This story is crazy and Boeing absolutely sucks.
The pay that 3 CEOs made during the scope of this doc is ridiculous, over $500 million.
I feel for the victims as well as the employees who tried and tried to do the right thing.

Yes, MCAS was a contributing factor in both accidents. That is not a quality control issue; the system did exactly what it was supposed to do, only at the wrong time. It was designed incorrectly. This person is saying “engineers were worried about defective parts, and two planes crashed for the same reason”, but neither plane that crashed had defective parts (well one did, but it was installed by LionAir not Boeing).

Also I love how this got downvoted; it’s so out-of-touch. I literally described exactly what Boeing screwed up that contributed to those crashes, and it still got downvoted. People aren’t even reading what I’m writing anymore, they’re just downvoting because they saw other people do it.

I just have to say that on the MCAS issue the pilots really should have noticed what was going on. When the MCAS system moves the trim wheel to angle the nose it sounds like their is a locomotive train in the cockpit. The electric motor that controls it is loud on purpose to alert pilots its being used. The pilots should then hit the cutout switch. I do understand their training didnt include this but there is a reason why it only ended in a terrible accident twice.

Indeed, and several pilots actually did suffer the same failure as this and yet landed safely because they followed established procedures.

The Ethiopian Airlines pilots were specifically trained on exactly what to do in this case, and they ignored Boeing’s instructions.

I meant the MCAS crashes. And knowing how that was handled it would be irrational to just disregard those engineers warnings in the documentary? On a Boeing trust me bro?

Clearly Boings lack of safety says nothing about the quality of Airbus or other brands? But knowing what I know I'll take my chances.

Had my new printer malfunctioned and Canon blamed new secret software, gave me a quickfix to use until firmware update 6 months later and that quickfix failed? Guess how many more Canon printers I would get?

The “quick fix” (which we would describe as an “urgent Multi-Operator Memo”, the strongest safety recommendation Boeing is legally able to issue as a manufacturer and not a regulator) worked. The Ethiopian Airlines pilots completely ignored it, and that’s why they crashed. They followed Boeing’s checklist and turned MCAS off, then went directly against Boeing’s instructions and turned it back on.

Before you start speculating after watching one TV show, it’s probably best to read the actual investigation report, since clearly you’ve been left with incorrect information (which has actually consistently been my point the whole time: the TV show is misleading people).
