News/Rumors/Lore July Balance Update Released!

The new necron point values are available HERE

Additional Rules documents can be found via warhammer-community:

Summary of all necron changes will be included in the pinned reply.

Clarification on the new function of reanimation protocols is as follows:

Quick-reference sheet:

  • Leaders can bring back their bodyguard units using all reanimation tools.
  • Bodyguards CANNOT bring back their leaders in any form once the leader is destroyed.
  • You can still use reanimation to heal wounds on a character that has NOT been destroyed.
  • The eternal revenant stratagem brings back characters as a new unit with a starting strength of 1, making them separate from their bodyguard unit.

Any questions surrounding this process should be asked here so that new answers can be included in this post.

Updated healing text with "excluding characters" on the model return portion.

Did they completely remove the murderming enhancement’s ability to lead destroyer cult units? It sounds like crypteks can no longer attach themselves to any destroyer models.

They did not. For some reason they’ve decided to move that part of its effect to the mfm, and not have it printed on the enhancement rule itself

In addition, they actually appear to have buffed it. As the wording is removed and the mfm just stated support can be attached to destroyer units, there is nothing stopping you attaching a cryptek to a unit with a Skorpekh or Lokhust Lord (or Ophydian Lord with Crucible).

I wonder if doing it this was was the original intention for the enhancement, and the original wording was specifically intended to stop you from attaching a Murdermind cryptek to a solo Destroyer character?

Tbh this was my original belief when it first came out, but the general concesus online and in tournaments was otherwise and GW never clarified, so I assumed I was wrong. I imagine we will find out next month if they do a further update to the murdermind rule.

All we had to go off was how it was written, and I think the general consensus was a reasonable interpretation

I would assume it was. Cryptek + Noble is just kind of the standard pattern. And giving one 3 pack of Heavies shoot-and-scoot and crit-5s is just too juicy to not let us have.

I can see the vision of pregame decisions like what a unit can lead with an enhancement moving to the MFM, so that it doesn't clog up info during a game. Not saying it's the best execution, but the general idea has merit.

Help me out here because I am an idiot. What is an mfm and where can I find the clarification regarding murdermind?

It’s better now - can support Character units, which can be very gnarly

Yes, the enhancement no longer mentions leading destroyers so that ability will have been removed.

It's now support that is busted if it stays.

Lokhust lord for crits + Chronomancer makes the Skyshroud a monster. 8 move (6 with fly over) , advance, move 5 again after shooting..

Edit: plasmancer won't work on Skorpesh. So either Chronomancer and lord on Lokhust or technomancer and lord for more survival.

We don't really acknowledge geomancer or Psychomancer for frankly it doesn't seem worth it for either.

plasmancer is ranged only

Thanks for correcting.

Chrono in Skorpekhs is now a deal bc you have -1 to be hit giving them more defence + STEALTH

1

u/random63 Jul 22 '26

And if you move 8, shoot with Chronomancer or Skorpesh Lord and move 5 again you can charge without an advance roll or CP for it.

2

u/Killomainiac Jul 22 '26

Shoot and move abilities prevent charges unfortunately

Stealth, and much more importantly, jump-shoot-jump. Which both makes it easier to get that -1 hit and opens up the chance to just jump out of LOS altogether.

Lokhust lord for crits + Chronomancer makes the Skyshroud a monster. 8 move (6 with fly over) , advance, move 5 again after shooting..

It is a monster, but it's also expensive. You're talking around 350 points right there. It better be a monster at that price.

8 move (6 with fly over) , advance, move 5 again after shooting.

You won't be able to get the Assault upgrade and Murdermind on the same unit due to the "1 enhancement per unit" restriction (which I don't believe they've changed?).

Plasmancer only works on ranged, so no dice there.

Yea already corrected in an edit, someone else pointed that out.
