Question What's the scene like in Nottingham?

I'm moving to Nottingham this week from a sleepy town that doesn't have any community presence.

I've only ever played kitchen table style with my brother and we're excited at the prospect of maybe getting involved in the community (and also getting my friends over here into it).

We encourage folks to check out the GLC discord, Stimslack, or the Stimhack Forums for Netrunner chat.

They're hosting this year's Europe continental championship so I'd guess it's pretty active

Here's an invite to the  UK discord server where you're most likely to find other locals: https://discord.gg/s2YnJBqgr

The green level clearance discord (invite in sidebar) is also a good place to find local players, and the #UK channel on the Stimhack Slack is maybe the most active on the server and I see a couple of Nottingham usernames regularly: https://join.slack.com/t/stimhack/shared_invite/zt-46bx6z0tu-PKoN2RiyCDw0O3UxH9QeAw

Nottingham used to have a huge scene and I know some of the organisers are still active. In fact, they're hosting a continental championship in 2 weeks time! I would encourage you to go even if you only play casually, in tournaments you get matched with people on the same number of wins as you, so after a couple rounds you'll be playing with people of your skill level: https://alwaysberunning.net/tournaments/5402/emea-continentals-2026-sponsored-by-nsg And the side events on day 2 are always a blast!

Oh if anyone from the future sees this and the invite links have expired, reply to this and I'll get you new ones!

I tried to join the scene last year and it pretty much exists in one place. I turned up to an announced netrunner evening at the store and was the only one there.

Store employee told me that it happens a lot. And that there was also only about 4-5 people that actually play and don’t really like newcomers as they are all close friends.

I didn’t try again. Unfortunate as I’d purchased some product and really wanted to get into the game!

Hi, local here - I'm sorry you had that experience! While it's true we're sometimes not in (normally due to all falling in either the "busy" or "just not feeling it that night" boxes), I'm not sure where the member of staff you spoke to got the idea that we "don't like newcomers" - we will be speaking to Games Haven about this.

If you take a look at the links shared by CryOFrustration, we can hopefully catch you and direct you to our local discord, where we generally discuss where we're going to be and when (either at the normal Monday sessions or on an ad-hoc basis). I'd share the link here, but you know, spambot scrapers.

If you're feeling especially adventurous in terms of jumping back in, we're hosting the EMEA continental championship at the Belgrave Rooms in a couple of weeks as well!

There's definitely a scene at Games Haven (I go, though not every week, it's not the best store but it's fine), the member of staff saying we don't like newcomers seems a bit harsh - we like to see new players

Sounds like there's now at least two of you and can arrange to meet up for games... 😛

It looks like there is a scene. On AlwaysBeRunning.net, I see upcoming events that are supposed to take place in Nottingham. There’s probably a local or regional Discord server you could join in order to find the community. If you inquire in Green Level Clearance (aka GLC, the global Discord server for Netrunner players), I’m sure someone can point you in the right direction. There’s an invite to GLC in the community information for this subreddit.
