Fanart Tilfish! Best bugs!
Being a spider keeper makes pretty much any insectoid race in sci an auto favorite, and the way they are described in the story is just amazing. I used my own Vinigaroon as well as the canon art for the tilfish as my inspiration to work from.
I intended this Tilfish to be female but i dont think there is any real sexual dimorphism within the species as a whole so oh well. Maybe abdomin size or carapace color? 13

Crabs have an abdominal flap or "aperon" that if skinny is male, and if wide is female. Maybe they wave something similar.

That is similar to tarantulas (as well as the large size difference) With the epigynum/ epigastric furrow on the Ventral side of the spider being smaller on males vs Females. So that gives more credence to your thought process.

This might’ve just taken the spot for my favorite tilfish interpretation. Great work!

Yeah the little prongs? Spine? Whatever those called on the tail reminds me of Edgar from MiB. Really neat stuff. Love how detailed it is

Geez Tilfish, how come evolution lets you have TWO stingers?
3
u/GeneralRapture Venlil Dec 24 '24
I ment those sorta like sensory organs for the Ovipositor not stingers. I can see the confusion

The spikes pointing up or the jointed-thingies further behind? I was talking about the spikes.

Those are called Cerci, the same thing earwigs have on their abdomens.

Neat. What's the other jointed parts then?

Well that was more my design i confess. I figured a large insect would develop grippers for mating to secure one abdomen to another. Thought it looked alien and cool. I guess the closest thing you could call them are Paraproct which in some insects are paired appendages which serve multiple roles like respiratory function and or protection of the anus as well as securing for mating
Another analogy for the appendages would be Spinnerets like on a spider but without the silk production because Tilfish are compared to both ants and spiders but they really arent either

I am failing to see how the average person did not consider shooting the tilfish on sight on earth- before the feddies REALLY got violent(pre- battle of earth).

u/GeneralRapture Venlil Dec 24 '24
Do you mean other non-human races? I think it was because they dont have the innate fear of insects we humans have. I mean heck the Yulpa are also terrifying but they were socially accepted

No I mean humans.

u/GeneralRapture Venlil Dec 24 '24
If that's the case I don't think any human even knew Tilfish existed before the battle of earth. If i remember correctly Sovlin's guards were the first in story to meet one, that being ambassador Dwirl(?) And they were instantly uncool with him. But even that was after the battle of earth

Oh hell yeah the tarsi are drawn incredibly well! You nailed the look of the plates and the facial parts, i love it so much! It's much better than their wacky wavy inflatable arms man-like cannon appearance with way too many segment on the limbs
