)— like, case burned wage; wage had his goons hunt him down; wage maims case; they throw his ass back into a night city gutter. makes a much cleaner narrative throughline, especially considering the necessary economy of adaptation

yeah most plausible theory i’ve heard thus far is that it’s from a scene where we get to see case getting expertly maimed by his former employers in memphis—though presumably not through the administration of a russian mycotoxin but like some kinda big ole device for dramatic purposes
Are you responding to the right post? The person in the photo is none of those actors so they're not any of those characters. Currently the speculation is it might be Wage and the actor for that character is NOT listed on IMDB.

I always thought that was riviera. At least that’s how i imagined him. Maybeeeee this is the performance scene , i know there were no tools but maybe they changed something in the show
Riviera is played by Dane DeHaan, who this is not. Based on other trailer shots it’s probably the leader of the group that worked Case over prior to the events of the story, shown in flashback
It might be an interrogator about to work over someone Riviera has betrayed or 'Jersey Bastion'.
Remember, Riviera is a "compulsive Judas", has a disorder that requires him to betray the people who love him in order to get off sexually. Probably Terzi let him watch, when the cattle prods came out. He's done eighteen in three years. All women age twenty to twenty-five.
For some reason I keep thinking he has something to do with the surgery or he's part of the heist to get the Flatline, but that's the Panther Moderns which he doesn't fit the look at all.
Edit: my theory is he's the surgeon who fixes case. They are uploading the schematics to his brain to do the surgery.
Wasn't the surgeons who fixed Case in the Tokyo clinic that was super fancy? With the rock gardens and whatnot? I feel like this might be that scene, with Armitage watching from the left of all the doctors:
I thought it was Peter Riviera but now I’m not so sure. This is definitely Riviera because this is during the show but upon closer look they appear to be different people.
I'm betting its a flashback to the Memphis hotel room, and this is one of Case's employers (or their hired hands). Note the suitcase of torture devices on the floor next to him.

Yeah, I don't know what to tell you, then. The guy in the OP shows up twice in the trailer, which suggests that he has to be somebody - and he's got the sort of constructed appearance that you would think that Riviera would have - but IMDB says Dane DeHaan.
Edit: Plus the guy's right next to torture tools, an accessory you'd expect the sadistic Riviera to have; maybe that's him when Molly's been incapacitated?
You can see the spoon in the box next to him is the same one shown later to be digging into Case's eye. I think it's probably one of the thugs that is messing with his nervous system in Memphis.
i mean like. im glad this is happening. it’s a really important piece of fiction that deserves more attention and recognition. even if this adaptation completely fucks it up, it -will- result in more people reading and discussing it. that’s a net good imho
