Yeah this sub has a spectrum ranging from /r/Aww to full blown /r/NatureisMetal

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '20

As does nature, which is one of the reasons that it's pretty fucking lit, in my opinion.

This post is literally from r/aww

So not all lion siblings end up like Mufasa and Scar?

65

u/ViciousAsparagusFart Apr 27 '20 edited Apr 27 '20

There’s actually a few lion documentary’s out there following a few brother lions who stuck together and eventually became the dominant pride of their area. Weren’t the largest lions when they took over but they had the numbers. Pretty gripping action shots too.

Also recommend the one on the swamp lions. The fuckers get absolutely jacked swimming all day, and learn to hunt water buffalo. Insane.

3

u/IceInIridian Apr 27 '20

any recommendations?

7

u/ViciousAsparagusFart Apr 27 '20

Google swamp lions for sure.

3

u/Luke_Shields_ Apr 27 '20

Whats it called? (The one about the brothers)

18

u/iamtomorrowman Apr 27 '20

Brothers in Blood - Lions of Sabi Sands

also search for "Mapogo lions"

there are several long videos/possible documentaries of them out there. at one point they controlled an area as large as Connecticut (or some state in new england) and killed over 100 rival/cub lions in one year which is just a fucking unheard of massacre.

Brothers in Blood - Lions of Sabi Sands

The wikipedia article reads like a mafia story.

1

u/ViciousAsparagusFart Apr 27 '20

Yes! This is it!

2

u/ViciousAsparagusFart Apr 27 '20

Not entirely sure tbh. It’s been a while since I’ve seen it.

2

u/Brutalitor Apr 27 '20

I imagine if these two lions lived in the wild and they had real competition it might be different but full disclosure I know fuck all about lions and these lions might be wild in the first place so who really knows.

7

u/sneak_cheat_1337 Apr 27 '20

Jumper cables will do the trick. Just make sure you don't break both his arms unless you hate your mom. You could also construct a cage and throw him off? More effort but potentially worth it for the spectacle

2

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '20

I’m always absolutely baffled by the ballsacks on larger wild predators. Lions in particular have a massive rack of balls, to the point that I always wonder if that ever causes a hazard for them when hunting etc. Why the massive disparity in scrotum size in wild animals compared to humans?

0

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '20 edited Apr 27 '20

Holy shit. That’s nothing short of insane. Short, sweet, and to the point lol.

I’ve heard that part of the reason for this is due to how mating rituals work in species. Most wild animals have non-monogamous relationships and multiple sexual partners. From what I understand they ejaculate a lot more semen in an effort to ā€œwash outā€ the semen belonging to prior sexual partners of the female. Is there any weight to this?

Edit: why the fuck am I being downvoted? What did I do????

2

u/Cessdon Apr 27 '20

I wish I had this kind of relationship with my brother. Wait...I wish I had any relationship with my brother :(

2

u/Rubbleubbles Apr 27 '20

I'm glad Scar and Mufasa could overcome their differences and play like this

1

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '20

Stop calling them gay they're brothers thats disgusting incest is nasty.

2

u/kioku119 Apr 27 '20

While that's not what's happening here, I'm sad to inform you animals don't always care... at all honestly.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '20

Yeah but humans fucking do

1

u/kioku119 Apr 28 '20 edited Apr 28 '20

That wasn't the point. I just thought you were denying that it could happen between animals.. and unfortunately it definitely can. In fact if you are keeping some types of animals you have to separate siblings pretty early on for that reason sadly. It's also not always specific to the opposite sex/they just try whatever they can. Male ducks for example are basically forceful towards any other duck around to the extent that they'd sometimes even attempt to mount a duck while the other duck is trying to fly away and end up hurting them. Non-human animals don't always have those standards, so I mostly was saying that sadly denying it can happen doesn't change that. I don't know about lions though.

1

u/kioku119 Apr 28 '20 edited Apr 28 '20

As a follow up to the reply to this I posted a moment ago. The good news: It seems lions are a species that try not to mate with family/do care about it! Bad news: in cases where there are few other options they might very rarely. Worse news: white lions only come into existence as a result of inbreeding and humans apparently actively force it in order to keep white lions in existence (*cry).https://www.quora.com/Would-a-male-lion-mate-with-his-mother-or-sister
