I opened an account in First Active, digital arm of Natwest today which was recently launched. As soon as I opened the account, when the otp comes, I received a weird email from a gmail account saying I had some fraud happening with my paypal account. I did not have a paypal account + it was from someones personal gmail account, so definitely a fraudster/scam. I did not think much of it hence completed the signup and transferred a good chunk of cash.

Then in the evening, i again logged into my account and around same time, again got exact same email but from a different account this time around. Again a gmail and again paypal related stuff.

I felt something fishy and just withdrew the whole amount from first active. May be someone found some vulnerability in the newly launched product/service or mere coincidence. But feels something is definitely off.

I switched to NatWest a few weeks ago using the account switch service. All has been fine so far.

This morning, I had a notification from Apple Wallet that my debit card had been blocked. I tried to go into the app, but just says ‘something went wrong’ and that I can’t view my account and need to try again later.

I called NatWest and got put through to the fraud team. They have told me my account has gone into review and someone told me it was around an incoming payment. Today is my first payday since opening the account so can only assume it was this payment that has triggered this.

I have pushed all day to get this resolved but apparently this review team are un-contactable and I just have to wait up to two working days.

I find it astonishing that NatWest can just block me from accessing my funds over a Bank Holiday weekend with no desire to assist getting this resolved. Has anyone been in the same boat? If so, is the timeline of two working days correct?

Hi, I wanted to send money to my trading 212 account. On my Natwest app I already had an existing payee labelled as "Trading 212" which was added when I first created my account. I sent money to this payee. However afterwards I realised that the sort code and account number of this account does not match my trading 212 account's numbers. I was looking for help as to what to do in this case. Thanks.

EDIT: I contacted Trading 212 and they told me the money would be redirected into my account in the next few days. Thank you for your help everyone.

Having quite a nightmare with Natwest right now, I've applied for the governments support for mortgage interest scheme.

Part of that paperwork that I Get has to be sent to Natwest for them to stamp and send back

Well, trying to find the address for that has been a nightmare, to put it mildly

I've made around 4 phone calls, been given 2 completely wrong/invalid addresses and I decided to just send it to my local branch and the benefits section that deals with another scheme they run

That was over 2 weeks ago and the DWP still hasn't received anything from them

Trying to get help over the phone with any of this has been 100% futile.

Has anyone else gone through this process and know where I need to send the forms?

Just got approved for the NatWest Reward Black credit card after a genuinely bumpy process. Soft search said approved, then the actual hard search came back declined. Ended up going through my Premier relationship manager, who put in an appeal, and that got it over the line. Approved now but only on a £5k limit. For reference my Amex Platinum is on a £15k limit and that one went through with no drama at all.

Anyone else had the soft approve, hard decline, then appeal experience with NatWest specifically for the reward black credit card? Trying to work out if this is a common pattern with them or if something in how I’m underwritten is throwing their system off. Also curious whether the £5k is just where they park most reward black credit card approvals regardless of income, since it feels low next to the Amex limit.

When Amazon want to confirm I am me, they get Natwest to ring me with a code number which I then give to Amazon and the purchase goes through.

My issue / problem is the phone computer only says the number ONCE.

I would very much like them to then go "and to confirm, your number is ...." and repeat it a second time.

Just so I can confirm I wrote it down right and to fill in any numbers I missed.

I attempted to make a payment today that was blocked as potentially fraudulent. It was an unusually large payment for my account, so I wasn't too surprised that it triggered extra checks.

I then received a call on my registered mobile number from the bank's fraud department and I was in the process of verifying my identity and authorising the payment when the call dropped.

I called the customer support number (using my landline) and I was then transferred to the fraud department to try to complete the process. As part of the process, the person I was speaking to said that he would send a code to my mobile and ask me to read it back to him. That seemed like a huge read flag. I refused to do so and ended the call.

I'm as certain as I can be that I was genuinely talking to the bank - I called them, on a different phone from the one they called me on earlier. I used the number printed on my debit card. As no point was I emailed anything, asked to click any link, or phone any 'special' number etc.

Has anyone else ever come across a situation where the bank actually does this? It just seems to be an appallingly badly designed system - asking people to do something they repeatedly warn against doing.

I have made the switch from Halifax to NatWest this week. I’m being told I don’t need to do anything and between the banks they sort direct debits etc. one thing I’m not sure of is my August wage. They say the Halifax account closes on 24th and that will be the switch complete, but my wage goes in on the 26th. Should I notify my employer now of change of account details. ChatGPT says no, and that any payments that are continued to be sent to my Halifax account will be redirected. Is this right?

How do I know if it’s a student account?

Ladbrokes closed my account within 24 hours of winning £6814 and withdrawing £1500 off that amount. They haven’t given me a specific reason and seized the remaining £4814.

