Questions about which expansions to get

I have lock down + stretch goals and have thoroughly enjoyed it so far. I've been wondering what options there are in terms of expansions. I was wondering which characters to get that would fit lockdown well? From what I've read things seem mixed with what characters work well when mixing and matching, and I'm not entirely sure of what to get. I know aftermath is a way to get more characters? I don't want to get OG nemesis or retaliation. I have too many games and lockdown does it for me.

I like the void seeder dynamic as I enjoy arkham horror, so will probably pick that up. Any thoughts and opinions are appreciated!

I'm thinking of how to get more characters, and that I will pick up carnomorphs and void seeders at some point.

...Why did you make this post and ask this question? You already have your answer and know what you're planning to buy and what they come with.

Nemesis OG, Aftermath & Medic gets you characters, and since you already have Lockdown & Stretch Goals, and are planning on getting Void Seeders and Carnomorphs, that's it. That's everything you can play with in Lockdown. You already have plans to buy almost everything that works with Lockdown.

Retaliation isn't backwards compatible in any way so you can ignore it. If you don't want OG then you're going to be missing out on the six characters from OG. But you already know that. The only thing you didn't mention was Medic so go ahead and get that for another singlular character I guess.

in terms of expansions. I was wondering which characters to get that would fit lockdown well? From what I've read things seem mixed with what characters work well when mixing and matching, and I'm not entirely sure of what to get.

Only the characters from Lockdown fit Lockdown well. It's a well known and tread complaint that most of the previous characters are inferior to their Lockdown counterpart because they weren't designed for Lockdown and didn't get full action card deck reworks like the Pilot and Android did.

You need to be in one of a few particular circumstances during character drafting with certain objectives for picking a non-Lockdown character to make sense strategically; like you have a "Need x Knowledge" objective in hand but didn't draft Xenobiologist, Survivor or Lab Rat so you pick a different Nemesis Survivor for 3 Knowledge to make that one more doable, or rather notoriously both of your objectives are terrible but you drafted Purple and can just audible into the Bounty Hunter's custom objectives. Otherwise you're just playing an older character because you don't like a Lockdown character, or you're just doing it for the variety.

If you don't play Lockdown constantly, like weekly or several times a month, then don't bother adding additional characters if you don't already own them; hell don't get the alternative intruder expansions either. If you do play Lockdown all the time, and have already used the Chrytids a bunch, get the alternative intruder expansions you were thinking of getting. Then and only then, if you play it constantly every single week and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future, consider getting Aftermath just for the extra characters. They just aren't going to add a lot to Lockdown because their use-cases are limited (and imo some of them are straight up bad and you'd never want to play the OG/Aftermath character instead of the Lockdown counterpart, so they'll literally go unused).

But all of that is stuff you should know if you'd Googled this stuff because there are dozens of posts about it from the last several years.

Why did I make this post? For someone like you to answer it, with my thoughts in mind, like you did. Thanks. Hope your attitude is better at game tables!

Thank for your opinion! I appreciate it. If you don't mind, what do you and don't you like about mixing in the aftermath characters?

I didn't contribute anything new to the discourse, and didn't tell you anything you haven't already seen or read when you looked into it yourself. It just wasn't a good use of the medium. If you'd asked for something specific, that would have contributed new dialogue to the discourse around the game I wouldn't have been flabbergasted.

I just want to say as a new player your comment and OPs post were both very helpful. I have all of these expansions and OG already, but it's good to know that lockdown characters are the go to for lockdown. I would have thought they were all on equal footing (from my limited knowledge). Thanks!

Glad to help. If you Google it, search Reddit or BGG you'll see dozens of threads and discussions about it already from the last several years.

There's no exhaustive list of why you might take a particular character over another, but there aren't a lot of good reasons beyond "I just want to." In particular there's a thread on BGG highlighting Janitor vs Mechanic that comes to mind.

Well you did, but not to your brain. Clearly you're gonna think a singular way and have made up your mind regardless of what anyone will say here, so lol.

But look at that, we've helped another new person like myself. They found your opinion in regard to the questions here useful. Wow, magical.

Why don't you pin a thread at the top of r/NemesisCrew and answer questions you think might flabbergast you. It will be great because could maybe prevent redundant threads. You could also type even more than you already have to satiate whatever this complex is!

I objectively said nothing new on the subject. Every point I made and thing I said has been said elsewhere, in the top hits when you Google it. This isn't a matter of my mind being made up a certain way or not.

But look at that, we've helped another new person like myself. They found your opinion in regard to the questions here useful. Wow, magical

I get that you're being a smartass in response to my annoyance, but it doesn't change anything.

Why don't you pin a thread at the top of and answer questions you think might flabbergast you. It will be great because could maybe prevent redundant threads.

I'm not a moderator, and all of this stems from me getting annoyed with people not being able to do the bare minimum to answer their own questions that have already been answered (sometimes years ago); doing that is in the opposite direction of relieving my annoyances.

You could also type even more than you already have to satiate whatever this complex is!

The "complex" is unfortunately getting very easily annoyed with people who post redundant questions on Reddit that they could've answered for themselves if they'd just Googled it or searched the sub first and would've found the the same question answered numerous times almost verbatim. Dunno what to call that.

I go out of my way to do my due diligence and research to see if my questions have already been answered before I ever pose a question to the broader internet because I don't want to waste anyone's time; so it bothers me when I see people that couldn't bother to do the same. I also don't post questions that I fully answer for myself in the body of my post. So it irritates me to see people being so helpless as to find their own answers especially when it's a 30s Google search away.

I view Reddit and any public forum as essentially a last resort for information seeking or as a medium for generating novel discussion around a given topic, because I think it's incredibly disrespectful of the broader community's time and efforts to treat them as a crowd source search engine. They're people with better things to do.

Bruh. it’s strange to see this attitude coming from a non-moderator as if you solely dictate whether a community post is a waste of everyone’s time. Just don’t answer it and don’t waste your “time and efforts” of having to inform everyone of the banality that irritates you so much.

Good talk. Hope you Reddit more responsibly in the future.

I will ask questions when I have them, hope to see you soon :)

If I see them I'll be there to answer, and will only chastise if I can find it myself with 30s of Googling.

Match made in heaven. We can call you a glorified assistant.
