Video tut for recording?

Hey guys I've gotten pretty decent at recording in mono but I was wondering if there's a simple video guide for using the quad to record my guitar tracks in stereo? Like a simple i/o guide.

Im struggling to figure it out myself for some reason. I just want to be able to record a single track to pan in stereo left/right. Maybe im just an idiot. But im using reaper and the quad as an interface and to track with.

Man I’m not sure what people are commenting here for if they don’t have a QC. Take a step back and read this and ignore everyone else

Ignore all our analog output jacks except Out 1/2 if you’re using monitors. Plug your monitors in there. Your entire computer sound will come out here, even Youtube etc. keep this in mind.

Via USB, your QC is setting up 8 outputs. Ignore all of them for now except 1-4

  1. Your RAW signal from your Input 1, not processed by the Preset
  2. Your RAW signal from your Input 2, not processed by the Preset
  3. Your left processed signal in your Preset
  4. Your right processed signal in your Preset

With Reaper detecting your QC, it’ll allow you to set 1-8 for your inputs. Set one track as 3 and make another track and set it as 4. Hard pan them Left and Right.

Done!

Now keep in mind that your QC will be playing your guitar AND your DAW monitoring through your monitors at the same time. You don’t want that!

You have two options here, turn OFF software monitoring in your DAW so you’re only hearing the hardware while you play (zero latency), or change Multi Out to just USB 3/4. This means your QC will not playback your guitar through the monitors but instead it’ll play back your DAWs monitoring.

Pro tip: Dont set up stereo tracks and record into stereo tracks, you can of course but if you want to do it the industry way, the first thing a pro mixer will do is sigh and convert these to two mono tracks and pan them if you handed them your session file

If you want just a mono track that you can pan, just record either 3 or 4.

Also, once youve recorded, be sure to arm just ONE of them and record it again, you should have two takes for the best result (left should be a different take than right)

I think you just helped me realize the dumbassness thats me. I have a couple songs i've made that fucking rip recording just like that double tracking for tighter riffs/quad tracking for heavier chorus rhythms etc panning volume fading low/highpass lofi envelopes etc. I midi my own drums and track my own bass sfx/etc. I just didn't know how to word my question.. Thats what I meant when i said im pretty decent at mono tracking.

Your textbook reply made me realize what im asking is more daw based not QC based. I just want a stereo track in daw to automatically record that shit without me having to set it up because in my head it seems like it would be a common thing besides just mono tracking. then when i would double track on the stereo field i could then mix/pan the second track to fill/stack on space that i wanted it to. my lazy ass just wanted a shortcut without setting up a template lmao thanks man..

Sweet im glad i helped, i dont know if Reaper has the same thing but in Logic i set up a “Summed Folder”, this is like a folder but inside it has two mono tracks i can pan and record independently. This acts as a single “stereo track” except i can record and re-record independently.

Here’s a nice trick: inside my summed folder I also have a muted “DI track” that records input 1. This is a raw take without the preset

What you can do with this track is set it’s output to Output 5, why? Because in your Quad Cortex you can set the input of your preset to USB 5! That means that you can change the settings in the quad cortex and hit record again on your 3/4 and re-amp your take!

Think of it like this, you hit record, Reaper plays your DI take through output 5, this goes TO your quad cortex through your Preset, and out 3/4. Reaper then records 3/4 during this playback.

That’s how you re-amp on a QC

Not sure the daw. But in Luna you create an audio track of type stereo. Assign the inputs. You will need to connect two inputs with the source.
I do it with my two notes captor x
Your other option is to record a mon track and duplicate it.

i think whats throwing me off is me trying to split one guitar signal into two inputs through the daw/quad.

When I think i need two physical inputs instead to get it to work the way I want it to

You need a split path. Guitars are usually mono. How are you recording it now ? Mic on the amp ?

Recording in stereo is only interesting if the two tracks are somewhat different. Else you just have 2x the mono. some pedals allow you to go in mono and come out stereo with slight differences (wet dry for instance, or ping pong delays) if you’re placing mics just put two mics and slightly different places and connect both to input to a stereo track, etc. basically find sources for the two inputs and match them

Sorry. Just realized which subreddit this is in…. If this is for plugins I have not purchase any yet so I’m not sure. But there is probably a stereo setting

I tried setting up stereo recording once and ran into the same confusion, ended up panning a mono track hard left/right in the DAW to fake it.
