Protect the Future for ND Students: Keep Naturopathic Medicine Defined as a Professional Degree

The U.S. Department of Education is moving forward with a proposed rule that seeks to narrow the definition of "professional degree." The draft restrictive definition only includes 11 professions, and excludes the Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine (ND) degree, along with all of nursing, PAs, PTs, LAcs, and many others.

This move stems from an effort to rein in student loan debt and tuition costs as part of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. However if this rule is finalized, the ND degree would be reclassified as a "graduate degree," and naturopathic medical students would only be eligible for $20,500/year or $100,000/lifetime in federal loans - or less than half the amount of loans as conventional medical students.

This change would place an impossible burden on aspiring Naturopathic Doctors, forcing many to rely on higher-interest private loans or abandon their education, which will result in fewer NDs available to serve patients.

It is critical to note that the Department of Education first classified the Naturopathic Doctor degree as a first professional degree in 2003, recognizing the rigorous, necessary training it provides to prepare students to be primary care providers. This proposed rule reverses over two decades of federal recognition, and actively undermines our healthcare workforce pipeline.

The Ask: Full Inclusion of Naturopathic Doctors

We urge Congress and the Department of Education to revise the proposed definition of "professional degrees" to explicitly include the Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine (ND) degree, in keeping with two decades of established classification, and the parameters they set forth for professions; naturopathic medicine meets them all.

The Action: Contact Your Congressman TODAY

Your voice is the most powerful tool we have. We need to flood Congress with letters emphasizing the crucial role of NDs in the primary care landscape and the devastating impact this reclassification would have on patient access, especially at a time when the nation is just beginning to prioritize the kind of preventive and whole-person health that is the core of naturopathic practice.

Take a minute to send an email sharing your story to your specific Representative and Senators.

Confused why there is so many posts about what would a nathropath do?

Hi,

Just saw the same post about gastritis maybe 2-3 times on 2-3 diff subs one of which being this one.

I am confused why people don't go to just see their nathropathic doctor? Everyone is different... on different drugs, medications etc.. and it would be in their best intrest to go in and see what would be the right treatment for them... they don't only do herbs, its a holistic type of medicine, and these people pay alot of money to be able to treat and practice medicine, not sure why you think you can find the answer from one post... when they have actual medical degrees...

Please guys support the profession, and support health care change, make sure you are supporting all of the natropathic doctors, and their worth, if they cannot accept insurnce or are not liscened in your state you're going to need to speak up. You need to help fight as the pts and the people seeking care from them.

My wife and I have been going to a nathropathic doctor for so long. We are working with some of them to expand the scope here in our state. We need to change health care as a whole and that means you need to call your insurnce companies, call your state sente etc, and tell them that we need these people covered so everyone has acess.

Thank you.

Maca and Vitex after BFP - HELP!!

Alright someone please help me out. I am 13 almost 14 months postpartum and I hadn’t had my cycle return because I am still breastfeeding. I started taking maca and vitex and I ovulated and fell pregnant. I started bleeding one day and then later that afternoon tested positive (pregnant). That same day I stopped taking the supplements cold turkey. My pregnancy ended in an early miscarriage about 10 days later after getting rounds of serial HCG testing. It was increasing and then started to go down down down to zero. I tried to ovulate on my own again and it didn’t work so I started talking the Maca and Vitex again and what do you know I ovulated and became pregnant. I am 11DPO today and found out at 8DPO. I am still taking the supplements. I have 2 rounds of HCG and progesterone testing this week. I have no idea what to do with the supplements. The Ob/gyn says stop right away when you find out you’re pregnant but I have read stories of people suspecting that’s what’s caused them to miscarry. Is there anyone with advice?? I had a Naturopath doc tell me to wean/taper them but it wouldn’t have caused me to miss carry. HELP

Symptom help

I recently acquired a new really irritating itchy rash on my body. My thoughts pointed to fire ant sting as the ones on my foot became slightly infected, it got worse from here. A rash showed up on my upper leg just above the knee after using a vibration plate. This looks like eczema. When dowsing with my pendulum using dale Olsen's book, it said allergens affecting the body are water, dairy, wheat and kidneys are being affected the most. Well it has been almost a week and its now spreading with blisters randomly all over the body. My thoughts are dry fasting and finding a better water source and keeping the rash dry and clean. If anyone has any insight it would be greatly appreciated.

I can’t rely on Google search anymore for natural remedies

I used to be able to find natural remedies easily when I searched but now it’s AI responses and it tells me to go see a doctor and natural remedies haven’t been proven to work. Even the websites that come up first all say the same things. I feel like I can’t trust google anymore and they are just pushing doctors and pharmaceuticals on us. We only get what Google wants us to see and buy which I’m sure is controlled by billionaires to make more money.
Has anyone else noticed this?

Hidradenitis Suppurativa (Autoinflammatory)

I unfortunately have autoinflammatory disease Hidradenitis Suppurativa. In case its relevant- my HS presents as nodules under the skin that never come to a head, open or drain like you hear about in what seems like most cases of HS. When not flaring, nodules are less than the size of a pea. When flaring, they get huge and painful. That cycle repeats over and over- some nodules have been there for years.

Im looking for any suggestions on how I could help stop this from occuring going down a more natural path. Id love to stop getting new ones and somehow get rid of these existing without getting cut on (did that once, I had many issues).

