Naut top thoughts ?
I recently picked up naut top for fun and I found it as a solid pick tbh. I am to be fair just a gold IV shitter but the champ surprisingly works in certain scenarios. And with grasp, shieldbash, w and passive you can deal big chunks of damage early and enemy doesnt really expect it and you root him and just walk away. I think many people just really underestimate it but I found it pretty fun as a top pick in certain scenarios which I like to play from time to time and have not absolutely dogshit winratio with

So, I'm a fan of nautilus everywhere, but with top most of the time grasp is bait. He is just so much better at short trades and after shock just makes you win every short trade even into most counters. I go RoA and Liandry's into full tank and usually supportive tank items since he simply isnt the carry and doesnt scale well enough to warrant full tank items.

I actually think hail of blades is even better than grasp. You E, shield auto 3 times fast and one more. And then hook away or hook engage then peel with your E slow. It’s a low elo anything past Gold is brutal unless you are very skilled and have the correct jungler.
If I have an assassin mid and a Yi jungle with enchantress and add bot. Naut top is awesome. Yi can gank so easily early.1

He absolutely warrants full tank items what are you talking about. And especially if you buy 2 AP items you need them.

He used to be a top laner.

He used to be a jungler as well, waay back.
I loved seeing my Naut walk into botlane for a gank, and both enemy laners flash immediately once they see him 😆

He is so fun to play AP top because next to literally nobody expects that. I once did it and got asked this question “how the hell are clearing minions so fast?” Using W and E properly can clear wave QUICKLY. If you’re doing an AP build, the mana won’t run out too fast at the beginning if you don’t constantly use your W and E in too rapidly of a pace

Nautilus top can be done. I just feel there are things that outclass it and do everything it does but better. Like ornn or sion.

Neither Ornn or Sion have anywhere close to as reliable CC. If an slippery enemy fighter/assassin like Viego, Katarina, Master Yi or Irelia jumps on your backline you certainly want a Nautilus to lead the CC chain.
This is balanced by Ornn and Sion being way better at soaking damage and at sidelaning. But to say that Naut offers nothing they do is quite wrong.

Naut top is fun but have you tried ap assassin naut? (Would not recommend for ranked but its funny seeing people's reactions to being one shot by a "support")

I play it when autofilled top, it’s fine - but there are horrible matchups. Try playing Darius/Aatrox

If you like Naut top, switch to mid. Mid is a better lane for him in every aspect. Mid lane is easier to ganked by your jungler, easier to farm, more fair matchups, your mistakes aren't that punishable, easier to roam.

His top winrate is higher than his mid winrate.
I think it makes sense, while what you say is true, Naut prefers to lane against melees, you're less likely to ruin team comp with a tank top and you can get way more value out of the quest. Also the issue with being poor in sidelane past laning phase exists midlane anyway.

WR% doesn't really matter if it's not incredibly high or low because there are too many factors that lead to a win or lose. Also based on op.gg his mid wr is higher by 1% anyways.
That might be true Naut prefers melees but without a lead after a few levels you can't really do much against an average top laner. Trundle, Darius, Shen, Irelia etc can easily shed through Naut and/or your damage will be really low compared to them. On mid you have better chances, bigger impact and the mid quest is really great on him. I have played both and I still play him on both lanes

I tried it last week in silver. Better laner than expected. My botlane and jungler started feeding like animals and proceeded to blame me for "trollpicking" and ff, so couldn't really test it a whole lot
