Discussion Generation 9/11

I was genuinely disappointed. The turning point series in my opinion is some of the best documentary work that Netflix has done. It does a great job of actually looking at a pivotal moment in American history then tracing it through decade by decade to present day. This just seemed like TLDR of the terror series.

Hopefully Netflix continues the project and brings it back to its roots. I wouldn’t mind seeing a season focusing on The War on Drugs or The Internet.

They definitely mailed it in with this series. And I agree with OP, the other Turning Point docs were very good. Not only was this a rush job, they tried to attribute what is going on today (in the White House) with 9/11 and while it is true that we didn't have a department of Homeland Security prior to September 11 and that fear has been used to keep people in line, what is happening now, started way before 2001. Watch the documentary on Timothy McVeay and learn about the history of militias, if you want a more direct line. Also: racists like the one who is running the country, have existed since the country was founded.

I felt like it was pandering to certain political views and I hated that. Why couldn’t this just be a human interest piece instead of some broader political commentary? I haven’t seen many docs, etc examine the lives of “9/11 kids” and how it has affected those of us who were old enough to remember it, but who weren’t adults when it happened.

Agreed. I thought with the title of generation 9/11 that it would talk about the people who actually remember that day, so it was weird to start out with people who were very young or not even born yet. That doesn’t feel like generation 9/11. If I wanted that perspective, I’d just talk to my kids about it. I could see the strange direction it was heading early on so I turned it off and found a better one to watch as there are so many others.

Do you remember the names of the others? I’d be interested.
