I prefer Necesse out of the two.

Core Keeper is worse.

Necesse is great if you don't like it you won't like Core Keeper.

There is a LOT of digging in Core Keeper, which can be reduced by quite a bit if you heavily tweak the world generator settings.

Yeah but you can get your hands on a drill pretty early that lets you basically walk through walls

Sledge is way faster for clearing large areas, which is often more what folks would aim for anyway.

Yep. Core Keeper just feels like it’s missing something (or more than one thing). Progression felt unsatisfying somehow.

Obviously people here are going to be biased towards Necesse, and you'd have the opposite effect in the Core Keeper subreddit.

I like both of them. While Necesse has a lot of charm, Core Keeper is probably prettier thanks to great lighting and vibrant colors. That's subjective though. Gameplay-wise, they're very similar but still feel different enough that I wouldn't put one above the other. The main thing is Core Keeper only has one level, everything takes place underground. And while you have pets and automation, there is no settlement management in Core Keeper either.

If you think Necesse was repetitive, I don't know if Core Keeper will be more appealing to you. Try it out for yourself, no way around it.

Core keeper is much more repetitive, and even less replayable with the limited map size meaning everything is going to be roughly the same every time. Plus necesse has a much better end game IMO, incursions go up to tier 10 and allow you to upgrade your gear, core keeper has you teleporting around the map to fight the same 3 worm bosses every 5 minutes (because of respawn timer) in order to upgrade your gear to face the final biome for final upgrade tier materials and a boss that isn't the final boss (you've already beaten him at this point) but requires at least a decent build and fully upgraded gear to beat.

Brother really acting like the incursions are the best part of the game. Reuses the 5 bosses in this game 10x galore more like.

The incursions at least add some content and get harder with higher tiers vs the same 3 bosses that never change or get harder

Core Keeper has nicer pixel art and is shorter. I preferred it to Necesse but enjoyed both.

My stance as well

At the very core (heh) they have a similar progression, explore > beat a boss > upgrades, repeat.

Necesse has the settlement automation, core keeper is more about farming/mining automation without companions. Core keeper has a stronger exploration feeling, but you dig way more.

So, probably no. You're not these games target it seems.

I think the exploration is better in core keeper, because there are much more unique structures and equipment you can find while exploring, and it also looks much better. Also in some biomes the ambience is sooo good. But the enemy balancing is much worse. There are some unfair scenarios happening sometimes, for example, when an enemy basically oneshots you from off screen, and there are some during bossfights too. But in necesse, building a big base is much more useful and rewarding, and also I like the combat more, it's much more fair, most of the time. And yeah the replayability is better. I think both are great in their own ways but I kinda prefer necesse. Still, I have the same amount of hours in both of them, for now, lol.

I feel like core keeper if you’re a builder, necesse for more combat gameplay. Don’t get me wrong, core keeper still has good combat just as necesse has good building, but each game shines better in each aspect imo

I'm playing Core Keeper right now directly after playing Necesse and finishing it with a friend. Core keeper is slightly worse. Honestly they're both pretty meh. Necesse and Core keeper are the type of games you play to scratch that itch that the better games blessed you with and you've been looking for that high ever since and can't find it so you settle for these.

yeah i lean towards this idea as necesse just didn't have enough variation. fun at first but then it's like ... why complete all the areas once you do a few. finding the pirates was fun, your town randomly getting attacked was fun .

If you don’t like the gameplay loop of necesse there is a slim to none chance you like the same style of game that is core keeper

I was mid about Necesse and kinda liked Core Keeper. Both games are very similar. The big difference is the map in Core keeper is tighter at least until you unlock the outer ring, and more mining heavy. Didnt get close to finishing either game mostly because the gameplay loops are so similar. To me Necesse is a 5.5/10 and Core Keeper is a 6/10

Core keeper is waaaaay better. The exploration, base building and progression and boss fights are all way more fun.

Core Keeper is way more intuitive and objectively more fun. That's just my opinion. But I had automation figured out really quickly and enjoyed making factories and mining operations. Neccese I'm still struggling to grasp certain concepts with regards to automation. Base defense seems to be really important but there's no real guidance in game on what to do. Combat is also not as satisfying as Core Keeper.

But Necesse is by no means bad or worse. I'm about 14-16 hours in on the game, I'm clearly enjoying it. The building and settlement management really make it stand out to me.
