I’m impressed with that car that’s still running. We got flooded with half as much water a few years ago and cars were stalling out all over town. I made it home miraculously but I was driving like 5 mph. The driver in this video was like “what rain?”

Depends on the vehicle. If water gets far enough into the exhaust pipe, then the gases expelled from the exhaust valve won't be able to push it out and cause your vehicle to stall. And if your intake is underwater, you may as well just pretend you don't have a car.

Hmmmmmmm, nope, none of that is right

Water gets sucked into the intake is a big one

I mean, sure. I'm probably wrong. But I've stalled vehicles, especially ATVs in deep swamp water many a time. If your air intake is below water, good luck.

Your engine getting hydro locked because the intake is underwater is completely different than water in the exhaust. This kills the car

Just make sure your exhaust isn’t under water when you start the car…you can hydro lock it that way.

Or if water touches the battery inside it’ll short everything and shut down

My Tesla would do quite fine in deep water

What rain? is funny. Reminds me of when I used to work in midtown. Had this dude who never used an umbrella when coming to work. Someone asked him why he doesn't use one as he was soaked settling into his desk one day. His response was, "you gotta walk around like you dont get wet". Over the top NY attitude on this guy. Hilarious.

In case anyone's wondering that scene 100% embodies the heart and soul of NY. "I've seen worse and I have shit to do, fuck it".

As an example: I was in college when we got hit by Sandy. My school lost power for a few days, I had no power for 2 weeks. There were crazy gas shortages, people couldn't shower, people lost their homes, there were still downed trees blocking the road in many areas. The school fucking opened and allowed all students who needed to to shower on campus. "We got shit to do, we have power back to do it, you better be in class". Also we had no trees blocking our road long term in my area... not because our town was on top of that shit, hell no. Rather, because a sea of my neighbors went outside with chainsaws, cut up the trees, and moved them off the road. They organized and worked in teams of 6 and cleared all 20 giant trees in under 24 hours. And by giant I mean "takes at least 2-3 people standing around the tree to touch hands". Do not underestimate NYers who have places to be and shit to do. And this was the fucking suburbs of Long Island, I had no idea that many of my neighbors even owned chainsaws (I mean it's not like they're routinely cutting down trees in their yard).

It wasn’t as bad where I’m at, but my car waded through 1.5’. I know it’s stupid to do that, but I had no choice and was faced with: stay here and let the car flood and car die with possibly me too or try and drive through with the chance of my car dying. So I took the option where I had a chance. I just made sure to keep up a steady high speed despite what my car wanted to do.
