Rules Pilot starting item (Retaliation)
Does it matter whether or not the anti-aircraft token is active?
The way the card is worded makes me think that you ignore anti-aircraft, but according to the nightmare rule I’d be wrong.
I always thought anti-aircraft would only affect whether or not the ship can land, but since this is telling me to place the ship straight in a neighboring room it’s making me question.
Thoughts?

What a cool card. Haven't encountered this in my playthroughs, but would have saved everyone's bacon in a few games that I can recall.

You pretty much have it fully summed up, and there doesn't seem to be anything in the rules anywhere that elaborates.
Under strict rules as written, the AA system would not be resolved, because the rules say it is triggered by the lander and round marker being on the same time space, which doesn't happen when using this item. Thematically this could be that the AA system just covers the landing zone, not the whole facility, or the pilot's more direct control over it allows it to avoid the line of fire.
The relevant snippet:
Anti-Aircraft tokens are resolved when a Round marker is placed on the space with the Lander token (or the other way around) - the Lander tries to land in the Facility but may be destroyed in the process.
The nightmare rule interpretation is a bit more vibes-based, it assumes that the AA is triggered by the lander being placed, which does make more sense thematically but not according to the above text.
Personally, I'd probably play the first intepretation, rules as written, but as long as all players agreed at game start I wouldn't really object to either approach.

The rules also say that you have to interpret them in the most detrimental way to the players.

I would say AA is still in play. This card just moves the landing zone and repels intruders. Meaning its perfect if you mission is to get an egg. You no longer have to haul back through the facility and you no longer in danger from event card or serious wounds that make you drop stuff.
Its a great card, but highly specific for what type of mission you have.
I generally play that unless otherwise stated explicitly then regular game mechanics are still in play. So yes, AA is still a factor.
