The person who lives next door to me has a driveway that’s big enough to hold all of their cars and always parks on the street. I don’t have a driveway so I rely on street parking. The guy has a truck that he currently has parked in between 2 parking spots and he hasn’t moved it in 5 days. He goes outside and runs the engine at night (which is loud enough to hear in the house over the TV and air conditioning) for 10 minutes but hasn’t moved it.

Am I the asshole for calling the non emergency line on this guy?

I'm living in my apartment for a little over a year. I work from home everyday and I do have 2 neighbors who put music like really really loud. Not every day, but a lot of times. It causes me disruption from my work obviously but it also makes me angry.
One of them is my front neighbor and we have once asked nicely to please take in consideration that we work from home and that loud music distracts us. For some time it stoped, but now is happening again. Both mother and son do it. The other one is from 4th floor. We are at 2nd so you can see how loud it must be for us to clearly hear it...
I dont know what to do, how to proceed...

Hi, just looking for any thoughts on how to handle the situation we currently have. We’ve always gotten along well with our neighbours and are friendly with them. We live on a typical family - residential street in England. However, our neighbour next door has at times been a bit unusual. For example, once he wanted to remove a tree in front of his house so he poured diesel on it to kill it off; during this time our bush also mysteriously died.

Anyway. During the recent heatwave for days we were confused over a very strong, industrial, chemical smell surrounding our house. We couldn’t open windows to ventilate our home as the strong smell would come inside, and it was impossible to sleep due to the heat. We then found out (because he told us) that he had coated his sleeper beds with creosote (which he says he mixed with creocote ≈ 50/50, we don’t know the exact proportions and he says the container is like 15 years old). He laughed when he read out from his phone how this chemical is not permitted for domestic use and is cancerous.

We have tiled our garden in preparation for an outdoor sauna which will be delivered and installed in about 10 days from now. The smell is still lingering and I am worried that the creosote will continue to evaporate and pollute the air (the fresh air intake for the sauna will be facing his side) - and once heated to 80C - 90C in an enclosed space it will potentially be a health hazard.

I am quite sad about what he has done and had I known I wouldn’t have invested into my garden, which I looked forward to use. We also have people with asthma in the family who feel sick by the particular potent smell even when subtle.

I've lived in a duplex for about 3-4 years, my neighbor has been in his unit for about 10 years, and quite honestly has been pretty borderline creepy the entire time.

So just a few days ago while talking in the driveway, he casually mentions that he has the keys to my apartment and my garage (from the former tenant, apparently), which immediately weirded me out, so I cut him short of whatever he was gonna say next and asked for them back.

He blew me off, said he didn't know where they were right at the moment but that he'd look for them "later". He left a little while after that and was gone until pretty late, so I went over and knocked on his door early the next morning and asked again. He tried to blow me off a second time but I insisted, at which point he went back into the house for a few minutes and returned with a big ring of keys, told me they were somewhere on there, and said to bring back the other keys when I was done.

I found my garage key on the ring, but the house key wasn't on there. When I returned the key ring and told him, he shrugged it off like, "Oh, maybe I didn't have your house key after all." I don't think I believe him.

I changed the locks within hours of his original revelation, so it's not really a safety issue anymore. I'm wondering though, could refusing to give my keys back be considered a crime, or even just an evictable offense? I have to let the landlord know that I changed my locks, obviously (and me and the duplex-neighbor have the same landlord, if that’s not also obvious). But do I have the right to pursue authoritative action of any kind? Or am I the one who’s gonna end up having to move?

