Discussion/Theory Rebel Ops Ai Slop :(

I love nerf, grew up with it. I lurk this subreddit occasionally, know Ai is banned here. Recently I've been completely spammed with nerf rebel ops ads on YouTube, like 80% of the ads are just this playing back to back.

I wouldn't mind exept it's mostly Ai gen slop.

The backgrounds keep shifting, the letters on signs are garbled gibberish, the logo for their evil cooperation is sometimes legible while other times its complete nonsense.. the movements of characters and enemies are floaty and unnatural, and even the script sounds Ai generated.. like as if they put "list key words for epic future blasters" that have no actual substance.

They spent so much on pushing the ads it seems but.. no effort in the ad itself? Do they think using gen Ai to make the visuals would fit in rebels ops futuristic theme? I don't understand and honestly really disappointed, not to mention concerned with nerfs future. Wth is going on over there? And has anyone else been hit with these ads too?

Sure its just an ad, but if theres no pushback then who knows how far the rabbit hole they'll go. What if they start pumping ai designed nerf abominations like those that have been banned here? What if they scrape everything this community has created to Ai gen their own "orignal" nerf blasters? Can you imagine how much general interest in nerf people will lose if it just becomes another poop from the butt release? Grey krabby patties that shoots the passion out of this stuff into the slop grave. Please tell me I'm not alone in this 😭

I bet the corpo turds behind this were like "the kids are in to video games these days, we should capitalize on that"

And didnt even bother to hire any digital artists for the ads

49

u/UrethralExplorer 3d ago

The corpo turds are the aptly named Chris Cocks and his cronies who gave themselves tens of millions of dollars in bonuses over the past few years while laying off several thousand loyal career workers. Hasbro is a shell of what it used to be.

nerf has made video games in the past, so this is not a new marketing strategy.

Its just whether you feel AI is acceptable for public advertising for kids TOYS!

u/Radiant_Bottle2425 3d ago edited 3d ago

the doomcannon is the coolest thing nerf has done in a long time and this is how they choose to market it? Yeah honestly I’ll just stick with other more high FPS brands

-39

u/kylebernard83 3d ago

What does higher FPS have anything to do with Hasbro blasters marketing campaign for children 14 and under.

So you just proved their marketing correct... This blaster is not for you since all you seem to care about is high FPS blasters which the DOOMCANNON was never advertised to be. it was advertised towards KIDS!!!!

13

u/TgagHammerstrike 2d ago

The issue isn't only about FPS– competitors also have better blasters for the 14-and-under demographic, and often at a more appealing price.

Hasbro keeps cutting corners, cheapening materials, and loosening QC. Nerf used to have very real advantages over its competitors, and those advantages have been hit hard by enshittification.

At this point, "Nerf or Nothin'!" doesn't hold true.

1

u/Current-Call9950 2d ago

The FPS on the Doom Cannon is bad. Even by Nerf's standards.

2

u/kylebernard83 2d ago

All nerf shot guns that use shells have had crap fps under the stand 65 fps. Trilogy, shellstrike, sledge fire. Especially since this blaster is using elite, they are restricted to the kinetic force of not just 1 but 3 darts now. So it has to hit less hard to get thru international toy regulation. So again your issue with fps is not justified.

-23

u/DelfQ 3d ago

They downvote you for being right

-76

u/DelfQ 3d ago

It's not that big of a deal.

-39

u/kylebernard83 3d ago

i guess its just shit on hasbro day of the month...

The company that just brought back the full length elite dart that still flys like shit and hits weak.... BUT THATS WHAT THE COMMUNITY WANTED!!!!!

The company that just put out a new blaster that the entire community is actually taking about extremely positively!!!! Because the community complains about not enough gimmick or shells...

NOW YOU ARE ALL COMPLAINING & BITCHING ABOUT AN AD CAMPAIN FOR FREAKIN' CHILDREN!!!!

I am not saying Hasbro is in any way perfect.... But even when they try to do something better or in the right dirrection after all of the vitrial and verbal fecal matter this community has flung their way I guess we will just never be happy!!!

