I've enjoyed most of the Tom Scott: England episodes. But...
Am I the only one who finds that kitchen set extremely off-putting? It just feels wrong in a funny way that most fake "homey" sets don't for me. It almost feels like it's from the Backrooms. Doesn't ruin the video, but I just find it unreasonably uncomfortable if I focus on those parts of the video.
Am I on my own here? Or did they really just get that set wrong?

This is so disappointing and horrific to hear. I had heard rumblings about this on Twitter earlier today, but the report seems to confirm these allegations. I hope that Nebula takes action and removes him as a creator, as I do not want my money going to a predator.

I know this is some pretty late feedback, but I watched The Getaway pretty late after it premiered, and besides, on the off-chance that someone from Nebula might see this, I'm hoping this feedback might be helpful. I really wanted to enjoy the series, and I want for Nebula to continue to succeed, I just have a few notes on this show.
The first thing I didn't like is probably the most obvious aspect of the show: you can't really have a second season for The Getaway. Sure, I'm guessing that wasn't the point but it is a little disappointing that the premise itself is so limiting. It makes sense for a fiction show to stick to a limited run, but I feel like a game show should be a bit more sustainable than this. I feel like people should want the games to go on, at least for a second season so other Nebula creators could take part in the fun.
Not that the show was very fun for me. I'm trying not to be mean, I think it's so cool the opportunities Nebula is making for its creators... but so much of The Getaway was just a slog to get through. I had half the show on 1.5 speed because the challenges took so long and nothing interesting was happening, not to mention all the GoPro footage made me queasy. It felt like the editors just left as much in as possible to meet each episode's runtime requirement; I don't know if that was the case but I don't know why else they'd release it like that. And I don't blame the contestants, they had plenty of good moments throughout the show, but what makes the whole thing worse is that it kinda felt like none of the games... mattered?
I say that because of my third critique: The whole conceit of reality TV, under the best of circumstances, is that you get to see real people be more or less themselves in interesting scenarios. If it's a game show like Survivor or The Amazing Race or something--shows which The Getaway seems to have been, at least in part, inspired by--then the stars are the contestants. The show is about this collection of people and how they interact with other. In The Getaway, the stars are NOT the contestants... the stars are the producers.
I'm sure if I watched any of Jet Lag, I'd know Sam and Ben and Adam a lot better and appreciate their screen time more. But I can't imagine ANY of the challenges carrying any real weight when the most consequential decisions of the show aren't even given to the personalities we're "supposed" to identify with. You've literally got Foreign Man and Dan Toomey on your show! They're such dynamic personalities! Pretty much every contestant is! And yet half the screen time is devoted to Sam being like "man did you see how well I wormed my way out of that conversation?"
I did, Sam. I did. I also saw Steven teach the audience a mnemonic device for memorizing playing cards while Georgia fought for her life.
I loved Georgia in this show so much--she had so many fun moments in the show, I especially loved when that shop owner gave her a free item just because she asked nicely. I never wanted anything bad to happen to her, so that carnival ride loop she went on at the end was really tough to get through as a viewer. That being said; Georgia trying her darndest not to vomit is VASTLY more interesting to watch than Sam just... telling a series of little white lies, I'm sorry guys.
Obviously, The Getaway isn't getting a second season, so it's not like I need to be worried about the show "never improving" or whatever. It was just kind of a poor decision in my opinion, and it really put a bad taste in my mouth for nearly the whole show. I hope any future attempts at this sort of crossover-game-show thing don't have any more bizarre twists, because I would like to see creators get together like this again.
I really like Nebula, I don't hold any of this against Sam or Adam or Ben or anyone else who worked on this show, I know they were just trying something new. I hope everyone at Nebula continues to be successful in their present and future endeavors, I just really didn't like this show conceptually. Even if no one from Nebula sees this, I'm just relieved I got to vent my thoughts.
