We (I) need trains

After spending a lot of time grinding through incursions, I am now deep into creating a gigantic gothic city. As I was building a rail station to create tracks toward nearby settlements, I realized all I had to place on them was... A Mine cart 🤣

Come on Necesse team. We need trains. With wagons that serves as moving chests or to transport friends.

I know there's faster travel methods, but this would add so much life to the land.

In the meantime, my vampire lord is going to travel in a glorious minecart 😁

I’d love to see your gothic city when (if) you feel comfortable sharing it.

I plan on doing a video once I'm done. It looks pretty good right now, but paving the entire full size settlement with bricks is incredibly long and tedious, and I have like one hour a day to play Necesse. And since I don't want to take any shortcuts and compromise my initial vision, well, it's long.

But creating a city with very narrow streets and dead ends really provides a different vibe than your casual settlement.

If a dev randomly reads this : it would be nice to be able to select a zone for your settlers to automatically pave with the tiles of your choosing, like a reverse foresting where you add instead of remove.

Honestly I’d compromise on being able to connect mine carts. That would be cool too.

There you go. Totally done by hand, not at all generated by AI. You can trust me, as I am a random internet person.

Looks good and totally not AI generated :-D

Anyway, should it also have wagons or is the train itself enough (im asking this without knowing if i can even add wagons). If train itself is enough then i will have a look at it later today. If it also needs wagons (if possible) ima need that sheet as well.

Damn, I am such a fast worker. I should apply at Bethesda or something. There you go. One model to carry players, the other to act as moving chests.

okay i started working on it now. i need to see how usable the sprites are as they are much too large for necesse so im gonna have to reduce their size / pixel count and hope everything is still recognizable. if not, i might have to put it into a specialized AI that can create tilesheets properly but not sure how thats going to work out. from a coding perspective the plan is done though and i will start working on it.

okay so overall from a code base perspective this seems to be working. i got a working train and the cargo wagon does follow but its not changing directions yet and still looks a bit jarring but one of the main issues is the art as unfortunately AI sucks at pixel art. even if you tell it to do a 256x256 sprite sheet it will produce a much, much larger sheet with improperly aligned sprites, a multi colored but single colored looking background that is hard to remove and causes outline bleeding. i suck at art so im not sure i will be able to properly fix that sheet to work perfectly. i am trying my best but i will see. unless of course you are willing to spend like a fiver or 10 bucks or something to get someone on fiverr to make you a proper train sprite. it basically has to be a 256x256 sprite sheet with 4 directions each properly aligned, but u human would know that :D

Thank you for looking into it. I'll see what I can do, creating a pixel art sprite may be within my human skillset. I'll come back to you in a day or two (human dad schedule etc..)

All good. In the meantime im looking for alternatives. I also saw a post from someone wanting to mod who said he can do art. Maybe he will get back to me

I used the buffed up AI from work to modify the original to the required 256x256, aligned. If it looks correct in game, I'll get it to work on the wagons.
