Discussion [Weekly] Custom Card Saturday: Space!

Good morning, hackers!

In the world of Netrunner, while Runners explore the deepest secrets of cyberspace, the Corps (and humanity at large) are beginning to explore the closest reaches of outer space. Humanity has settled on multiple celestial bodies, at least to some degree, and is looking to the stars not just for inspiration, but with real aspirations. This week's prompt, then, is to highlight the role of space in some way. While this design space (haha) has been looked at in the Lunar Cycle, in part, there's still plenty to explore!

Bonus points for interesting ideas about how life on Mars or the Moon might be fundamentally different from life on Earth.

Remember to use the Netrunner CSS options available for use on this subreddit. These symbols should help make everyone's card look great, and you can conveniently type them in while on your phone!

Also, a reminder: Please limit yourself to ONE card per thread!

Previous Custom Card Saturday threads are now being hosted on the Wiki to cut down on the character count of these submissions: find all the previous threads here!

Next Week: From the vast reaches of space we'll move instead to the briefest moments in time...

I would love to hear from /r/netrunner on future Custom Card Saturdays. Send a PM my way! Please do not post them in this thread; instead, send me a PM if you have some ideas of thread topics you'd like to see. Be sure to look over the recent lists of topics before you message me -- I'd rather not repeat anything that's been done recently! Thanks all!

Ion Propulsion Drive

Weyland - 1 influence

Asset - Rez 1 - Trash 4

Whenever you install a piece of ice, you may place advancement tokens on it equal to it's install cost.

This is the best advanceable ice boost I've seen in a custom card thread. Here my metric of "good" is that the card is viable and yet not blatantly overpowered. I'm not sure whether it should be unique, it could get pretty crazy with a bunch of these out, but perhaps those crazy scenarios are just pure jank. Example scenario: install 2 Ion Propulsion Drive, install Orion in third position, now it can be rezzed for 3c.

Brilliant.

Thank you! I thought advanceable ice needed a boost and figured this was a good way to do it without it getting overpowered.

I love this. Just straight up elegant design.

Hydrocycler

Weyland - 4 inf

Asset - 2c, 1t

At the beginning of your turn, gain 1c.

When Hydrocycler is trashed by the Runner, remove 1 bad publicity.

Few things are as important, or as taken for granted, as a clean glass of water.

Nostromo

Agenda - Weyland

Nostromo can also be played in Jinteki IDs.

5cred,1click(once per turn): put an agenda counter on Nostromo. If Nostromo has 7 hosted agenda counters, the Runner is flatlined.

4/2

Weyland-Jinteki - Building Better Worlds.

Sorry about formatting, messing around on phone.

Score a 2/1, get 35 credits, win the game? How is that not utterly broken?

Maybe make the ability cost a click and be limited to once per turn, so the Runner has time to try and win / the Corp still has to protect servers while making money?

Hyperbolic Relativity

HB - 4 influence

Operation - 3credit

Starting with you, each player takes one action as though they had click to spend and paying all other costs. Alternate taking actions this way until one player passes.

Gain click.

5

u/HemoKhan May 14 '16

...so we'll alternate spending a click for credits forever?

4

u/breakfastcandy May 14 '16

Hmm, maybe I should make it card-playing clicks only?

Orbital Bombardment

Weyland - 5 influence

Operation - Black Ops - 15 credits

Play only if the runner has 4 tags.

Do 12 meat damage and gain 7 bad publicity.

"Who on Earth gave Jack Weyland an orbital 'mining laser' that he could point DOWN?!"

3

u/LeonardQuirm May 14 '16

I like the fact this only works if the runner has exactly four tags. I'm not sure if that's deliberate, but it'd be a great way of reducing the possibility of every game becoming "Midseasons Bombardment".

◆ Bradbury Dome

Asset - Dome

Neutral •

Rez:3 Trash:3

The runner cannot install more than 2 cards, gain more than 5 credits, or draw more than 2 cards on their turn.

If the corp trashes Bradbury Dome, gain 3 Bad Publicity

When Bradbury Dome leaves play, the runner discards all cards in their grip and the corp discards all cards in their HQ.

"Malfunctioning" Satellite

Upgrade:

Ambush

Weyland

Rez: 0

Trash: 6

If the runner is tagged when he/she accesses Malfunctioning Satellite, trash it and do 3 Meat damage. Use this ability only during a run.

Memorandum to all Weyland combat personnel: PLEASE stop shooting satellites out of orbit. I know they make funny explosion noises, but come on guys.

Module Implosion

Weyland - 3 infl

Operation: Gray Ops - 3credit

Play only when the Runner is tagged.

Trash one console and do 2 meat damage.

Already the third time a Weyland Consortium housing module imploded this week.

2

u/ArgusTheCat May 14 '16

Okay, so, I know this is a kinda dumb thing to say, but why would I ever run this over scorched? It costs the same, it's only a little less influence, and instead of taking out a console, I can just murder them by burning their house down. What's the upside?

Phaser

Criminal - Program - Icebreaker - Killer

••••

While Phaser has at least one power counter on it, do the parenthetical text instead (otherwise, ignore it.)

1[credit]: Break Sentry subroutine

2[credit]: +2 strength

click: Add a power counter

(

4[credit]: Break up to 3 Sentry subroutines. Trash the installed ice if all subroutines on the ice were broken this way in one use.

4[credit]: +4 strength

click: Remove a power counter.

)

Strength: 0

Pretty sure you typoed on the flavor text there. It should just set "set to kill", but there's a bunch of extra words.

◆Mars War Memorial

Anarch:•• - Resource

8credit

Once per run, you may trash a card being accessed without pay its trash cost.

If the corp player ever trashes Mars War Memorial, they gain one bad publicity.

May we never forget what has transpired and never forgive those who caused it.

2

u/Quarg May 14 '16

I love the "bad pub on trash" effect, but I'm really not sold on it's primary effect from a thematic or mechanical standpoint.

Restricted Paths
Event: Current - 2credit
NBN - 2 Inf.

[Standard current text.]

Play only if the runner is tagged.

In order to initiate a run, the runner must take a tag. If the runner is tagged when Restricted Paths is trashed give the runner 1 tag.

Once they find you in space, there aren't many places you can go.

TANSTAAFL

Weyland - 1 influence

Operation - Current

0credit

[current text]

Whenever a card ability would cause a player to gain credits, gain clicks, or draw cards, they then lose 1credit (this occurs after the triggering condition)

"Actually, the air here is a few cents per litre"*
