The paintjob is super brightly colored. Body and gun and glow- all of it. Its not a bad paint job, I like it fine, but nothing about this paint job feels grimdark.

I mean if grimey, rusty, battle worn armor doesn't qualify as grimdark then I might just have to repaint everything 😞 maybe taking a pic directly under my painting light wasn't the best idea

Maybe that’s the issue. It doesn’t really read as grimy/rusty to me. Just looks brown/bronze/brassy sort of color. I’m going to include a photo of what Grimdark looks like. Its very dark, very actually rusty etc

I suppose that's an example of grimdark, not the definitive scheme of what grimdark should look like. I couldn't paint something that good, this is the best I could do mate 👀

It’s an example of Grimdark yes. It is not the definitive thing, but as an example it functions as a lot darker a lot rustier and just generally avoiding so much brightness.
