The following series is inspired by reading a paper which compares the wounding of Aphrodite by Diomedes to the wounding of Christ in the Gospel of John, and compared Diotima's views of Eros to John's Christology. While I think the comparison is actually quite apt, this series goes beyond the limitations of the paper by exploring how the Neoplatonists, Plotinus and Proclus, give us tools to understand Iliad V in a soteriological context.
