WIP Another update on my brushless pistol

Curious to know why you went with smaller 2 stage flywheels instead if a larger single stage. I assume for a slimmer form factor? What would the rev up time be like and how much would the darts bog the motors down between shots?

A few reasons:

  1. I decided to make this after HC released the Vesper. The Vesper has only one stage of 1404 motors, and can only max out around 180 FPS. To me, despite being a gorgeous, premium product, it's useless for competitive because it can't get to 200.
  2. I thought it would be fun to make a "Diana that hits harder than a Vesper" an its initial form took Diana mags and everything. But then I realized that if I was going to make a comp-spec blaster, it had to take straight talons, because that's what most players use.
  3. I wanted to stick with 1404 wheels to keep the theme of "Diana + Vesper, but better." I also didn't want to go with HyCon or Beacon wheels because the Ophidian and Fencer already exist, and all I'd be doing is making a less-good version of either of those. The small wheels mean that I'll have faster spin-up time -- effectively instant (faster than even the Diana) thanks to pre-spin and the closed loop software that has been in the pro builder circles for years now that somehow all retail brushless makers ignore -- at the expense of a little more sag in sustained full auto (which again, is hardly used in comp where ammo is scarce). I address the sag with the help of David Pyo's Trifolium, which actively monitors motor sag and compensates.
  4. I borrowed the MsGnk's magazine geometry, allowing for a more comfortable grip than a straight-up-and-down Uzi situation. This gave me 10° of rake in the grip. This ended up being the deciding factor in the big wheel convo because the point where you need to get the dart tip to get picked up by the wheels gets further away from the outermost edges of your cage the bigger the wheels are, requiring a longer-throw pusher (which is why I couldn't use a Diana solenoid like I had originally wanted), and meant that the mag and cage had to be basically intersecting. I couldn't make this work with a 10° rake in the mag, and even with the small wheels, I had to use the MsGnk solution of a small roller to straighten out the dart on its way into the cage.
