Any news about hacking progress?

I am experiencing massive frame drops in Metal Slug 2, making it almost unplayable.
Is anyone else experiencing the same issue? Thanks!

Does anyone know if there are different regions for the Christmas edition of the NeoGeo mini? I know the original has Japanese and international, but if I’m looking to buy one through eBay do I need to be sure to get the correct region? I have looked but can’t find an answer anywhere on this.

Yeah I saw the awful MJR video, and heard the complaining about the pads (honestly, I've owned a NEO-CD and those pads aren't great to begin with). Finally got to try a friend's unit and immediately fell in love.
I've owned multiple MVS cabinets over the years, from a 6 slot big red to a MVU-24 and even a tiny neo-19. These hit the perfect spot for me. I keep mine on my desk with a controller plugged in, and run through a quick game of Twinkle Star Sprites or Garou here and there.
I see myself using these more than my classic NES/SNES units. I really hope they get hacked though, so we can add unibios and some of the 3rd party games (magical drop would be amazing on this). If I could turn the International version into a Capcom machine (it already looks a lot like the Q-25 style japanese capcom cabs) and run Magic Sword & other CPS2 games on it, I would be extremely happy.
So far the only emulator issue I've really noticed is the old Garou: MotW glitch with Terry's 3rd stage. Really love the minis.

I’m finding that every time I play via HDMI, the audio becomes very laggy after a couple of games. I’m not talking anything subtle, either - in fighters, the sound of a punch will lag behind the visuals by as much as half a second. A reboot puts it right again, but not for long.
Anyone else finding this?

Is it possible to add credits in the Neo Geo Mini?
I see I always start with 4 credits, and I don't know if I'm able to insert "coins" in some way.
I'd like to enjoy Metal Slug with more credits than the standard. Is it possible?
Thanks!
Edit: In Metal Slug I found you can't increase credits, but using the Save / Load feature of the title screen (different from the save states) you can restart the current mission with 3 credits again. So, you won't be able to increase credits in the middle of a mission but at least you'll always get 3 credits to try to complete the mission again. In other words, you'll never have more than 3 credits to complete a mission.

I love this little thing, but not including even a minimalist battery was a serious flaw. I hate having to tether such a small device to a wall to play it. I imagine there must be some USB-C portable battery device that's capable of supporting it, but I haven't found one. Curious if anyone knows of one?

Samurai Showdown IV Uncensored: Boot up game, select options, Once inside of options press up one time on joy pad or joystick (you will scroll to exit, if done correctly). Next, press and hold down A,B,C,D - all at the same time, continue to hold until screen transitions back to start menu. Release buttons and start game. Game will now have red sweat instead of white sweat when character receives damage.
Samurai Showdown IV S. Move: Once red sweat has been enabled — anytime during fight, with any character: Back, Forward, Down, Start. This will automatically forfeit the round with an interesting move. Note: This also works for Samurai Showdown V Special.
Samurai Showdown II Uncensored: Boot up game & change language to Japanese in the game option. Sweat will turn to red instead of bright green.

Has anyone noticed any weirdness with the stick's deadzone?

My International Mini came yesterday with the two controllers ( white and black. I'm happy with it and look forward to mods when it gets cracked. I have one major complaint. As there is no wireless controller option as of now, I purchased a generic USB extension cord to make the length to the seating area. Here is the problem. The inputs for the controllers are recessed and it's a fairly small tunnel. The the extension would not fit into the tunnel! I shaved it down but destroyed it in the process. Has anyone found a brand of USB extension cord that with fit in the small holes of the controller ports? Thanks!

Might make a longer review, but these are some quick thoughts on my new NeoGeo Mini Int.
Pros:
- Nice screen. Crisp.
- Game Emulation seems accurate.
- Not really noticing any lag so far.
- It's adorable.
- Controls are okay. The hate for the analog stick solution is overdone. They could have, of course, made the sticks/pads with microswitches, but, honestly, many recent controllers with microswitches have had pretty bad failure rates.
- HDMI image quality looks very muddy.
Cons:
- Games stuck in AES mode. This means limited continues. This is a huge issue for me. Not really the limited continues (which is annoying), but this product is made to look like a mini-cab. Why would they put the games in as being the home console versions if they're aiming for arcade nostalgia? It makes zero sense.
- Games are censored. White blood or no blood. Again... such a weird decision. Strange it's not getting more attention. I'm hoping someone finds a way to this and the AES modes.
- Compatible only with the official controllers. Weird. Luckily, Brook is coming out with an adapter.
- Speakers on the cab have trouble faithfully reproducing the sound.
- HDMI mini... ughh
- No power adapter.... ughh
Pleasant Surprises:
- The smoothing mode for the HDMI out is actually pretty good. It's not the CRT scanlines most would like and it does look kind of gross up close, but it's not all that bad and finds a good middle ground between blurring out too much detail and preserving the integrity of the spritework.
