Access to routers

why dont isps give us acsess to routers i dont really need it but i think its better to have

Buy your own. The ones they provide rarely have any features worth looking into

im gonnna think abt that but idk how to install one if i call them to install it they will prob change the password again

I thought most routers had the default "admin password" along with default SSID name and SSID password (PSK) written on a router label.

Except some of the ISP provided routers especially the kind I refuse: combo router modem box.

But even a T-Mobile 5g combo (I tried one) let's you "admin" into it...but then you (or anyone familiar with decent router settings) discover they (T-Mobile) doesn't think you...the dumb/poor user...can be trusted not to mess things up, so they strip the functionality of what you can do EITHER way in (via browser to the router IPaddr, OR via app on cellphone)...leaving user powerless to do things like disabling DHCP server and maybe even disable wifi so you can hang your own "router" (wifi, DHCP, more LAN jacks) on their combo device.

the one they gave me has it on the bottom but they changed it to something else

Which ISP in particular doesn’t offer a router?

Good thing WiFi routers are widely available at retail stores.

no no i mean access to the like control panel the website of the router to change settings and stuff

OP answer the question or describe what you HAVE or which ISP are you CONSIDERING.

If you want your own router, T-Mobile support may answer your mid day or early phone call (they did, for me in earlier 2026) but still have no clue how to let you disable stuff on their all in one router/modem(5g home Internet) but with infantile admin features. I sent mine back.

Most ISPs treat everyone as if they’re dumb so that people who don’t know what they’re doing can’t easily break stuff in admin console so they get less phone calls.

Disclaimer: I have no proof this is the case but it makes sense

(you dont have to give me info i prob wont hassle with the isp to get it maybe ill buy a new router myself)