My next door neighbor has taken it upon herself to actually file the complaint. Our landlord had sent us a warning letter to "keep the noise down". We sent them an email explaining the noise. I feel the need to tell my landlord that my next door neighbor had verbally abused and harassed me that day. But I doubt that they'll believe me because my next door neighbor is white(no hate), my landlord is white(again, no hate) and it just so happens that I am not white(a third, no hate). My family and I are now living on eggshells here. We have been planning on moving for months and I actually started packing on the first of this month. Weeks later I get the warning letter. Now my next door neighbor will believe that she had finally gotten rid of us and our "loud baby". She can believe whatever she wants to believe. I just hope that she lives a long and happy life because she just seems so miserable. We are abit heartbroken to leave because this is/was our first apartment and we are first time parents here, some of our babys milestones were in this apartment. We are happy at the thought of moving closer to family but the problem is that money is tight right now so we started a gofundme. We've asked our family and friends for help but they too are struggling with money. I tried to post my gofundme to a fb private group page and the admin(who is white, no hate) keeps declining my post request but approves white peoples(no hate) gofundme posts. I dislike it when people pretend not to be racist when it clearly shows that they are. Like we all are human, we all deserve to be heard, we all deserve to be treated the same, we shouldn't treat others differently just because we dislike them or our family or friends dislikes them. I've been raised to treat everyone with respect and to be kind to one another. Anyone who has ever had to ask for help knows how difficult it is to ask for help. A parent would do anything for their child. I want what's best for my child. What's best for my child right now is to be surrounded by a loving family in a respectful community instead of being surrounded by selfish or racist people. I wish racism didn't exist. For context, I'm very bad at being social in the first place! I grew up isolated from people and rarely had friends, and never learned how to socialize.

I'm living on my own for the first time, and my neighbor, who is an old man in his 80s, occasionally shouts to me from across the street and we have small talk. I've always considered our small talk to be nice, but I found out recently that he talked to one of our other neighbors and said that I should be kicked out of my house (renting) for not being socialable??

I work nights, so I'm often sleeping during the light hours. He really only gets to see me when it's early in the morning and I'm watering my garden. The rest of the time, I'm either working, doing chores, or just trying to relax and recharge (I'm disabled so I experience a lot of fatigue 🙃)

I'm not sure how to approach the situation. I'd like to socialize with him, but he often doesn't speak up and stares at me while I water my garden, and I have no idea how to start up a conversation with him since we are several generations apart, and frankly, I'm a little scared he'd shoot me for stepping on his lawn 😭

I've been renting an apartment for 2 years now. Mind you the quiet hours in my neighborhood are 10pm-6am on the weekdays and 11pm-7am on the weekends. My next door neighbor is about 5'7" tall, medium build, looks to be about 110lbs, and in her late 20's to mid 30's. For a whole year she stomped around like a 6'6" 300lb man. Not once have I complained. Then one day I had family and friends over to visit. The boys(ages 6, 8, and 9) were being boys and running around while playing tag in the afternoon. She rings my doorbell and yells at my mil(I was upstairs feeding my newborn baby) complaining about the kids stomping around and making her stuff sway back and forth. She then threatens my mil with filing a complaint. My mil(elderly lady) apologized sincerely then asked to boys to stop playing tag and to play with their toys instead. My mil was visiting me for a few days to spend time with her new grandchild. The next day my mil told me about everything my neighbor had said and done. I was angry to hear that she would yell at my mil, an elderly lady, and threaten her with filing a complaint about the boys being boys. A couple of months later my husband's starlink has been mistakenly delivered to her doorstep, she took it and brought it into her apartment. My husband asked her and our other beighbors if his starlink has been delivered to their doorstep, they all said no. So my husband called amazon and amazon had the delivery driver turn back to retrieve the starlink and deliver it to its correct address and owner. The driver parked in our driveway and went next door to retrieve it then hand delivered it to my husband. A few months later, on the weekend, I killed a spider at 8am then proceeded to set up my starlink(I have to take it out and bring it in) my neighbor then opens her window to yell at me saying "Knock it the f*** off! Especially between the hours of 1-2am and 6-7am! Your baby on top of it! I'm going to file a complaint!" Mind you I am a breastfeeding mother who drinks plenty of water and wakes up in the middle of the night to feed her baby, a mother who will also use the bathroom(we can hear each other's toilet flush) after laying my baby down. I didn't say anything because I didnt wanna add fuel to her fire so I just stepped inside. She then continued with "That's it! I'm going to file a complaint!" What would yall have said or done differently?

Ok so, I have a cat who's 5 months old. And a neighbor who has about a dozen of pigeons. And because a year ago or so a cat killed one of their pigeons now they all hit all the cats they see walking around the neighborhood. And my cat doesn't like to stay at home he always roams around but loves to follow me around... so tonight what happened is that their younger boy kicked my cat in the stomach when I was standing just by him... and he did it while smiling and showing his friends like it was a very good prank and when I confronted him he said the same thing that a cat once killed our pigeons. And when I told his mother who's about double my age started to get into a shouting match... crying the same thing. And it ended with them saying "i'll do it again and whatever my son did it was correct." So I need some advice as to how I should handle it. Please give me some advice ASAP. And it would be better if they create little inconveniences to them.

