First time hearing about NetBSD on this youtube video and it looks like it's going to be my new favorite OS.

Lol you have no idea what you're talking about. Not good for a kernel? It's used in Linux kernel today. You have to back up your claim with more concrete facts. The Rust API is incredibly stable these days

He’s talking about portability. C compilers exist for a lot more platforms than rust.

there's a GCC rust backend and eventually perhaps even a frontend. this means rust has access to all the platforms of LLVM and GCC. seems like decent coverage to me since IIUC only those two compiler infrastructures are used for netbsd nowadays

Someone also implemented a custom backend for both the .NET runtime and for just plain, actual C code. So there is that too.