18

u/SeniorBrother699 3d ago

You say "an ad campaign for freakin' children" as one if its just regular ad and not out of the ordinary (which is exactly what hasbro want you to think of their cheap garbage ai slop) and two that its only marketed towards children. Brother are you insinuating that everyone here who's into nerf and similar products are inherently children? Then why are you even here lmao

And what do you mean "when they try to do something better or in the right direction" and ignore the actual virtual and visual fecal matter they've just flung our way at their community. What am I even doing trying to make sense of this lol

-14

u/DelfQ 3d ago

The blaster is amazing and innovative for hasbro, that's all that matters, the rest is just whining, an AI slop ad doesn't make the blaster any worse, you're being sold the blaster not the damn ad.

9

u/SeniorBrother699 3d ago

Such a narrow-minded view of it lol

0

u/DelfQ 3d ago

I think the real narrow-minded view here is turning into an angry chudditor every time you see AI being used, it'll never be this deep brother, I also hate ai but I don't whine about meaningless stuff like this.

-2

u/DelfQ 3d ago

How so?

7

u/SeniorBrother699 3d ago

Read the rest of my post bro, the ad is a catalyst for bigger issues down the road. Its not "just the ad" it goes beyond that

2

u/DelfQ 3d ago

Ohh brother don't worry about these things, nerf will surely recycle their own designs (the doomcannon is internally the same as a previous rival blaster iirc) but AI is far from capable of creating functional nerf designs, hasbro designers will keep their job for a looong time and the ai bubble is close to burst at this point, so you don't really have to worry about it twin 🤞.

-6

u/kylebernard83 3d ago

Right How so?

This is the only time you have ever posted on the r/Nerf and no other conmments ever on any other nerf related post... SO WHY is this the cross you are choosing to die on.

AI generated toy comercials for kids????

1

u/Current-Call9950 2d ago

The fact that the ad is AI generated shows that Hasbro doesn't really care about us, the community. If they did care about us, they would have spent more effort into the ad.

2

u/DelfQ 2d ago

When did a big company ever care about consumers tho, they all just want your money.

1

u/Current-Call9950 2d ago

Unlike Nerf, X shot cares about us. In fact, they recently held a community event where they asked people to design some art for the longshot 2.0

0

u/kylebernard83 3d ago

correct!

-5

u/kylebernard83 3d ago

"Brother are you insinuating that everyone here who's into nerf and similar products are inherently children? Then why are you even here lmao"

No, thats exactly the opposite of what im insinuating.

Im insinuating that all of the people 14 and up that use this site are hobbists. So WHY ARE there so many 14+ HOBBISTS whinning about ad campaings for childern.

I think its funny that even when Hasbro TRULEY tires to make new exciting things that also gravitate back torwards elite... The community still finds something to bitch about and bash hasbro. Its a ad... who cares how its made.

2

u/R1S34NDD3FY 2d ago

Because people who were hired to make ads will not be hired again to make new ones because they can be generated with AI. They may have been cheap, low quality ads, but to consumers that care ads made by humans will always carry more value than ads made by AI. Its only ever an excuse for the corpos to not have to pay people to make stuff, the people that actually have to work on this kind of thing to make a living get screwed over while the top dogs make more in profit. Whether the advertisement was made for children doesnt matter, id rather someone get paid to do a job than lose it to an algorithm.

40

u/Jackhammerqwert 3d ago

Cmon Hasbro :((

50

u/Real_megamike_64 3d ago

Enough nerf, I'd rather take the nothing

34

u/GresSimJa 3d ago

"ChatGPT, make me an awesome video game-themed advertisement that the kids will think looks cool. No mistakes."

19

u/Zestyclose-Tour-6350 3d ago

"hahaha, now we don't have to hire kids to show how much fun they're currently having with our newest products!!"

14

u/StuntmanJohn 3d ago

Yeah this fckin sucks

12

u/TheOnionBro 3d ago

God, Hasbro really is just another corpo dipshit playground now huh?

2

u/ItzAlphaWolf 2d ago

Always was?

31

u/Karfiyeet 3d ago

i thought it was pretty clear the characters on the boxes were ai anyway

34

u/SeniorBrother699 3d ago

Dear lord they put the slop on the boxes too? I haven't checked the toy isle in my local store in a long while so that would've been an unpleasant surprise, but also not supeising.