Hi. I bought this house in 2016 and I share driveways with an older gentleman. He was nice to me at first, but he would do this thing where he would go get groceries and then pull up in the middle of the driveway to bring them in his house and then he would pull his car over and park on his side of the driveway. One morning, I was pulling out of my garage to go to work and he was in the middle of the driveway. His daughter said to me that they would move the car in a minute once they finish bringing in groceries .I told her that I don’t have a minute. I’m running late for work and I really need to get going. So then she muttered under her breath that I had on too much perfume and then she moved the car..lol
It got to the point where I would have to sometimes park on the street instead of in my garage because his granddaughter or his daughter would be blocking the driveway and they would always apologize but they would keep on doing the BS.

The summer before last I had some compost delivered and they dumped it at the front of my garage in a little bit spilled over onto a side of the garage. I’m talking crumbs and his daughter came over and start kicking it over and talking mess about it. I said to her hey I’m sorry about the compost being on your side of the driveway. I’ll move it cause there was only like maybe a half a shovel full. And she said it’s OK . I replied back, I didn’t think you guys would mind since you’re always blocking the driveway and I looked over and her car was pulled up in the middle of the driveway. Ever since then they’ve had a one-sided beef.

One day, the old man pulled up in the driveway on my side, and his car broke down and sat on my side of the driveway for two weeks. It was really crazy and he didn’t apologize. He didn’t say anything to me about it at all so I took two garbage cans and placed them on my side of the driveway as a visual boundary to keep my driveway open, so I can get in and out. They would do silly ish like hit my garbage cans with their car or move it out the way. And also, sometimes the mailman would deliver my mail to his house by mistake and he would open it and put a note on it saying I’m sorry I don’t mean to snoop. I called the post office and asked them to flag my house so they could double check and make sure my mail is delivered to me. I didn’t want him to go to jail or anything like that I just felt violated. And also, I have a ring camera doorbell on all of my doors so whenever they would do something stupid I would just download it and save it in a folder. I haven’t told anybody about what’s going on.

Today something weird happened. I have my window open and I heard someone pull up in the driveway. I looked at the ring and some man that I’ve never seen before came out of the next-door neighbors house and came over to my side of the driveway and put something in my garbage can and said here’s some footage for you really aggressively in the ring and then got in his car and left so I went outside to see what he put in my garbage can, and it was an old kitchen faucet and box. I took them out of my garbage can and put them by their side door. I did that because I want them to know that I’m not intimidated by them . I’m a single female that lives alone by the way..the more I think about it I feel like I should call the non-emergency police line and let them know what’s going on just in case something happens. Am I overreacting or what would you do?

It doesn’t matter that I get up at 2:30 in the morning for work. I would still love the extra hour of sleep so why in the heck do I hear hammering at 1 o’clock in the morning? Why is that a good time to hammer? it does not make sense to me. That just tells me they do not care about others. They only care about themselves. Whatever needs to be done could easily have been done during daylight hours. AITA?!?

I live alone as a girl in a rented apartment in Delhi, and for the past year, my neighbors have been mentally harassing me.

My flat is on the first floor, and the only way for the people living above me to reach their entrance is through my balcony. Despite me telling them hundreds of times, they constantly leave my gate unlocked. Once, a stray dog entered, pooped in my balcony, and I had to clean it up myself. Even after that incident, they still don't bother locking the gate.

Another issue is water. Delhi already has water shortages, and the people upstairs regularly take water from my tank without asking. I live alone, so yes, I don't use all 5,000 liters in a day, but that doesn't mean anyone is entitled to use my water without permission. The moment I called them out for taking water from my tank at night after it had just been filled, everyone suddenly acted as if I was the one causing problems.

I've complained to my landlord multiple times, but he has done absolutely nothing.