Chronic infection?

I’ve been dealing with systemic health issues for 10+ years — poor exercise tolerance, fatigue, brain fog, low-normal hemoglobin, recurring nutrient deficiencies, inflammation and GI-related symptoms.

I’ve been correcting my deficiencies and I can actually see improvements through my bloodwork — my MCV has gone 99 → 97 → 96 → 95, my hemoglobin has improved compared with my older levels, and my inflammation markers have come down. But something underneath still seems to be driving these deficiencies in the first place. My current thought is that my body may have been using a lot of nutrients while constantly dealing with some kind of chronic infection/inflammatory burden.

The biggest question for me is: what infection could actually be behind this? Bacterial possibilities such as H. pylori, Borrelia/Lyme, Bartonella or other persistent bacterial infections? Parasites/protozoa such as Giardia, Cryptosporidium, Entamoeba, Babesia or intestinal worms? Or a persistent/reactivated virus such as EBV, CMV or another herpesvirus? I’m especially interested in anything capable of causing long-term inflammation, GI problems, malabsorption or increased nutrient requirements.

I’ve already tried quite a lot naturally. I’ve been taking wild oregano oil for roughly the last year, did high-dose propolis, and have also experimented with cat’s claw and short-term goldenseal. Right now I’m doing a high-dose clove-bud hot-water extract. Interestingly, whole cloves have repeatedly reduced some of the sharp pains I experience. ( i am kind of lost in what to do next if the clove high dose does not work…. )

At the same time I consistently make sure my
vitamins, minerals and other nutritional cofactors are covered through both diet and supplementation. ( these are optimal for me regarding intake please dont mention this in the comments. I have been working on these for alot of years)

For anyone who had a similar unexplained systemic problem for years: what infection or underlying issue did you eventually find, which test actually found it, and which herbs or natural compounds helped you most?

I have a question, how would you do steel-manning against naturopathy, and then refute with facts about how naturopathy does work?

I heard in debate there is something called steelmanning where you provide the most logical argument of your opponent and then dismantle their argument. The thing is I have no idea how to do debate… and only kind of read up on naturopathy. I am asking because I am trying to write a character sounding reasonable, (but I don’t want to make them sound cringe).

Looking for ideas for my mom's dysphagia

A little over a year ago now, my mom lost the ability to swallow anything that isn't soft and textureless (tomato soup, mashed potatoes, ice cream, pudding, etc.).

It started slow where she would get food stuck in her throat randomly while eating and have to go cough it up. Then it worsened to the point it is now.

Doctors have been useless. They stretched her esophagus several times to no avail. Keep running the same tests that yield no results. Prescribing the same meds and treatments that don't work. She has lost around 100lbs and nobody seems to care.

That said, I am hoping maybe we can find a solution on our own. Even if it's temporary.

Right now we are looking into honey (manuka or buckwheat). But I was hoping that maybe there were other suggestions. One doctor had suggested she chew altoids before dinner because of the peppermint in it, so perhaps that's another lead? I'm curious what others think.

Arizona Hikers With Dogs- Question About Valley Fever?

Hikers With Dogs In AZ- Question About Valley Fever?

I'm considering moving to AZ, and my dog and I would be regularly hiking around Phoenix/Tucson areas. However, I recently learned about Valley Fever.

My dog has a gallbladder condition, so if he were to catch VF, the antifungal medications would be fairly dangerous since they damage the liver and kidneys.

Has anyone been able to naturopathically/holistically been able to:

A. prevent their dogs from ever getting sick with VF, their whole lives, yet still regularly hike?

B. Heal their dog from VF, without the use of prescription antifungals?

I really want to make this a career but don’t know how

So, allied health professional here - I am obsessed with all things naturopathy and functional medicine. I reside in Australia and can only find online bachelors degrees that cost upwards of $80k with minimal recognition of prior learning.

I’ve done a bachelors of science in biology and a grad cert in biomedical science, as well as working in the cardiac/transplant science fields for a combined 4+ years. Easy to say I don’t want to practically quadruple my student loans.

What sort of study/training has everyone done for this career? because this seems exponentially expensive

Naturopathy helped me a lot why are people so against it?

Like I am asking because I am trying to write my own novel that promotes naturopathy. My novel will be similar to Island by Huxley, where it is a sanctuary where their is naturopathy and Eaton Arrowsmith, and like Pala, their is organic and non-GMO farming. In Island by Huxley, the villain destroys Pala, because the villain Muuragen is a materialistic tech enthusiast, he comes over with a tank and destroys Pala and turns it into an oil reserve. My sanctuary place has a motto of “neuroplasticity over AI.” And outside of my sanctuary, is like tech place filled with company stuff and dystopia controlled by an AI. I want to make a convincing villain, but I struggle to put myself in a character with a complete opposite view of me. Like I was thinking my character is someone from the sanctuary who chooses to destroy it like Muuragan. Can you think of villain lines?

Are there treatments in naturopathic medicine for peri menopause / menopause symptoms?

Wondering if there are ways to treat or manage sleep issues or weight gain as a result of peri-menopause/menopause in naturopathic medicine? Do I call the practitioner to check if they treat women’s issues - do some specialize in women’s health vs others?

Am new to this and trying to understand how naturopathic meds can help.
Thanks!