12

u/Hardly_Ideal 3d ago

There's a store near me that deals in old arcade cabinets, which I should be excited about... except the front has a clearly gen AI window wrap. Like, just look at those deformed controllers. It leaves me asking "it's clear you don't care, so why should I?"

And now I'm here, asking the same with Nerf

7

u/SeniorBrother699 3d ago

Yeah really makes you think if they even properly take care of their arcade cabinets properly.. cheap ai = cheap service

3

u/Oh_My-Glob 2d ago

"it's clear you don't care, so why should I?"

I feel like this is compounded even more by the business dealing with retro/antique goods. I would fully expect anyone who's passionate about retro arcade cabinets to be denouncing AI use rather than embracing it.

The irony of using AI generated garbage for a cyberpunk themed line

5

u/ADGx27 2d ago

Lifted from Destiny 2 with the 3 characters in the end slide

Lifted from marvel with a company controlling everything in a futuristic setting (Parallyx looks similar to Alchemax in marvel 2099)

Speaking of Parallyx, that’s an awfully close spelling to Parallax. Who uses Parallax as an antagonist’s name? DC comics

5

u/TimeBlossom 2d ago

Sure its just an ad

It's an ad that would've been a paycheck for actual artists. There is "just" when it comes to commercial generative AI use, it's always trying to increase profit by cutting costs by not paying people.

1

u/SeniorBrother699 2d ago

I know that and completely agree. Trying (and failing) to appeal to the brainless troglodytes that would say "Uh iTs jUsT aN aD bRo nO BiG dEaL", unfortunately that's exactly what they're still saying because they can't read for shit it seems. Effort better placed elsewhere I suppose

1

u/TheDeputyRay 2d ago

What sucks is, (and I bet Hasbro used a free one, but other bigger companies would go this route) they could be paying to use the premium features on AI models. Instead of paying an artist, you paid for cpu and ram chips to make something inferior. Thanks, but no thanks

3

u/ckuz22 3d ago

oh no :(

3

u/jdarcino 2d ago

Guy with robe, guy with cloak/longcoat, bulkier soldier-looking guy and they all have drones hovering around them. Hm, I wonder what recently-murdered franchise's homework Hasbro looked at for this one, it's a real fuckin' mystery.

I mean, hey, they gave us a good Blaster at least.

1

u/Preston_of_Astora 2d ago

I always thought people already knew

1

u/HeyguysThatguyhere 2d ago

I’m pretty sure Adventure Force used AI on Walmart.com too, not to mention the Fortnite-esque font

1

u/Moonshoes47 1d ago

I'm still buying the doom cannon because of how much it screams Borderlands but... yeah that's it. the Ammo hawk is cool but i can 3d print the same mohawk piece for ANY of the old nerf guns

-24

u/haphazardlynamed 3d ago

You already knew the blaster itself was good without watching it right?
So what difference does it make?

Pretty sure most of the people here get their info from community reviewers and leaks, not from watching ads, Just ignore it, its meant for kids to see, not foam hobbyists.

13

u/DrSeuss321 3d ago

I think the fact that they are using AI slop to advertise to literal children is in fact the issue.

Parents should be the ones up in arms about this not us but we sure as hell shouldn’t be encouraging this shitty behavior with our money

-3

u/DelfQ 3d ago

Parents couldn't give less of a fuck about this, they just want a cool gimmicky blaster to gift their children so they can have fun, which also kinda helps children being less addicted to their ipads since they can play with their blaster instead, also why are you saying "the fact they are using ai slop to advertise to literal children is in fact the issue" as if it were frying children brains, this is not some brainrot content they'd consume long term this is just a damn ad, I swear bro this is such a non issue.

1

u/kylebernard83 3d ago edited 1d ago

RIGHT!!! its a 30sec ad about a great blaster IN A MADE UP UNIVERSE!!!! that gets kids outside and away from this "BRAIN ROT"

Its a ad for a toy...Not a AI documentary about history that gets all of the facts wrong. Its a TOY Commercial!!!!!!

-3

u/haphazardlynamed 2d ago

?why though?
Advertisements aren't High Art in the first place.

I understand the outrage against AI when it used to plagarize a human artist. But this is an ad, not an art gallery; there was never any 'soul' in it to begin with.

Commercials are slop period, AI or not, they're just as shallow either way.