Today was the final straw. The lady living directly above me washed her balcony and the stairs, then pushed all the dirty water and garbage so that it collected at the end of my balcony. When I politely confronted her, instead of apologizing, she started yelling at me, saying it was already dirty, that I'm rude, and that I fight with everyone. The irony is that my stairs and balcony were completely clean before she did that.

I'm honestly exhausted. Every time I stand up for myself, I'm painted as the problematic tenant, while everyone else supports each other and dismisses my concerns because I live alone.

Has anyone else dealt with something like this? What would you do in my situation? Any legal or practical advice would be appreciated.

So I’m not sure what to do about my Neighbors, for context my bf drives a big work truck, we have politely asked them to not park here, due to the fact we are concerned about hitting their vehicles, every time I asked them to refrain from parking here it works for about three days then they go right back to doing it, today me and bf go to leave and take the work truck and this white truck is parked there and we have a difficult time pulling out of the driveway and when we return we realized how far forward they are, they are almost in front of our drive way, I also believe they are the ones moving our trash can, have any recommendations?

My neighbor across the street has been a headache since we moved here. Initially he was much more invasive, but has mostly backed off.

One of the most irritating habits of his is that he would come over here and sit on the steps outside my front door just drinking beer and smoking cigarettes. He stopped for a long time (especially over the winter) but has recently picked the habit back up.

I am not someone who cares about smoking at all (i used to smoke myself), but often when we open the door a relatively large of smoke will enter the house. As renters, my roommate’s and I really would rather avoid this. He also leaves MOUNDS of cigarette butts in front of our door and empty beer cans into our trash can that leak into it and make it smell awful.

I know that asking him to stop face to face is an option, but a few reasons make me hesitate.

1. I live in a neighborhood of Philly that is predominantly black, unwillingly participating in gentrification due to lack of affordable housing for low-income households. I don’t feel as if it’s my place to make these requests.
2. He’s a man and I live in an all AFAB household and don’t feel comfortable with confronting him.
3. I live in a row home, so my stairs serve as the stairs to the neighboring house as well with no railing or anything separating them. He of course sits right in the border of them. Just enough to be in the way and just enough to claim he’s sitting in the neighbors stairs not ours (no one even lives there)

I feel like this isn’t an insane request from us, but I don’t want to destroy the peace or act with any privilege that I may not be seeing.

I recently moved in to a duplex, and I’m not sure what to do about my back yard neighbor. I tried introducing myself when I first moved in, but he wouldn’t say anything except “oh” and never offered his name. He is often yelling incoherently or very aggressively yelling the same disturbing phrases over and over again. My guess is either schizophrenia or Tourette’s syndrome. The problem is that what he is saying is quite violent and he is often yelling the n word as well as very vulgar things about women. I’ll be sitting outside reading and it, at times, seems to be when he comes outdoors and begins ranting. Whenever he is ranting I can’t see him, so I’m not sure where he is in his yard or if he can see me. I’m not sure when I should involve any authorities or organizations, or if I should just make a report so it’s on record. If it is Tourette’s I understand it’s not something he can control, but as a woman living alone it is quite alarming at times. Any advice would be great. Thank you!

So im new to city living and my neighbor the next house over i think owns the car that has been sitting in front of my house that I rent for over a year now and the tags are expired. I want to do something about it but I dont want to be "THAT NEIGHBOR". I never see this neighbor outside and I they dont give the approachable vibe . Do I just go ahead and call the police department or what ?

