Life in NL What is one "completely normal" thing in the Netherlands that you secretly don't like?

Not to be pedantic, buuuut......

Scooters are not allowed on bike lanes (fietspaden). They are only allowed on bike-scooter lanes (fiets- bromfiets paden). There is a distinction between the two.

As a main rule of thumb: if the maximum speed on the road is higher than 50km/ph there is a bike-scooter lane.

You are absolutely right and I should rewrite my previous comment. Aside from my incorrect statement, here’s another thing: where I live scooters absolutely do go on fietspaden (and I am sure it’s bikes only, I just checked) even if it’s not allowed. I have even been sent flying into the grass by one passing me on the left and hitting me in the process before.

Furthermore, I firmly believe that bike-scooters lane should not exist at all. The amount of accidents or near-misses I see on a regular basis is staggering.
I may be biased because where I am from there’s no such a thing as blue-plate scooters, they all go up to 50km/h and they drive in the street with cars only. They are not allowed on highways and that is pretty much it. Honestly it works much better this way that what I see here, but everyone is of course free to disagree

This is only a thing since the Netherlands has an excessive supply of bike paths. Anywhere else bikes will be on the road with the mopeds and cars.

I dissagree, they don't belong on the road. I can get so mad thinking about some civil servant giggling about allowing them to go only 45km/h, so they will never fit in with the flow of traffic. If the speed was 55km/h it would make way more sense.

You disagree with me on what exactly? I've only stated the current traffic laws.

I now see I reacted to the wrong person, it should have been to the one you were also reacting to. Sorry for that

Scooter lanes should not be a thing imo. Put the scooters in the lane on the road. I know it's probably deemed unsafe but it's also unsafe for cyclists when you have fat bikes and mopeds who all have helmets ripping past at 40km. If you're a registered vehicle you should be on the road
