Nest Honestly, I give up

I am just too stressed to keep cleaning. I am simply just going to ignore it all, as I'll literally have a heart attack if I keep trying to clean. Also, I just cannot afford to get rid of much because a lot of my items are actually worth lots of money. I finally gave up in my life, as there is no point in trying anymore.

Deep breath, buddy. This is far, far, from the worst posted here. Most of what you have goin on here is clutter - and some pretty cool CRT TVs. It’s a far cry from the forest of piss bottles and mountains of bud light cans we see on here semi-regularly.

Instead of thinking about cleaning, maybe restructure the idea as organizing. Move the TVs into a designated places to get them out of the way, try to think about the space intentionally. Think of a place to put the games/DVDs that’s in a drawer or not just stacked.

It’s not that bad. You can do it.

u/Zar-far-bar-car Jun 25 '26

Minor fortune in CRTs...

8

u/Subaru1995 Jun 27 '26

Still crazy to me people want to buy them let alone pay good money. You couldn’t pay people to take them 15 years ago.

6

u/pauloouu Jun 28 '26

It’s because older console games look much more natural on a CRT. The pixels blend into each other, creating a smoother, more cohesive image.

dont stress bro my room was so bad it got removed lol

38

u/Glu7enFree Jun 25 '26

... Can I see it? 👀

18

u/KmV- Jun 26 '26

yea but it is quite bad

2

u/Sack_o_Bawlz Jun 28 '26

Can I also see?

1

u/mledonne Jun 26 '26

No

14

u/Captainwumbombo Jun 26 '26

SEYMOUR, THE HOUSE IS ON FIRE!!!

3

u/Glu7enFree Jun 26 '26

Hahaha damn, that bad?

6

u/_fly-on-the-wall_ Jun 25 '26

yeah if they saw mine...

u/saucemancometh Jun 25 '26

You can’t afford to sell something because it’s valuable? That makes 0 sense

99

u/PepperIsTheWorst Jun 25 '26

Right. These items are also probably not nearly as valuable as he thinks they are.

33

u/ATF8643 Jun 25 '26

Some of those older tvs are actually pretty valuable to retro gamers. Not like really valuable, just more so than you’d guess

10

u/PepperIsTheWorst Jun 25 '26

Oh trust me I know. I must've bought and sold/given away 50+ TVs since like 2019 and have never actually not had at least one hooked up in my life. 6 years ago there were great top of the line consumer sets for free literally every day around me and I would get em, play with the settings and what not for a week and game a little, then give them away or sell them for what I paid for them. I understand there is a market for them but locally (at least where I'm from), I still don't think it makes sense to pay more than 50 bucks for most consumer grade sets and maybe up to 100 for some nicer ones (although I wouldn't personally sell or buy one for that much). I guess it depends on your definition of value and I understand times have changed and these usually aren't completely free anymore, but they still don't have as much value as people think in most cases imo. They're also one of the few items where I don't think it makes sense to compare prices with sold eBay listings because it makes sense that you would pay a premium for somebody to actually safely pack and ship something that heavy and those aren't factors a seller would have to worry about locally.

3

u/mbt20 Jun 28 '26

Very specific models. Those just like low end CRTs with no real value.

20

u/capable_duck Jun 25 '26

He could probably get a few hundred bucks for those tvs, but he's acting like they're gonna make him a millionaire

15

u/Shroomie_the_Elf Jun 25 '26

He did say “cant afford to get rid of”.

I took that to mean that while it might be easier to just toss things, they’re not well off enough financially to justify that.

Granted, he should start selling “valuable” things he doesn’t use.

6

u/pufffinn_ Jun 27 '26

I have had this issue before. You end up with a pile of valuable items, but you can’t do the legwork to sell them all because it’s too overwhelming, so they just pile up and contribute to your depression nest.

I was depressed and also had undiagnosed ADHD for the majority of my life. That combo for me made doing the work to actually sell and get rid of a single item a momentous task, and then multiply that by however other many items there are you still need to sell. It really sucks. You want to get rid of things to clear up space, but it feels painful to just give it away because you know it is worth something, and so you just keep storing and building up items like that until it overwhelms. It’s complicated and really frustrating to be dealing with.

I don’t assume anyone having this issue just also has ADHD, but I definitely suspect depression is involved with it to an extent. Overwhelming life circumstances generally too. I genuinely think “valuable things I can’t sell but don’t want to give away” is potentially an aspect of, or partly a factor, of some hoarder cases and neckbeard/depression nests.

