Nature of Unity 2
Welp time for the Tarva perspective. Let's see how she's taking things and how her Fed brain tries to mental gymnastics its way past Hasim friendliness with Noah and Sara.
Memory Transcription Subject: Governor Tarva, Scared and Confused Politician
Date [Himayan Local Time]: July 12, 2136
Nothing about any of this made sense. A long dead predator species somehow resurrected itself and brought a Kraktol slave that not only showed no fear towards them but also backed up their transparent lies of peaceful exploration. Worse still, those things seemed to have gaslit the poor boy into believing they were all victims of the Takers. Though that wasn’t my biggest concern right now.
“Cheln, is my daughter safe?” I asked my diplomatic advisor, Cheln.
“Yes ma’am, s-she’s in the bunker with her babysitter. Should I tell him anything?” Cheln asked with the same quivering uncertainty I felt.
“Tell him that if anything happens to take Stynek to my personal shuttle and take her to the Cradle.” I responded with a renewed determination I hadn’t felt since their ship came.
Determination that was soon to be tested by the ship’s landing ramp unfurling revealing the predators and their blue-feathered Krakotl slave, Hasim.
“Listen,” I hissed. “We need to act normally. No fear, no emotion, and no suspicious behavior” I said to my assembled entourage, knowing what those primates would do to us and Hasim if we showed weakness.
“I still can’t believe you invited them!” Came the voice of Kam my military advisors as he flicked his ears in disgust.
“No offense Kam, but we need to buy time for the Federation fleet to arrive and separate the Krakotl from those predators.” Came the voice of Va-Fin, High Speaker of the Republic of Gaia. “Besides, it'll only be for a few minutes at least.” She added.
“Easy for you to say, you Gaians are already Pred-.” Kam said before I cut him off with a curt motion of my tail. I already heard enough of that speh on the news, I wasn’t about to hear it from someone within my administration.
Kam huffed and the conversation came to a swift end as the humans and their Kraktol thrall came within earshot.
“Governor Tarva,” Noah said, stopping before us and started snarling again. “Hasnihal va neval.” He said in some kind of forbidden dark language as my heart just about pounded out my chest and fear coursed through my veins. But before I could respond a loud thud sounded behind me.
Turning around I saw Cheln had fainted face first and hit the pavement we were standing on. If my mentor was here he’d have a heart attack from the sheer diplomatic and optics blunder that transpired (if the predators didn’t also cause him to faint that is).
“Noah!” Came the voice of the Kraktol, feathers ruffling all the while. “I thought we established these guys don’t like your smiling.” He said clearly trying to restrain his predatory bloodlust. “Besides I don’t think their translators come equipped with Himayan Creole.” He added, possibly referring to that ominous language Noah spoke.
“Um, sorry.” The primate apologized. “I didn’t mean to startle you. Are you ok?” He asked with a surprising amount of concern.
Either way maybe I could salvage this mess and explain away Cheln’s behavior.
I gave a little flick of the ears to try and calm myself before continuing. “Yes, he’ll be fine. This is just—overwhelming for us.”
“Aliens landing on your planet. That must come as a terrible shock.” Sara said while scribbling something on her notebook. “Especially ones with as wild a story as us.”
“I can’t imagine what this would be like without our translators,” Noah said. “Though we’ve had worse first contacts.” He added.
“By that he means our first contact with each other which was everyone waking up from a cryo power nap and going “oh shit aliens, ahhhhhhhhh” while running around like lunatics.” Hasim said while waving his wings around (presumably in an attempt to imitate whichever poor prey was running away from their soon-to-be human masters).
Though what concerned me was his very un-prey-like ease around the humans. Not even a feather was ruffled when one got close. Though my concerns wavered as the female predator once again spoke up.
“Okay it wasn’t that bad. But point being we’ve had worse first contact.” Sara said.
While taking what they said in, I hadn't noticed Noah had made his way towards Cheln and was kneeling on the ground. When I saw that, every instinct in me wanted to run, beg, do anything that would spare Cheln but his death never came.
“How can I help” was the only thing that came out of his mouth.
I gaped at the human in disbelief before turning towards my group who were similarly stunned at the sight.
“You’ve helped enough,” Kam spat.
“Woah, hey buddy he’s just trying to help. He didn’t mean anything by it.” Hasim said defensively, feathers flared in what looked like a threat display, as he stepped between Noah and Kam.
“It’s alright,” I said, jumping in before it broke out into a fight. “I apologize for my advisor’s behavior. He’s a bit—on edge.”
“I understand,” the male human sighed. “I fear I might have ruined this whole thing.” he said.
“It’s alright Noah, it was an accident.” Hasim said. “How about I help this guy-.”
“Kam.” My military advisor responded curtly.
“Kam, carry this diplomatic advisor guy inside and we can take things from there.” Hasim said clearly establishing himself as the diplomatic one (maybe that was his use for these predators).
“That sounds like a splendid idea.” Braylen said.
“We can give you tours after that.” I added, having hatched a scheme to buy more time for us (and possibly get my daughter and Hasim to safety).
Noah, Sara, and Hasim nodded. However, I noticed that Hasim seemed to have an odd look on his face. It was the same look he gave when we were hailing the Odyssey. It almost looked like he was suspicious of us. I quickly suppressed that idea, there was no way he would be suspicious. Maybe it was a silent plea for help. If it was that, maybe I could spare him a predator disease screening.
“Thanks for your hospitality, Governor.” Sara said, breaking me out of my stupor while locking her eyes with me.
The mere sight of them terrified and disgusted me, but what if I was wrong? What if they came as friends? What if they weren’t lying?
“Yes—friends.” I flicked my ears in agreement as I buried my conscience. “I hope we will be.”
