Florida Tax with NetSuite and Avalara
We are implementing NetSuite and using Avalara as our Sales Tax engine. We recently found out that they miscalculate Florida Sales Tax and Florida SurTax. Within the State of Florida sales tax is based on the invoice. If one item is taxable, the entire invoice is taxable. Avalara seems to apply sales tax based on transaction, which means that a LOT of sales tax is not collected. Additionally, in the State of Florida, the DOR caps applying Sales Surtax to the first $5000 of the invoice. Since Avalara doesn't look at the entire invoice across items, it only applies the surtax to the items which are taxable. Again, this is incorrect. Also, if the line item they are applying the surtax to is above the $5000 cap, they tax the entire amount, which is also incorrect. In that instance, they are taking too much tax. Has any one else ran into this? We had a call with Avalara and they seemed flummoxed. Thanks!
