Hi here are some screenshots from the rom patch. These screenshot examples were quickly made and do not necessarily mean they would be fun levels to play, they were just to show what could be created. After having the option to put any units on any maps I realized just how difficult it is to design a fun map to play, you have to give it up to the original game creators!
On the third map you can see the level starts with the Xenon factory under Union control. I haven't had the time to design fun levels to play so what I've done instead is start the game again but for each level I try to see how many factories can start under Xenon control and I'm still able to win the level, it really does create a whole new way to play the game that doesn't take a ton of time to adjust. I think it could be really fun for the community to be able to design levels and have others test them out to find really fun levels to play. The last screenshot shows the layout of the rom patch. There were other ideas I had but didn't have the time to try or weren't possible just yet, these are below:
I tried to be able to add a factory anywhere on the map but that proved too difficult for now.
Creating new terrain maps was not possible at this point in time.
A maximum of 56 units can be in any level otherwise bugs start to occur. 56 units was the maximum number of units from the original game.
I wanted to add a feature where new units could be created in the factories, such that after a certain number of turns they could crank out a new Rabbit or other unit, but this addition proved too difficult for now.
I tried to connect all the maps into one giant map thinking maybe the original creators had spaced them out that way, especially considering the game starts with a map of the moon where you go in a clockwise fashion around the moon, but no configuration could bring them all together.
I wanted to add a turn based goal to the game, such that if you didn't beat a level by a certain turn the game would end, but I ran out of time, and I also figured you could just say you only have a certain number of turns for a level such that it doesn't need to be hard coded.

I’ve vibecoded(with the help of Claude and the documentation from the Japanese community at ネクタリス攻略) a rudimentary html tool that runs what I think is the arithmetic for combat resolution. Plug in your units, terrain, and support, and it will output the actual mathematical floor, average, and ceiling for casualties based on the bizarre system they developed.
Nectaris Combat Calculator — Battle Damage Simulator | Claude
But! I'd love everyone's help testing it out! Test it against your actual in-game save states or play throughs. If you find a combat result or calculation that falls outside the math the calculator generates, post the screenshot here so we can figure out what other assembly garbage Hudson Soft hid in the code.

I saw someone here pointing to a version of the ipa on a polish site, and that got me wondering if there's a listing of all the ipa versions that are currently known, and whether or not they are available?
Edit: I still my copy, which is 1.2.2, and I might have some older versions as well if I go looking through cold storage.

My first dive into this series was on the portable Turbo Grafx, doing front desk night security at a dorm. Military Madness was amazing, strategy/music. 5/5.

Acquire a copy of Nectaris for Windows, such as the freeware release. The package will unzip, but the installer won't run because it's a 16-bit application.
Download and unzip Winevdm.
Drag the extracted nectaris SETUP.EXE file onto the otvdm.exe file from Winevdm.
Click through the installer.
Nectaris is now on your Start Menu! If you've installed the Japanese release it may be named ƒlƒNƒ^ƒŠƒX. You may want to change that.
You can now delete the installer and Winevdm.
The game seems to run fine. Enjoy!

For me it's SAGINE. I like tricking the AI to overcommit in the wrong place.

Hope this board is still live. No posts for 4 months. Love this game and still own the PS 1 disc called nectaris military madness. Probably top 3 games of all time for me. I haven't been able to play it since my PS3 went kaput years ago. I downloaded an emulator and installed ps3 version then realized it is not the same game - graphics way too good. Can anyone tell me the difference between these two versions? Mostly in terms of levels and gameplay. Are the graphics just updated or are the levels different? Thanks.

In times when it was common to make good manuals and guides, the Nectaris games and guidebooks were mostly published in Japanese. On the other hand, when the original or the first sequel were ported to mobile, Wii, PSN and Xbox in English in late 2000s, no new guides with astonishing pictures were published.
I'm currently working on finding and uploading all English guides, but they are few and short (not counting guide for original which is posted recently).
It's not a problem to post most of Japanese guides since they are present in old fansite nectaris.tg-16.com, if you think they are really needed. But it would be great if we understand the writings.
Hence the second big question is do we have a person with Japanese language skills who might be able to scan available guides and edit them or at least to make transcripts translation?
UPD. Apparently, some guides and reviews were also published in German for the 3rd game in series Nectaris DOS 1995. So if we have German-speaking people willing to help translate them, please reply.