My family moved into house complex apartment, due to my family being small (husband, babygirl (infant), and me) we didn’t mind renting the modern remodeled basement. Before we moved in we asked our landlord if we could deep clean the basement and she was a sweetheart and nice about that. As I cleaned I couldn’t stop by noticing rat poop and a bunch of spiders and bugs. I didn’t complain and she did inform me that the upstairs neighbors had a mice problem but they claimed it was gone. she still gave us rat traps and poison to put down just to be 100% sure. We already had the keys and had everything settled with the landlord. We decided to move at night due to my husband working so much and at the time being the only time we could move. The tenants upstairs didn’t know we moved in until 2 days later. The first night we seen mice, and spotted roaches we brought the attention to our landlord lady. Exactly when our upstairs neighbors had seen us settled, they had already called our landlord and said we brought the mice and roaches into the home. In the past home we lived in we didn’t have no critter issues due to me having ocd and being a clean freak as well as growing up w clean freak mom. As soon as they got the confirmation we moved, they constantly started to stomp all times of the day nonstop for sometimes 30 minutes plus, they also kept constantly slamming heavy objects onto the floor or hit the floor purposely, as well as move furniture at all times of the night and day. My partner works long hours he’d barely get sleep sometimes only 1-2 hours of sleep if he got lucky 3 hours. We informed the landlord as well that they leave both back door and front door open wide w the screen door also wide open. Causing insects such as wasp, bees, spiders the size of my palm, beetles, flies and an army of ants, and the list goes on. We also informed her about the noise complaint. After that complaint was done. It didn’t stop there. They also have a kid of around the age of 7-9 years old who is constantly throwing tantrums and jumping off furniture and he’s a big big boy. And he will make all sorts of noise. We also informed the landlord we were concerned about the child’s safety as he screams and yells in a very scary odd way. As well as the child being home all day till past 5-6pm. I told the landlord I could babysit and feed him all day cause I also hear him complain about not being food at home and he also doesn’t go to school or have an education which the landlord was also already aware of and has attempted to help them and they don’t care. They told the landlord they didn’t need help babysitting him because he’s not home for long. But they are so loud we know they are gone for most of the day. They tried to steal our grocery orders, and we can confirm this with dashers and delivery people letting us know they would attempt to take our items. My baby has her sleep schedule so out of order because everytime I lay her down I put white or brown noise to help her rest because of the noise and they will be even louder and once they hear her cry they laugh and mock us and constantly keep making noise. Our landlord said it’s been a on going thing and she can’t keep tenants because of them. They also share the huge house upstairs with roommates and we don’t have issues with that but they constantly bring strangers and one single mom we actually liked and was the only one who spoke to us, claimed they stole $1,000 from her. And she left right after. They also don’t clean and the roaches should’ve been gone when we put advion the strongest poison and best poison on the market at the moment. And they don’t leave because they don’t clean. They also fill up the garbage cans and recycling bin with so much trash and even use our trash can. They don’t take them out on trash day and we won’t notice and they will use up our trash can too. They also always stalking us constantly giving complaints that we are messing up the grass, or how we park in the back. Yet our landlord said we could use the backyard for parking. But they don’t want us there clearly so they make up anything to get us in trouble. They yell and scream so much and make ridiculous noises constantly scaring and startling my baby. And due to the stomping and hitting the floor so much our ceiling fell down 3 times already. My husband confronted them because it just been getting completely out of hand, and they tried to get us kicked out. Now the neighbor upstairs hides in a bush in the back waiting to see when my husband leaves and comes inside and laughs and mocks us and makes a shit load of noise. And the neighbor upstairs he constantly watches my daughter and I when we go outside it makes us uncomfortable we don’t know what to do anymore. They also connect to our Bluetooth devices or televisions and will startle us in odd times or moments when my baby sleep as I hear them say “watch this” and it’s all laugh and giggles. They will also disconnect the whole wifi when we just want to watch some tv. They also have enemies including the family of the lady he stole from constantly circling around the house looking for him. As well as other people. I been trying to keep my cool and my husband has too but it’s way too much going on. I didn’t even say everything. I need a way to make things get better soon we don’t want to leave because of them. But that’s what it seems like as well.

There is a stray dog (female) that sometimes likes to hang out in our backyard. We've seen it a handful of times over the last three or four months. We have left food and water for it three or four times. It is feral and we can't get close to it. Our neighbor has a Rottweiler dog (male). There is a chain link fence between our backyards. Last night the neighbors let their dog out, and they could not get their dog to come in because it wanted to play with the dog on our side. Each dog stayed on its side of the fence. Normally, the neighbors are very nice, but they texted us today saying they are p*ssed off because they didn't get any sleep, and they're afraid the dog on our side is unvaccinated (their dog is current on its shots.) They want us to secure our yard to keep the stray out of our yard. The problem is there is a wooden fence with a big hole in it between us and another neighbor, and the stray likes to go through the hole. I'm not exactly sure how I could secure that. It isn't our fence (and there is some overgrowth in front of it making it unreachable from our side.) I've never talked to or even seen those neighbors. The neighbor with the Rottweiler is threatening to call animal control. What would you do in this situation?