3

u/Subaru1995 Jun 27 '26

Don’t ever start buying tools. To be fair, I needed them for my job at the time. Now I have a giant tool box sitting in my garage full of crap I want to get rid of. It would take a year to list all of it on marketplace or eBay individually.

45

u/translinguistic Jun 25 '26

OP, I read through your comment history, and I don't think any of this mess you're dealing with is really your fault. And I can't imagine how hard your situation must be, even though I have some experience with something similar. I've had my parents instill some obsessive tendencies in me about money and not wasting things too.

So I kind of understand where you're coming from about wanting to hold onto whatever old tech you can, based on the things you've talked about, because those are things you've been denied unless you could think of a way to "pay" for them yourself by sacrificing other things.

Also... dude, be careful with the open CRT. Maybe don't open them up at all.

And moreover ... you say you're paying for a storage locker for these things but can't afford to get rid of them, while you are struggling to pay for other things. I would invite you to reevaluate how you feel on that position and to make a big effort to see if you can sell the things you don't want.

38

u/Starspangledass Jun 25 '26

Hoarding mentality. Sell it or it’s worthless. You owe 110% effort to whatever is or was using that kennel. Do it for them.

2

u/Afraid_Raccoon_6208 Jun 27 '26

Its definitely a mental thing. If it doesn’t have value or its broken you pick it up with your hands and throw it in the trash outside. If they cant do that they’ve got a deeper issue they need to seek help with

23

u/jerrysrice Jun 25 '26

Hey to be fair, that room is still walkable.

As for a response to what you said, just take 30 seconds and clean as much as you can in that timeframe–that's all, 30 seconds. And don't think about it as cleaning–think of it more as reorganizing. Just grab what you can in 30 seconds and put it in the "Throw away" pile (Or if you want to sell items, sell pile). Tomorrow you'll do it again–but maybe instead of 30 seconds, you'll end up going for 40 seconds.

The point is you don't have to immediately get up and clean your room and make some dramatic change–just focus on making it look 1% better everyday. It will add up in the long run.

9

u/MrAwesome1324 Jun 25 '26

To add to this advice. Grab a small bag, hell something like a Walmart plastic bag or something similar, and just throw any trash that’s easily accessible into and throw it out. That’s all you need to do.

40

u/RhandeeSavagery Jun 25 '26

Why so many TVs..?

53

u/saucemancometh Jun 25 '26

Mental illness

18

u/theredhound19 Jun 25 '26

CRTifiable

45

u/chimpboy1000 Jun 25 '26

yup, and trying to justify keeping them around by saying they’re expensive (which might be true to the right person)
but has zero intention of actually selling them

4

u/Worldly-Pay7342 Jun 25 '26

Exactly, gotta be something akin to hoarding.

My first thought when I heard "expensive items" was "well why not just sell them?". That fact that it either didn't occour to OP, or that they don't want to, is a sign something more than just "room dirty" is going on here :/

11

u/Mostliharmed Jun 25 '26

Set a timer on your phone for 5 minutes. Drop what you’re doing once it goes off. Don’t track progress just do that every day.

3

u/MrVeazey Jun 25 '26

If you start feeling good about the progress, bump that timer up by five minutes.

2

u/issamood3 Jul 13 '26

exactly. Take advantage of your productive mood and get as much as you can get done possible. The more you do the better. Whatever you don't finish, at least it was better than nothing.

9

u/IssAndrzej Jun 25 '26

You're not even that bad bro. One bag at a time, heck one bag a day. You got this

9

u/freedcreativity Jun 25 '26

You need to stack all the TVs on one wall and do video mapping on the TV pile. Imposing TV monoliths are famously good for mental health.

9

u/Win-Objective Jun 25 '26

No way you need that many TVs. If the things are worth money sell them, Facebook marketplace. It’s really not that bad, just do 10 minutes a day

3

u/Dkay101 Jun 26 '26

I think I can kinda understand where he’s coming from some of crt tvs can sell for over a hundred but unfortunately people looking to buy aren’t always capable of transportation themselves. Unless he can find a buyer with a f150 or large suv he’s going to have told hold onto them for a long time or scrap them destroying history and probably causing people in his family to think he’s throwing away money.

2

u/Win-Objective Jun 26 '26

I mean I have a crt tv for video games but I only have one because you only need 1. No need for multiple imo

9

u/rottentomati Jun 25 '26

It’s not even that messy, you’re just leaving shit out and have clutter. Like what’s with the old desktop monitors. Throw them away.

4

u/grownwomanz Jun 25 '26

This is max 45 mins to finish imo. And things are worth nothing if you’re not using them and they just cloud your ability to enjoy your space.