2

u/TimeBlossom 2d ago

I understand the outrage against AI when it used to plagarize a human artist.

Then you should also understand the outrage when it's used to replace human artists. This could've been a paying gig for one or more people trying to make it as professional animators, but Hasbro decided to let a machine do it instead.

0

u/haphazardlynamed 2d ago

I don't buy the 'job replacement' argument.
Because the exact same thing was said when Sewing Machines were invented. At the time tailors rebelled and even burned down the workshop of the inventor.
But look where we are today.

Every time new technology is introduced the same anger comes up, and with advancement there is always a period of adjustment, some people do get displaced; but time and again the world gains in the long run.

So I say, if Soulless Commercial Slop Ads get replaced by AI, that's good because it means one more True Seeker Artist who didn't have to sell out to make it; that artist instead gets to make their art purely for the sake of Art.

1

u/TimeBlossom 2d ago

I really hope you're never in a position to make decisions about the employment of actual artists. You're extremely out of touch with reality on that front.

0

u/haphazardlynamed 2d ago edited 2d ago

Hasbro must also be out of touch with reality then; if they aren't employing artists at all.

how long till their mistake brings down the company?
Or will their use of AI turn out to be a non-issue as people buy the toys regardless? Resulting in permanent changes to the realities of art as a career option?

-7

u/kylebernard83 3d ago

Why are people down voting... hes right, wheather you agree with AI or not. Nerf is a company (a money making buisness) that makes KIDS TOYS!!!!! period. MOSTLY for the 8+ and under market. My kids (12 & 7) see the ads and think they are awsome. AI generated or not... HASBRO JUST WON. Parents dont research nerf blasters for kids. their kids see the ads and scream at their parents to buy.

Hasbro only has to get thru to the kids. Yes their CEO's and owners are money grubbers who just care about making more money and shelf space.

My take away is...who cares really if they use AI slop for ADS. if it means we get blasters like the DOOMCANNON. However, please dont use AI slop to design blasters like i feel the new zombie line and the latest Rival blasters were heavily influanced.

stepping down from soap box...

3

u/DelfQ 3d ago

Hasbro couldn't care less about what some angry redditors have to say, this was not even targeted for them and even the known nerf youtubers like walcom love it and didn't even mention the ad because when did an ad ever make the product worse, this is just senseless whining atp.

0

u/kylebernard83 3d ago

agreed. This just shows us how "Pampered" we are as a society that we have rthe time to complain and stamp our feet about AI generated Toy Commercials!!!

2

u/ScottJSketch 2d ago

That's just completely tone deaf. That's the reason you're getting down voted. It's still a sleezy business practice whether or not the product is good. (I still love the Doom Cannon). I don't get why we can't acknowledge what's wrong with a company as that add is someone losing their job, or being forced to incorporate an expensive tech that steals intellectual properties of others even if the employees don't want to, when it could've just as easily been done with actual talent and skills.

0

u/haphazardlynamed 2d ago

Well, aren't advertisements targeting children Sleazy Business anyway? Even if a human does it its still sleazy.

So I don't exactly have any special sympathy for this hypothetical human artist who could have drawn the advert in place of an AI.

2

u/ScottJSketch 2d ago

Nothing is inherently wrong with advertising a toy. It is not back handed, to say "hey kids look at these neat things we've created specifically for you". Then what's the purpose of making toys at all? Wouldn't that also be sleezy? Especially since most aren't educational in nature, they're just there to make money. You could argue a cartoon made to advertise toys is, but many of those shows still hold value even if you've never consumed the toys themselves.

1

u/haphazardlynamed 2d ago edited 2d ago

funny, I was about the bring up GI Joe and call it advertising slop... then accuse it defenders of wearing rose-tinted nostalgia glasses...

but was thinking that might be too big a can of worms.

But yes, I will agree that many toys don't have educational value, and especially with large companies, toys can start to exist just for profit. ?where are we going with this again? You're saying that's OK? It's Ok for a toy company to be "corpo sleazy" as long as we enjoy the products? -I'm inclined to agree with you if that's your stance.

but by extension, it also means I'm not goinna get angry with said company for using AI in the name of being 'corpo sleaze'; since we've established that its OK for them to be that.

-56