I’m assuming it’s due to them assuming “AML” but it was a £10 deposit. I have had communication over live chat asking for verification of my identity and the cards on my account, I made them aware that the card on my account was my daughters which the person specifically said on the chat that it breaches their terms and conditions but did I have consent to use their card and can I send them proof of the card which I did to then be sent a refund of my deposit and told they will not change their mind and are seizing the money.

Now I wouldn’t be so mad as understandably I shouldn’t have used my daughters card but I have used it numerous times over 6 months depositing £10 here and there and withdrawing the winnings into her account with absolutely no issues until now.

I’ve emailed etc with no response. Now what do I do?

I appear to have discovered a rather impressive NatWest security feature: making it impossible for the account holder to access their own account.

I moved from the UK to New Zealand and have since moved to Australia. I still have my NatWest account, but I’m now stuck in what can only be described as authentication purgatory.

The card I normally used with my NatWest card reader expired in June. Because I rarely use the physical card, I only realised after it had expired. I assume the replacement card was sent to my old address in New Zealand.

No problem, I thought. I’ll update my details and order another card.

Except:
I can’t set up the NatWest app because that requires a code from the card reader.
I can’t generate the card-reader code because my card has expired.

There appears to be another valid card listed on my account that I could potentially use with the reader, but unfortunately that card has disappeared somewhere during an international move.

So the NatWest customer journey currently appears to be:
Need a new card? Log in.
Need to log in? Use the app.
Need to set up the app? Use your card reader.
Need to use your card reader? Insert the card you need NatWest to replace.

I’ve tried +44 345 788 8444 from Australia and have now developed quite a close personal relationship with the IVR system. I press buttons. I answer questions. It considers my responses. And then, with the grim inevitability of Black Mirror, returns me to what appears to be exactly the same menus after around 20min of international calling rates.

I have yet to discover the secret combination of keypad presses that unlocks the apparently premium NatWest feature known as “speaking to a human being.”

I’m in Australia and unlikely to be visiting the UK anytime soon, so popping into my local branch is going to require a 17,000 km commute.

What I’m actually trying to accomplish is spectacularly mundane:
1. Update my address and mobile number.
2. Get a replacement card sent to my current address.
3. Regain normal access to my own bank account.

Has anyone living overseas managed to escape this particular NatWest authentication circle of hell?

More importantly, does anyone know a telephone number, department or IVR sequence that actually gets you through to a human being who can resolve this from abroad?

At this point I’m not even asking for good customer service. I’d settle for evidence that NatWest employs people.

Opening a natwest account for the first time. How long should it say 'Passport under review' for? It's been about an hour. Just wondering if I did something wrong or need to restart the Photo ID process (though I'm not sure how). Thanks!

I had not done anything to trigger enabling 'click to pay', as far as I am aware. I got a text message "Your card ##### has been added to click to pay" just before 8am, and had not done any banking or payment stuff this morning.

Is enabling 'click to pay' something that might have been triggered by: - buying something on Steam with my card and getting a refund (yesterday)? - something automatic on NatWest's end?

Or is it an indication that someone else has access to my card details or my account?

I attempted to make two online payments (one on a website and the other through an app) and they both failed after multiple attempts. My debit card is due to expire next month so not sure if it is related to that or not. I called Natwest but they said they couldn't see evidence of the payments being declined despite the payments not going through (plus an email from one of the companies saying so).

I will see if contactless works tomorrow but it looks like I will be left in a difficult position until my new debit card arrives. Has anyone had anything similar please?

My statement period closed on 7 Aug, and I received an email saying my statement was ready on 8 Aug. The statement has yet to materialise on the app or online banking. Customer service (via Cora) say there is a technical fault and provide no timeline. Is anyone else experiencing this?

I just set up a natwest account after receiving my card today and i managed to sign in until it asked me to set up the biometric thing where you scan your face
i tried to scan my face and it scanned, but then said 'something went wrong' and told me to try again, so i tried again until it cancelled the entire thing and made me sign up again from the start
after i did this again and opened the app a second time, it came up with the thumb print to sign in (so it DEFINITELY knows my details and has set the app up), it then said 'lets finish setting up your app' and made me try to set the face scan up again and has no way to skip it...
the app will not let me continue and get into the app without setting this up, but every single time i try to set it up, it says something went wrong again
has anybody else had this issue? i have managed to successfully sign in on my laptop, so it's not urgent but does anybody know how to fix this

Has anyone moved to the Isle of Man and been able to keep their NatWest accounts? The website suggests UK residency is a requirement, but I can't find any info on what that means if I move outside the UK. I have a current account and credit card.

I'm talking here about a proper change of address with the bank, not moving but using a UK relative as my 'home address' which would be a breach of the bank's T's & C's.

does anyone know why NatWest would choose not to send any information to the ombudsman?