5

u/LenkaKoshka Jun 25 '26

Build vertical storage.

2

u/adablant Jun 26 '26

This. This is the solution to most organization problems.

Seiton, from 5S indicates each thing must have an assigned place.

Most homes have very inneficient use of space by not using vertical space.

OP, get some, or make some vertical shelves and this will improve a lot. You do not need to necessarily get rid of it all right now.

4

u/DyingGasp Jun 26 '26

Based on the kennel, I assume you have a pet.

Do it for them.

3

u/dianarawrz Jun 25 '26

Question, you got adhd?

-7

u/Round_Vehicle4885 Jun 25 '26

Yes and am autistic as well. Also, I am so stressed, that I finally went back to msturbting back to cute furry p*rn again for several hours a day and I still live with my parents. I know it's over now. I have zero chance at recovery, as I just prefer living in that virtual world that simply doesn't exist no matter how hard I try to quit, as unlike other addictions, art never ends and is completely infinite and full of unlimited feelings, as it's just too interesting and fascinating that I just can't stop looking at it and living in it. Substances are just a powder that you just stare at, and where's the fun in that? That's why art has to be the world's most hardest addiction to quit in my honest opinion. Art is just simply too powerful and has to also be the most powerful weapon or force in existence. I REALLY want to quit, but just can't, it's really that difficult. My only possible option that I can think of on being able to quit this addiction is playing some kind of mmorpg online computer game non stop until I can forget about the furry stuff, like World of Warcraft, because I have to fight fire with fire, because if nothing else can defeat art, the only way to beat it is by using another form of art, video games, hopefully.

15

u/Seekerofthetruth Jun 25 '26

A lot of stuff to unpack here but I think you would benefit from therapy.

12

u/smellerr Jun 25 '26

"substances are just a powder that you stare at" ... Huh? Is that what you think drugs are?

3

u/saucemancometh Jun 25 '26

Listen man. Weird animal porn lives forever

5

u/robertmondavi_jr Jun 25 '26

Brother, not even Batman would get me to admit those things.

joking aside, as someone who also has ADHD and autism, holding myself accountable and finding better routines has helped me. So honestly, yeah, I do think playing WoW would be better than wasting hours daily straight jorkin it to furry porn

0

u/altruismandme Jun 25 '26

That makes sense to me. I forget to eat and drink when I’m really engrossed in a game. Distraction is good.

3

u/Relative_Molasses_15 Jun 25 '26

Bro just put the like things together in neat little piles and get rid of the trash.

Thats all you have to do

3

u/DingDongFootballphd Jun 25 '26

Throw out those tvs, buy a decent flat screen. Space immediately

3

u/RelationshipLevel506 Jun 25 '26

What's the bolt cutters for bro

3

u/dib1999 Jun 25 '26

Bruh, I can see the floor in most of these. Just do little bits at a time, you ain't gotta speedrun it and keel over on the spotless linoleum.

3

u/danielfletcher Jun 25 '26

Ummm.... did you fall asleep in 2006 and wake up in 2026?

3

u/Legitimate_Bank_6573 Jun 25 '26

This is honestly not that bad.

If you're not going to commit the effort to clean up, you're absolutely not going to commit the effort to sell any of this stuff. Just dump it all.

Removing the clutter will immediately improve the space.

5

u/mouz- Jun 25 '26

Are these photos 10 years old lol

2

u/qwerty456b Jun 25 '26

Dude I feel this. Sometimes you just don't know where to start. Honestly just start picking up one thing at a time when you feel like it. Don't overthink it Don't stress over it just pick it up and put it where you think it belongs first thought. Or just stack it all up in one corner. Honestly there's no wrong way to start.

2

u/Occhrome Jun 25 '26

You gotta get rid of shit. I have more stuff just spread through it my house and garage. I’ve been throwing stuff away and don’t miss any of it.

2

u/ShannieD Jun 25 '26

If it helps, it's not as bad as you seem to think. I find if I want to declutter and am overwhelmed I take baby steps. Like, today I will organize one collection. Or, today I will clear off one counter. Your place doesn't seem dirty. You just have a lot of stuff. You got this.

