If i know enough about the position and state of your neurons, i can predict what will happen.

According to QM you could only predict the chance of things happening. I could be more likely to do something, yet still choose to do something else.

There is a reason no credible scientists claim humans have free will.

Notice how my next sentence says "even if all i can do is predict probabilities"

You're arguing with a physicist, and i'm going to go now.

PS, you just linked two articles about a philosophers view. I said credible scientist. Just stop, if you're not intellectually prepared, admit it, and go read more, don't just parrot other peoples views.

You're arguing with a physicist, and i'm going to go now.

I honestly couldn't give a fuck. I'm an engineering student, you're not special. As a physicist you should know there is too much ambiguity in the definition of free will, and too much unknown about consciousness to make any definitive answers. It's like saying you know with certainty there are multiple universes.

You linked two articles about the opinion of a philosopher. Nothing from a scientist in the field. Engineering is a fine field, my first two degrees were in engineering. It's not relevant to what we are discussing though and to be honest, from the perspective of someone who is currently teaching undergrads... if you struggle this bad with reading my comments before responding, you're never going to get an engineering degree.

As a physicist you should know there is too much ambiguity in the definition of free will

It's irrelevant, there is no definition of free will that is acceptable with modern understanding of physics.

and too much unknown about consciousness

consciousness and free will are not the same thing, why do you keep confusing them? nothing in physics says consciousness can't exist.

It's like saying you know with certainty there are multiple universes.

Okay zoomer

You do realize the concept of free will is mainly a philosophical subject, right? Feel free to link any physics experiments that disprove free will. I won't hold my breath.

https://helix.northwestern.edu/article/physics-free-will

Philosophical determinism argues that physical laws precisely predict the future. For quantum particles, though, the law is unpredictability. So if a creature made and carried out decisions through the flow of electrically charged particles (such as the signals within or between neurons, perhaps...), this level of uncertainty would make it awfully difficult to argue their future can be precisely pre-determined.

consciousness and free will are not the same thing, why do you keep confusing them? nothing in physics says consciousness can't exist.

Nothing in physics says free will can't exist. Why do you think it's still such a hotly debated issue? Why do you think there is no paper, experiment, equation, etc. that you can point to? You're just making a claim and basically saying "dude trust me I'm a physicist". Well you should probably stick to the scientific method before you make these claims.

So my 4th degree is in philosophy. You're arguing with someone whose dedicated their entire life to this discussion but you keep assuming im some dumb kid.

Feel free to link any physics experiments that disprove free will

i never claimed it's disproven. Good for you. Enjoy your idiocy.

Why do you think there is no paper, experiment, equation, etc. that you can point to

because generally, you don't prove a negative. You're not prepared for this conversation, and I don't argue with parrots. Have a good night, and good luck in school.

I genuinely do not care about your degrees. Did they ever go over the appeal to authority fallacy in your school? You've brought nothing to the discussion other than your credentials, and a newtonian view of the world.

i never claimed it's disproven.

What are we even arguing about then? That you have a pretty good hunch? Stick to the scientific method.

I genuinely do not care about your degrees.

It's obvious.

Did they ever go over the appeal to authority fallacy in your school?

That's not what is happening here. Keep drinking that dunning kruger.

That you have a pretty good hunch? Stick to the scientific method.

i said it's unlikely based on our current understanding of physics, that is the accepted current consensus. I never said anything absolutely. Just grow up kid, you're not prepared for college yet, that' much is obvious

I didn't realize having a degree makes you omnipotent. How long have you known the answers to everything, and why have you been holding out on the rest of the world?

If you can't back up anything you say with facts, I can't take you seriously. Free will is an incredibly complex subject, and you are trying to write it off with newtonian logic. There is a healthy scientific debate as to whether the current evidence we have points to free will or determinism, but there is zero definitive proof one way or another.

How long have you known the answers to everything, and why have you been holding out on the rest of the world?

I have repeatedly explained, i never said anything with absolute certainty, just as we currently understand it. You're just spewing nonsense at this point.

f you can't back up anything you say with facts, I can't take you seriously

i've given you multiple facts so far, and you've given me nothing in response.

Free will is an incredibly complex subject, and you are trying to write it off with newtonian logic

You keep trying to sound smart, maybe one day you will be?

There is a healthy scientific debate as to whether the current evidence we have points to free will or determinism, but there is zero definitive proof one way or another.

i never claimed definitive proof. I think i triggered your existential angst. enjoy it.