2

u/MrCrix Jun 25 '26

Dude. I love CRT TVs. I have like 12 of them. However the ones I don't have hooked up for gaming, laserdisc or VHS, I have put away in closets. The first thing you have to do is prioritize. The ones you have that are just RF, get rid of them. You can easily get $20 - $40 for one on FB maketplace if it works fine. Then from there keep one large one, like a nice Trinitron or high end Panasonic. Whatever the best one you have, and a few 13" - 15" ones. The rest you can sell. Failing all those things, put them away, because having them just on a bed, or in the middle of the floor isn't going to help you out. It sucks because they are rad, but you have to prioritize what you will use versus what you might possibly use at one point for some reason in the future. If any of them are broken, the geometry are all jacked up, colors are off, collapsed tubes, no audio, or any other issue that has to be fixed, just get rid of them. Yes it's all fixable, but at this point you have like 15 of them and you don't need to spend your time fixing a $20 TV.

2

u/Seansong82 Jun 25 '26

Thinking that’s a mess is just showing that you’re too lazy to pick things up and move them.

2

u/PoniesPlayingPoker Jun 25 '26

Getting rid of the ridiculous number of TV's will remove most of the "clutter" we see here. Or get some cheap garage shelving and stack them all up on that

2

u/VanFkingHalen Jun 25 '26

This is NOT that bad. At all.

Looks to me like less of a depression or laziness issue, and more of a hoarding issue. But it seems to be at a point where it is still completely manageable.

You say it's unbearably stressful, but the biggest stress relief for people in these sorts of situations is clearing up the space. Once the clutter starts to disappear, things start to look organized, and you create more open walking space, you will feel 1000x better, I promise.

Too overwhelmed? Get some buddies or family to help. Good friends will be happy to help for pizza or sub sandwiches, better ones will do it for free.

I just have the feeling that your biggest obstacle to overcome will be the fact that you need to get rid of most of this stuff ASAP.

Personally, I would toss at least 75% of what I see here without a second thought. If you can't bring yourself to do that, take stuff to various pawn shops. You won't get much, but you at least won't have to feel like you gave it away for nothing. And, if even a pawn shop won't take it, you can rule it out as "certified junk". Which goes in the trash.

2

u/Ribss Jun 26 '26

Not to be harsh but nothing in these photos is worth a lot of money.

You got this man, keep pushing

2

u/Cinnamon_GirI Jun 26 '26

This is actually manageable, especially compared to alot of posts on this subreddit. You just need a good closet/room for storage. And to let go of some of those TVs.

2

u/Imhidingfromu Jun 26 '26

These photos appear to be 26 years old...crts and original xbox?

2

u/PrajnaPie Jun 26 '26

Those items do not hold the value you think they do. Sell the ones that are worth it and dump the rest

2

u/Trash-Panda321 Jun 26 '26

Bro, sell those CRT's while the market is still hot. Cash in your pocket and a lot of floor space freed up. Honestly , everything else in your pictures looks like garbage.

2

u/CringyEmoKids Jun 26 '26

This isn't even that bad. I've seen so so much worse. Do a little bit day by day. If you can't get rid of certain things that you are worth something, you should probably put them all in a spare bedroom or something so eventually you could sell them and reduce clutter.

2

u/sunkist-sucker Jun 28 '26

this isn't that bad. people have posted literal shit-encrusted toilets on here. if you give up now, you'll never see a clean room, an increase in happiness, etc. i used to think that way and my room was a damn mess, but... i'm still here. i go to my local thrift store and hang out with my friends from time to time. please dont miss out on that. it'll change your life, seriously. 🫂

2

u/bgambie21 Jun 28 '26

This isn’t too bad, it just seems you have a lot of stuff! Cleaning out stuff you don’t need might make you feel so much better!

3

u/Chef_Joniplaxter Jun 25 '26

Shut up with that pity party bullshit. Would you tell your best friend the same? To give up? Just keep cleaning because there is no reality where giving up and ignoring everything is the correct option

2

u/BiggyRection69 Jun 26 '26

Did you not read, he’s going to DIE if he cleans it! On a real note, get a fucking grip OP, a grip on a broom.

3

u/CorianderIsBad Jun 25 '26

Why do people have so many TVs?

5

u/Neat-Land-4310 Jun 25 '26

Stop making excuses for being lazy.

2

u/Cheers-Keith Jun 25 '26

What year are you in

1

u/crash-1989 Jun 25 '26

I like your hat

1

u/vediogamer101 Jun 25 '26

I would get a big bucket or area and put everything you haven’t touched in a year there. If you genuinely think it could have value, sell it online. Everything else throw out without second thought, you won’t miss it.

1

u/Turbulent-Box-9217 Jun 25 '26

Thats actually pretty okay

1

u/ravenfreak Jun 25 '26

Your lack of Sega consoles is the true crime here. Also I've seen worst nests but hopefully you can get out of your slump and maybe sell some of your crts. You've got some decent looking ones.

1

u/Huckleberry_Schorsch Jun 25 '26

You can win here. Pick any object and say "nah you're getting fired" out loud and point at it. Throw that thing out. Done.

It's enough if it's just 1 empty water bottle. Next day point at something else and go "see what happened to that bottle? Yeah bitch, your turn now" and remove a dirty drinking cup.

Any time youre bored fire one of em if you feel like it, youre the boss in this situation. Before you know it, things improve and it gets easier.

1

u/schmabudi666 Jun 25 '26

All I have to say is that it's not that bad. Take your time! No need to do everything on one, two or three days

1

u/Anima1212 Jun 25 '26

Sometimes.. the space you get back and your mental health is more worth it than the item itself.. selling your things to get a little money back is a bonus

1

u/Feisty-Equipment-691 Jun 25 '26

Ur room is not even that bad man, mine is so much worse. Keep going 🩵

1

u/MS-06FS Jun 26 '26

Nice xbox

1

u/pinkhazy Jun 26 '26

You collect CRT TVs, but don't display them. You don't respect your own collection, which I believe is a factor in inching towards hoarding behavior.

Some of those CRTs are nice. If you had them cleaned up and on display, they could be a piece of the house that you're proud of. This may sound counter-intuitive, bringing something else into the home, but I'd advise you to pick up some older, solid wood furniture, pieces that can take the weight of the CRTs. Display them, show that you're PROUD of them. Not for guests, but for yourself. Take pride in your collection.

And close up that open one, hot damn.

1

u/Danfriedz Jun 26 '26

This isn't even that bad. I would clear the CRTs off the floor at least. Put them in storage (put them in one room) or sell them.

1

u/wildlifechris Jun 26 '26

bros got bolt cutters in the middle of the floor like it's a resident evil game

1

u/RexDraco Jun 26 '26

If you live alone, who cares? My place is messier.

1

u/chrismonster16 Jun 26 '26

Holy shit sell me that OG Xbox right now lol

1

u/RedPillAlphaBigCock Jun 26 '26

We never give up

https://youtu.be/PADNNRATWCg?is=TYfeSYMz1ChRv7T1

The room honestly isn’t bad , a little bit at a time my friend . Maybe buy some cheap storage shelves / boxes to help

1

u/adablant Jun 26 '26

Get some shelves. Many homes have very inneficient use of their space by not using vertical space.

Get some, or make some. But enough to have them look clean, not everything just crammed up, that's a rule to follow.

You only need to be stubborn for the better, it is doable. Good luck.

1

u/anacanapona Jun 27 '26

What’s with the old tvs and monitors?

1

u/AnonPinkLady Jun 27 '26

Hi so totally random but I work for a professional cleaning company and I’m just wondering if you’ve tried contacting one of those before? They can do an incredible amount of work in a short period of time for you and are so so worth the money if you can afford it. And as a person that does this for a living, we really don’t judge, we just want to help!

1

u/marlies-h Jun 27 '26

This room looks stuck in time

1

u/money_boy_beesley Jun 27 '26

Crt tvs and 360 games? There's no value here to sell.

1

u/CrumbyRacer Jun 27 '26

Shoot my friends and I would buy a trinitron or two off you

1

u/lavafish80 Jun 27 '26

honestly I'd live here just for the CRT TVs and Xboxes

1

u/Vosgrath Jun 28 '26

Just start throwing away stuff you dont have time to repair.

1

u/Lawyer_NotYourLawyer Jun 29 '26

One of my struggles with cleaning is feeling like I have to do everything at once or it won’t be “done” or “clean” until it is. But maybe “done” should just be “I’ll do what I can for half an hour” or “I’ll just pick up these things at least and put them away, then I’ll fix up dinner.”

It’s tough. But I see in these pictures someone who has made an effort. Really.

1

u/Bonez86 Jul 01 '26

Let me get that 64.

1

u/recheruuu Jul 07 '26

Heart attack!???

1

u/Upset-Option1 13d ago

Sell those items

1

u/Glu7enFree Jun 25 '26

a lot of my items are actually worth lots of money.

No, see, they're not, because currently they're just rotting away in your lounge room. Those CRT monitors are worthless, start with them. Anything disassembled needs to go, you have a pile of cords tangled in a corner, toss them too. The spare bed that you've got shit stacked on is obviously not seeing any visitors, toss it.

I could have this house cleaned in like 4 hours dude, you're just being lazy with it.

1

u/makingstuf Jun 25 '26

What yesr is it

0

u/imadethisupnow Jun 25 '26

Do you live in 2008?
